If you like Shania Twain in this photo, check her out on stage at the CMAs … the rise in Gold is already happening in India; it’s coming here. How to tell? You can’t find the physical stuff anywhere … Her Majesty’s warships take down pirates! … major doom and gloom, you’ve been warned: Food riots and a revolution in America by 2012. If he didn’t have a good track record, we might ignore it … and now the counter: Paranoia is on the rise … sure, we’re in trouble, but just be happy you’re not in the UK … or California, and not just because of the fires …
A bit more on this later, but the Miami Hurricanes beat Virginia Tech last night in a mild surprise. (Miami Herald)

“Paranoia on the rise”
Cocaine is one helluva drug
November 14th, 2008 at 8:36 AM
She used to be smokin – still looking pretty good, although not in that pic.
November 14th, 2008 at 8:38 AM
I would take Shania right now. Mutt fucked up.
November 14th, 2008 at 8:39 AM
What is it, 1998?
Come on, we can do better than Shania on a Friday!
November 14th, 2008 at 8:39 AM
Shania’s face looks busted in the Roundup pic; looks much better in the CMA pics.
November 14th, 2008 at 8:42 AM
After yesterdays roundup Shania is amazing.
November 14th, 2008 at 8:44 AM
nothing better than predicting doom and gloom with no positive solution in your message. Fuck people who take the easy route. Why doesn’t he put some of his monumental effort into producing a solution.
November 14th, 2008 at 8:45 AM
the guy ivanovic is dating is not a tennis instructor, he is #15 in the world right now on the ATP tour.
November 14th, 2008 at 8:46 AM
A bit more on this later, but the Miami Hurricanes beat Virginia Tech last night in a mild surprise
mild surprise huh? Great game last night. Jim Kelly, Gino, Edge, Cortez, Jimmy and the boys were all in attendance last night. Erin Andrews fine ass looked amazing last night.
JJ Redick will never get his career on track in Orlando
having a bad attitude gets you nowhere
November 14th, 2008 at 8:47 AM
Nice job on Shania.
November 14th, 2008 at 8:49 AM
I remember being highly disappointed when Shania appeared in Maxim circa 5-6 years ago and basically didn’t reveal any skin at all.
November 14th, 2008 at 8:51 AM
JT, you expect Raj to read an article?
/Bernard Berrian
November 14th, 2008 at 8:52 AM
If they don’t pick Darko they dont have this problem.
November 14th, 2008 at 8:53 AM
Yup, Bosh probably would’ve been the best pick for them.
Of course they’ll probably end up with Bosh in 2 years anyway.
November 14th, 2008 at 8:54 AM
RE the Chauncey trade: We may have to move RIP as well… Don’t get me wrong, I like both player sna hope they work out well wherever they end up, but RIP is playing the Michael Scott “you sent away my girlfriend” routine and it isn’t working.
November 14th, 2008 at 8:57 AM
TBL, what’s up with linking to that Gold article? I thought you were better than that. Everyone knows that when inflation and paranoia is high (like the late ’70s, early 80’s, and today) gold prices jump. Then they plummet after everything settles down. Commodities are the ultimate rollercoaster ride.
November 14th, 2008 at 8:59 AM
Maggs-I don’t think they can get enough in return for Hamilton. He’s a one trick pony with his mid range game. but he does do that one trick better than most.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:00 AM
Can we get some pics of EA last night?
November 14th, 2008 at 9:01 AM
He scores 20 points a game…. we can get something for that I am sure. Right now, he isn’t worth keeping around. I thought we were going to blow this team up over the summer anyway so I am prepared to see most of them go…
November 14th, 2008 at 9:06 AM
gonna be hard to find a suitor that wants to feature him in their offense.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:07 AM
Shania still is smokin’ hot. She is the definition of cougar. +100
Rip’s contract is manageable, and if a team needs a shooting guard to get over the top, he could be moved. Not likely right now, but let’s face it, Dumars has a thing for Iverson and Stuckey.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:08 AM
I disagree. He could go to a team who runs and guns. He is a burner. Knicks, Suns, GS… they could all be possible suitors. Hell send him to Denver as well? He has quit on us though and returned to his Wiz days of pissing everybody off.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:08 AM
Love Shania.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:09 AM
What do “food riots” look like? Are they gigantic food fights?
November 14th, 2008 at 9:10 AM
there’s no positive solution. the unwinding will be long and painful. probably moreso than the exciting run-up where everyone made a lot of money.
my guess? The US will decide that it is so in debt that when Japan comes calling the US will just default on its debt and ask for a “do over.”
random prediction, like the dow being under 10k back JANUARY … Gold will trip its current price of 700 by late 2009/early 2010. somebody bookmark this and call me on it.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:10 AM
Since we are on basketball, I was going to wait for Ballin’ but did anyone see Joe Crawford toss Kenyon Martin last night? That was INSANE! Joe Crawford is a piece of shit. He needs anger management.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:11 AM
i would guess people following you home from the grocery store and trying to jack you for your food. because prices are so high and so many people will be out of jobs that nobody can afford them.
this is a time when owning a weapon would make sense.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:11 AM
@maggs whats rip’s contract like? i know he just signed an extension.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:11 AM
didn’t need to anymore after that. if there was one, somebody would have already came up with it.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:12 AM
3 yr $12 million per maybe? I am not sure exactly.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:12 AM
Maggs, agree with you on that toss. Crawford is a dick.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:13 AM
Something like that, Maggs – 3/$34?
I thought that Joey Crawford move was wayyyy premature. wtf.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:14 AM
Good track record? What a joke.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:14 AM
It is 3yr at $34 MIL. I was pretty close!
November 14th, 2008 at 9:14 AM
TBL, have you gotten your black leather outfit and souped up dune buggy yet? Good God man, you’re ridiculous.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:15 AM
I thought Obama was going to save America? Now there’s going to be a revolution and riots?
Don’t worry though, Barack has the “The Bush Administration left us in so much trouble, there was nothing we could do” card to fall back on, and his lapdogs in the media will buy it all hook, line and sinker.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:16 AM
+1 St Bear. Laughing out loud as I type this.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:16 AM
According to Steve Serby of the NY Post (on the Jets game), it was:
Overtime.
Favretime.
Worth Waiting 4.
Get it, he wrote “4″ instead of “for” – that’s Brett’s number!
November 14th, 2008 at 9:17 AM
Crazy, I walked in to work this morning and two people were talking about the idea of getting a gun because people might get desperate over the next few years.
In other news, I had my first garbage plate last night that featured beans instead of mac salad. Amazing, perhaps a watershed moment in my life.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:18 AM
@tbl – so because there is no positive solution the entire nation is undoubtely going to turn into an “undeveloped nation?” I don’t think, under any circumstance, that the entire nation is going to go from where we have advanced to an “undeveloped nation.” There may be unprecedented poverty and homelessness, but we are also a nation built on banding together and fighting through adversity for a better way of life. I don’t mind people send out warnings about how bad our economy is, or how the powerful of falling. But the presentation and placement is key to whether or not it comes across as a scare tactic or a warning. If you are going to broadcast something like that to millions of viewers you better come with a solution or advice on what can be done to lessen the damage.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:19 AM
The thing about recessions is they are always actually specified (starts and stops) on about a 6 month delay. So when we try to have counter acting policy it usually only catches up with the recession when the economy is already setting itself right again, and that just increases the severity of the next one. Rather than helping the recession back to the average line the policies are actually pushing it further away because of impossible timing. Recessions will become worse and worse over time. The brite side is, they only happen once every 10-20 years.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:19 AM
yep…i agree with both of you. it was pretty ticky-tack.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:20 AM
Yeah, TBL — YOU ARE IRRESPONSIBLE!! ASSHOLE!
November 14th, 2008 at 9:20 AM
It is 3yr at $34 MIL. I was pretty close!
that’s not bad. i mean they’re probably better off until his contract is expiring and then they’ll be able to fleece some team who only wants him for this expiring deal. plus you get 2 years out of him and his production most likely won’t slip. only thing that might is his touches because of AI, but that’s just this year.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:20 AM
Spencer, wtf? can’t LeBron score 41 again?
November 14th, 2008 at 9:21 AM
+1 sportsdork. love me some garbage plates
November 14th, 2008 at 9:22 AM
sparty…na, he’s a big fat puss.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:22 AM
TBL-maybe shanoff will write a scathing piece about you.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:23 AM
I dont think this sentiment is accurate anymore. Think about it. We don’t pick up hitch hikers anymore, we are scared when we have an un-invited guest these days… maybe back in the old days we would have “banded together” and fought through this thing, but nowadays I think people are only out for themselves in troubled times and it is truly sad. Key factor for me that proves this? People talking about buying guns rather than canned food. I mean, think about that for a moment.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:23 AM
TBL: You shouldn’t speak for investment managers everywhere. It’s bullshit.
/Leitch’d
November 14th, 2008 at 9:23 AM
talked to my cousin…going to get my first one when i go to rochester for thanksgiving. very excited.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:23 AM
@sportsdork – I was speaking to the fact that this was actually put out by Fox. Fox is fantastic at propping its agenda with little regard to how its message is received or what the consequences could be.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:24 AM
Coming up on 60 Minutes, how the blog “The Big Lead” started a worldwide panic by posting a link to a opinion piece.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:27 AM
Couldnt agree more Maggs. In the immortal words of Tupac and MC Breed “I gotta get mine”
It is a shame, but listen to that song
November 14th, 2008 at 9:27 AM
@sandibalz — Oops. My bad. Well, I got to have 5 minutes of fun. Sorry for misreading your point.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:27 AM
@maggs – a hithchiker and un-invited guest is not what I was thinking of. I was thinking more along the lines of neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc. Helping out your neighbor is a bit different than picking up a guy on the highway to bring home for dinner. The type of fear you are speaking of has been around forever. What I was trying to get across was that the Nation as a whole is much more banded than people give it credit.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:37 AM
@sandi
I know what you were trying to say. I still don’t agree that the good old days of helping your neighboor are still around today. i never knew my neighboors growing up, I don’t say hello to people I don’t know when I walk down the street. THAT fear has not been there forever as you say. Back when the Great Depression happened people felt as though they should band together, now people don’t really give a shit about what happens to somebody else. Klosterman had a piece about this in GQ once. He went to a movie and a dude had a seizure… nobody helped him, nobody even ran for help. They all sat there stunned. I think the sentiment that people are willing to help other people for no incentive is growing old hat and I truly think that is very sad.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:44 AM
@maggs – I agree with you. I guess I am an optimist, thinking that in facing the worst, which we are not yet, that I might be right.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:45 AM
Maggs: I agree with you (surprise!) about people’s attitudes today. A quick story: My wife is an Attorney, and we were at a wedding reception with about 100 lawyers in the room. A guy starts choking on his rubber chicken, and nobody would help him. They didn’t want to get sued if the guy died. You could hear a pin drop in the room, except for the guy choking. I went over (I’m not a lawyer) and helped the guy, and people looked at me like I was crazy. I think people will “circle the wagons” around their own lives, and, in limited circumstances, extend a helping hand to those who need it. I wouldn’t expect widespread handouts except from the government.
November 14th, 2008 at 9:46 AM
@sandi
Hey man, I hope so too.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:14 AM
Still loving Shania. And now she’s a MILF too.
