Fun Night on the Tube
College Basketball, College Football, NBA, TV November 25th. 2008, 6:30pm
Terrific night to curl up in front the TV with some hot chocolate, the remote, and, for leisure reading, this article on impending food crisis. To everyone taking off tonight or tomorrow morning for the holiday, safe travels. To the rest of you, we’ll be on the scene early tomorrow as usual.
7 pm – No. 7 Notre Dame vs. No. 8 Texas in Maui. Bonus: Bilas and Raftery on the call. The Horns are 3-point favorites, but we’d take the Irish here.
7:30 pm – Cleveland at New York Knicks. ESPN is blowing this game out, including a TV interview with Stephen A. Even Colin Cowherd deigned to talk about the NBA today, and according to a reader who was listening, referenced our post on LeBron from yesterday.
7:30 pm – Western Michigan at No. 15 Ball State. Can the unbeaten Cardinals close out a perfect regular season? If so, will Jason Whitlock lobby for the Chiefs to draft Nate Davis?
7:45 pm – No. 18 Florida vs. Washington. Didn’t like what we saw last night from the Gators. Calathes needs major help, and Brockman could go for 20-20 against that meek frontline.
8 pm – Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, ABC. A taste.
8 pm – House, FOX. Dr. Cameron. Also, Hugh Laurie is awesome. [CRM's recommendation]
9:30 pm – No. 1 UNC vs. Oregon. The first question is whether or not Hansbrough will play; second is whether or not the Ducks cover 17.
10 pm – The Office. Back-to-back episodes on TBS. Michael’s office gets soiled, and then male bonding.
10 pm – No. 23 Kansas vs. Syracuse. It’s played in Kansas City, so slight advantage to the Jayhawks, but we’ll pick the ‘Cuse here. Onuaku vs. Aldrich should be an absolute slugfest inside. Flynn vs. Collins = Fun!

No Western Michigan vs Ball State?
November 25th, 2008 at 7:01 PM
The Cuse looked really good last night. Jury is out on KU. Udub is horrendous. Aldrich was a beast after he got past some early game jitters. Good night of hoops all around.
If so, will Jason Whitlock lobby for the Chiefs to draft Nate Davis?
He’s been doing that for a good chunk of this season. I’ll forward you a column next time I see him mentioned. If he looks good in Ball St.’s win, then that could be tomorrow.
November 25th, 2008 at 7:22 PM
Hate that the Gators are on ESPNU since I don’t get it.
Watching Western Michigan and Ball St like pointofattack.
November 25th, 2008 at 7:38 PM
texas-nd so far is a pretty good game.
November 25th, 2008 at 7:40 PM
whoa whoa whoa… you’re missing the biggest tv event of the night.. the shield at 10 pm.. come on man..series finale!
November 25th, 2008 at 7:42 PM
shocked that the Shield isn’t on the list. that’s weak sauce, TBL.
House is awesome.
November 25th, 2008 at 7:47 PM
ND can friggin shoot the lights out, but they’re only going to be as good as their offensive rebounding, because they can’t be this hot every night.
Texas is better than I thought they’d be. They’ve got some depth up front. Harangody hasn’t done shit yet.
November 25th, 2008 at 7:49 PM
I havent watched shield since…. ever. this college b-ball game has almost everything i ask of in pointless early season tourneys. good shooting, fast pace, and ranked teams with at least one player names i can recognize…
November 25th, 2008 at 7:49 PM
I third The Shield. Damn shame that show is coming to a close tonight. It’s one of the best on TV.
November 25th, 2008 at 7:50 PM
TBL how bout a post tomorrow for the shield to let the fans discuss the ending?
November 25th, 2008 at 7:56 PM
cortes-not enough teen angst on that show for him to discuss.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:06 PM
There it is!
ESPN’s “David Letterman went to Ball State” reference #1,000 this football season!
November 25th, 2008 at 8:10 PM
I’m pissed about this as well.
Meanwhile, the Huskies are up.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:12 PM
Personally, I’d rather watch “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” than watch college basketball before the conference championships and Army/Navy are over.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:13 PM
Because SEC basketball is terrible?
November 25th, 2008 at 8:13 PM
David Letterman reference #1,001
November 25th, 2008 at 8:14 PM
Because SEC basketball is terrible?
Only partly
November 25th, 2008 at 8:14 PM
Texas has no idea how to use size to their advantage, but then I guess that’s what happens when Rick Barnes is your head coach.
ND doesn’t look like much if the shots aren’t falling and you have an answer for Harangody.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:16 PM
@s1r… yeah, still not sure why they don’t use james down low more, and play in and out with abrams
November 25th, 2008 at 8:19 PM
I loves me some Bruce Pearl though.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:22 PM
WMU vs BSU turning into a good one. Also, the Cavs are destroying the Knicks right now 55-31.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:23 PM
I actually went to see LSU Sunday. There is still some talent, but Trent Johnson has a tough job ahead of him.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:24 PM
I think a post tomorrow on The Shield finale would be awesome and much appreciated. Going to be hard to beat the final episode of The Wire, but they’re very different shows and last week’s episode of The Shield was fantastic. Can’t wait to see who lives, but I have a feeling Mackey’s going to get away with it.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:24 PM
sick dunk by mason right over harangody!
November 25th, 2008 at 8:26 PM
I’ll go all the way from deep in left field for the ending of “The Shield”:
Claudette loses her fucking mind and shoots Vic in the balls.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:27 PM
i say shane and dutch don’t make it out alive…and vic makes it out..barely
November 25th, 2008 at 8:29 PM
What happens to Ronnie? And why do I suspect that he wins out in this whole thing?
November 25th, 2008 at 8:30 PM
I hope Dutch boy’s the last one standing and he then inherits Vic’s mantle…sort of like the ending to Friedkin’s To Live and Die in LA with a pre-CSI William Peterson (who, unfortunately, felt the need to do quick full frontal scene).
November 25th, 2008 at 8:33 PM
is anyone else kind of floored by the meteoric rise of ronnie? from a non-speaking supporting role to the vic’s right hand man? still not a big fan of him, as his character development has been weak…
November 25th, 2008 at 8:37 PM
They never built on Dutch’s dark side, strangling that cat like 3 seasons ago. A breakup from Claudette is enough to drive him over the edge. I say he has nothing to do with the main plot tonight but he kills that teenage boy/aspiring serial killer who’s been fucking with him.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:38 PM
Yeah, it seems like the whole Ronnie as a big part of the show has been rushed. I mean, what do we know about him? What’s-his-face charred his face on the stove, he once shaved because some girl didn’t like him going down on her with his beard, and…
Well, that’s about it. At least we saw Lem grapple with some shit morally to get a sense of him.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:41 PM
this ND texas game is awesome!
November 25th, 2008 at 8:44 PM
lem was great.. and im still torn on that.. because his death at the end of season 5 was the most shocking moment of tv for me.. i remember screaming NO NO NO!!! as shane walked up to him and it became apparent what was about to happen.. and the scene was powerful, but now that presence is lost..and i heard an interview recently with chiklis and he said he screamed at the writers to not kill lem and that if he could change any one thing about the series it would be lem’s death…
and yeah, you’re right they never built of dutch’s dark side, or for that matter, julien’s homosexuality.. they gave the appearance that he was gay for the first 2 seasons and then all of a sudden he’s straight now? no way
November 25th, 2008 at 8:52 PM
oh yeah!
just got back from our qtrfinal game where we beat the defending champs! 55-45 in a tightly contested, heated game. opponents had small, quick guards, but we had size. i only hit one bucket – a three – and a foul shot. we pounded it in to our bigs who abused their bigs. they refused to double and paid the price inside.
were off to the sems next week!
now catching up on ND-Tex …
November 25th, 2008 at 8:53 PM
harangody is automatic, Irish by 8 with 2:30 left.
why is James guarding the ND PG?
November 25th, 2008 at 8:54 PM
the knicks are own 67-36 at the half? LOL
November 25th, 2008 at 8:54 PM
abrams 6-21, ouch
November 25th, 2008 at 8:58 PM
went to high school with abrams (same graduating class too)
November 25th, 2008 at 8:59 PM
abrams cant buy a bucket, if harangody can bang these FTs, ballgame. up 8 with 68 seconds … i dont see jason williams anywhere
November 25th, 2008 at 8:59 PM
someone just said “quick hitter” and it made me think of spence
November 25th, 2008 at 9:01 PM
Irish vs. UNC … i hope Hansbrough plays. my guess is that UNC is favored by like 6-8 … the key will obvs be jackson vs. lawson out front. if jackson can hang with him, i dont see why ND can’t play with them mins Hansbrough.
UNC’s depth is far superior, tho
November 25th, 2008 at 9:02 PM
LBL – What was Abrams like? punk? dominant HS player? get all the girls?
November 25th, 2008 at 9:03 PM
and of course abrams gets hot in the final minute
just face guard the guy! or, like bilas said, foul him, since you have two fouls to give.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:05 PM
Actually didn’t go to any of the HS bball games (and only a few football games), they just weren’t the place for skateboard kids like I was. But AJ was mad popular and his teammates (some who I had classes with) only had nice things to say about him.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:06 PM
oh brother, two shots that barely graze rim. bad.
down 4 with 17 seconds left …
November 25th, 2008 at 9:07 PM
so pissed I’m going to miss the UCLA/Texas game (physics final the following morning at 8).
November 25th, 2008 at 9:08 PM
OH! which one of you called it?
ESPN.com main headline right now “King Of New York?” with lebron giving a press conference with knicks logos
November 25th, 2008 at 9:08 PM
Wow
November 25th, 2008 at 9:09 PM
mason hits a 3!
wow, 1 point game with 4.3, and the HOrns can force OT or even win it!
badly worked by ND here. why didn’t they foul the big white guy in the corner?
November 25th, 2008 at 9:09 PM
way to threadjack moleman, this game is 1 point with 4 seconds to go
November 25th, 2008 at 9:10 PM
sorry, im not watching, im writing a paper and took a break
November 25th, 2008 at 9:11 PM
Notre Dame must be pissed about being bumped from the front page for that.
I guess they’re saving their Cowboys for tomorrow’s main headline.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:11 PM
Yeah I got a few more physics problems to do, and I’m contemplating skipping my calculus discussion tomorrow morning (my only class I’ll have)
November 25th, 2008 at 9:11 PM
I just don’t get the talk, there is no chance LeBron goes to the Knicks, they are a shitstain of a team. There isn’t a single player on their roster that could even start for the Cavs. The garden is a morgue.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:12 PM
Wow
November 25th, 2008 at 9:12 PM
ND has a foul to give, it should DEF foul immediately after the in bouds
oh he missed the first. ouch.
come on Luke, are you an All-American or what?
HOLY SHIT Abrams almost made that from halfcourt!!
ND survives
November 25th, 2008 at 9:12 PM
thriller of a finish
November 25th, 2008 at 9:12 PM
what a finish
November 25th, 2008 at 9:13 PM
they were better off with the miss than him making it there, forcing to get the rebound takes more time and they dont get to set up the inbounds
November 25th, 2008 at 9:13 PM
Coop – it isn’t about NY being a “shitstain” of a team.
it’s about NEW YORK more than anything.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:14 PM
the point is in two years they will have the salary space to not be a shitstain
November 25th, 2008 at 9:14 PM
there is no chance LeBron goes to the Knicks, they are a shitstain of a team.
It doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. This is ESPN we’re talking about here. LeBron + New York rumors + November Sweeps = unwatchable hype that the mouthbreathers will eat up like M&Ms
November 25th, 2008 at 9:15 PM
Why, TBL, why would he go to a terrible team, he wants to win. They are nowhere near winning, they have 0 talent. I love Bron, but we’ve seen he can’t do it by himself.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:17 PM
when they have quotes likes this
you can hardly blame them.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:17 PM
Bad form TBL. How can you miss mentioning the series finale of The Shield?!
November 25th, 2008 at 9:20 PM
I’m not a cleveland fan, I’m a Lebron fan, so where he goes my rooting interest goes, so its not like I have scarlet colored glasses on here. The Knicks signing Lebron and then overpaying some flavor of Bosh/Amare/TMac does not equal championship.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:22 PM
if cleveland dont get to the finals in the next two years i would be shocked if he didnt go. he will be looking at it like ‘well i dont have much less of a chance with the knicks, ill get more money, and be in nyc’ i cant see him staying if that line of reasoning is present
however he needs to come out now and say im not leaving, and tell whoever the fuck it is in his entourage that is saying things to espn to shut the fuck up
November 25th, 2008 at 9:23 PM
lebron BY HIMSELF was a bounce away from winning a championship.. you’re telling me lebron + bosh OR amare in a weak eastern conf. doesn’t equal championship? how so?
November 25th, 2008 at 9:23 PM
Kobe > LeBron
November 25th, 2008 at 9:23 PM
Why, TBL, why would he go to a terrible team, he wants to win.
No. He wants to be the A-Rod of basketball. He wouldn’t even be entertaining this shit if he didn’t
November 25th, 2008 at 9:25 PM
‘
No, he wants to win the NBA championship and do it in the biggest city on the biggest stage. It is all about The City.
Remember, he wants to be a phenomenon. I know this because he says it rather regularly.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:26 PM
No. He wants to be the A-Rod of basketball
not sure what exactly this means… these guys have the biggest ego’s in the world.. you dont think edgerrin james/ arod thought (on top of getting paid MORE) that they would make their teams better; playoff better? lebron wants to get paid. wants to do it in a big city. wants to be an international star. but he wants to win man. and so does arod for that matter
November 25th, 2008 at 9:26 PM
Shit, just take D-Wade instead if LeBron doesn’t want to come there. Not much difference (when healthy, of course).
November 25th, 2008 at 9:28 PM
sweep = bounce?
November 25th, 2008 at 9:28 PM
BULLSHIT arod went from the mariners to the last place team in his own division
November 25th, 2008 at 9:29 PM
Thats just it, none of this is coming from him, this is literally all espn/media hype. He gets asked every day what is going to happen, all he says “I want to win”, thats it.
When was this, when getting swept by the Spurs or losing to the Celtics?
November 25th, 2008 at 9:30 PM
i agree, but when there are people ‘close to him’ saying its ‘not a foregone conclusion’ that 100% means to the media it IS a foregone conclusion. he has to take some of the blame for this unless espn is making up quotes.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:30 PM
yeah yeah.. meant to say that by himself he was in the championship…though he got swept against a deep spurs team..but if you give him amare or bosh who says he can’t win it?
November 25th, 2008 at 9:31 PM
No. He wants to be the A-Rod of basketball
He wants to have sex with a cult following, shriveled up corpse?
/taken way out of context.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:32 PM
if a-rod “doesn’t want to win” why didn’t he just stay collecting his money on a bad team? why did he go to the most pressure filled city in the country? its borderline asinine to claim ANY player actively doesn’t WANT to win….except vince carter
November 25th, 2008 at 9:34 PM
he got his money, fucked the rangers, and decided hey now i want to win.
he went to a horrible team, got a contract that essentially guaranteed they wouldnt be able to surround him with anyone good, but he expected to win. i dont buy that one bit.
im not saying i blame him for doing it, im just saying when he jumped at texas’ offer i think winning was nowhere near the front of his mind
November 25th, 2008 at 9:36 PM
you feel the same way about edgerrin james going to a bad arizona cardinals team 3-4 years ago?
November 25th, 2008 at 9:36 PM
wow, UW within 1 with 50 seconds left …
November 25th, 2008 at 9:38 PM
hansbrough is playing tonight, UNC just tipped. porter against Lawson might be fun
November 25th, 2008 at 9:38 PM
i dont remember edge’s situation.
i dont blame older guys for wanting to win, but if an older guy jumps from a perennial contender to a shit franchise, i dont think thats much of a debate. though i didnt think indy had any chance after he left.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:39 PM
He wants to have sex with a cult following, shriveled up corpse?
There’s no need to bring Derek Jeter into this.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:39 PM
man, oregon has some beefy big kids i dont remember from last year
November 25th, 2008 at 9:40 PM
i can buy that argument for arod/edge, as long as we make the distinction that its not mutually exclusive for arod and wanting to NEVER win, that it was only with the rangers…but..
i didnt think indy had any chance after he left
only they won a ring without edge. lol
November 25th, 2008 at 9:40 PM
Edgerrin James wasn’t going to be resigned anyway. The Colts pretty much put the writing on the wall for him. But hey, he still got a Super Bowl ring.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:42 PM
you feel the same way about edgerrin james going to a bad arizona cardinals team 3-4 years ago?
I don’t think you can compare the NFL to MLB and the NBA. Any competently-run, capwise franchise can win in the NFL. And Phoenix isn’t exactly the destination market for marketing opportunities. He just wanted to get paid and be the face of the franchise. Really dumb move.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:43 PM
hahaha, nice Jay. I’m just saying, watching the game tonight the Cavs (not just LeBron) were talent wise a much much better team. This is by far the best team he’s been on and it would be ridiculous to switch sides to that train wreck of a team they played tonight.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:43 PM
agreed
im aware, thats why i brought that up
November 25th, 2008 at 9:43 PM
In case anyone here is interested in seeing Quantum Solace, save your money and wait for it to come out on DVD. It sucked.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:44 PM
if lebron wants to win he stays with the cavs….he wants nothing but endorsement money he goes to ny- everyone talks about the ny cap space but yet always seem to forget that it’s the cavs who can also sign lbj and Another top tier player…and that’s with mo williams west and gibson under contract.
But don’t go tellin ny media/espn/tbl that… everyone on earth wants to be in new york right
November 25th, 2008 at 9:44 PM
again, the point the media is making is that based on the trades the knicks are making they are freeing up a lot of space so that in two years the team will potentially be markedly different
November 25th, 2008 at 9:44 PM
man, UNC looks good early
14-6 before the first TV TO
November 25th, 2008 at 9:45 PM
agree sportsgal.. saw it last week.. piece of shit, really.. its shame.. casino royale was great
November 25th, 2008 at 9:46 PM
LeBron in Cleveland = American Superstar
LeBron in New York = Global Icon
November 25th, 2008 at 9:47 PM
Florida survives, 86-84
November 25th, 2008 at 9:48 PM
Not that this hasn’t always existed to some extent, but this is setting a dangerous precedent for ESPN and sports journalism in general. They used to wait for a guy’s contract before they started nominating him to sign with the Yankees/Lakers/Cowboys/etc..
What’s next? In two weeks, they’re going to start speculating whether Matt Ryan will be Brett Favre’s successor with the Jets–at the rate we’re going.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:50 PM
thats an interesting point there jay… TBL what do you have to say about the way journalism is headed with all this ‘player x to team y 2 years before it’s even possible’ crap?
November 25th, 2008 at 9:51 PM
but the point is moleman is that cleveland is in the same boat with cap space and we don’t need some drastic overhaul to even be respectable
November 25th, 2008 at 9:54 PM
I know it’s 6 months away, but I can’t wait to see this movie.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:54 PM
what do u think tbl’s position is? Did u not see his “where will lebron live in NYC” bullshit
Espn has now began to make the news and not report it, and they are so big that no one dare call them on it
November 25th, 2008 at 9:55 PM
you would hate the european press. its common fare for the front page of the publications there to be soccer players photoshopped into the jerseys of other teams to further the rumors of transfers.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:57 PM
i know. thats why i said if cleveland doesnt make another finals appearance i think he will jump ship, but if they do i think he sticks around. i think if they dont make it out of the east in the next two years he will basically see it as a wash at that point
November 25th, 2008 at 9:59 PM
shield time!!!!!
November 25th, 2008 at 10:00 PM
Espn has now began to make the news and not report it, and they are so big that no one dare call them on it
And what pisses me off the most, like I mentioned in other posts, is that they will use their bully pulpit to give the “it’s good for the NBA” spin.
Which, of course, means that it’s good for ESPN, good for the financial success of the league, and good for the sub-moronic entities who don’t watch basketball but might now because they got sucked in by the hype.
Regular fans, especially the ones in Cleveland? Fuck ‘em.
Competitive balance? Fuck ‘em.
Small market and teams they choose not to market? Fuck ‘em.
Integrity of the league? Fuck ‘em.
I’m just tired of it all. It makes me hate sports and just want to give up on it altogether. And don’t misinterpret that for a hatred of New York in general.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:02 PM
i agree that all that stuff sucks jay; but the nba exists to make money not to please people, its the nature of the beast. and when the cavs in the finals draw pathetic ratings and the lakers, celtics, pistons, etc draw respectable ratings you really cannot blame them.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:05 PM
Didn’t ESPN just show New Orleans at OKC on national TV? Not exactly a big-market blockbuster.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:06 PM
I agree with u on that moleman…winning is what will facilitate his choice not the bright lights of NYC(I know Soooooo hard to believe right)
November 25th, 2008 at 10:08 PM
I know moleman, but it’s not like the NBA is going bankrupt. Too many people in business act like if they don’t suck every single penny humanly possible out their consumers, that it “bad for business.” I have a hard time feeling sorry for people who could have made 500 million dollars but only made 450 million instead.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:10 PM
“Once, packer banged every chick in the office. it was hysterical.”
November 25th, 2008 at 10:13 PM
“I’m pretty much a fan of everything Joe Rogan does.”
November 25th, 2008 at 10:15 PM
UNC is running oregon out of the gym, already up 23 with 5 mins left in the half. oregon can’t get an offense going.
now comes KU-Syracuse … in the two biggest, SU owns KU. i think it was the 1996 regional final where the Cuse upset KU … that’s the game when Al McGuire was dancing to “the cuse is in the house!” and i believe the game was in Denver.
and then we all remember the national championship game when Gmac and Melo carried the cuse.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:18 PM
UNC is running oregon out of the gym, already up 23 with 5 mins left in the half. oregon can’t get an offense going.
Billy Packer just e-mailed me and told me that the game was over.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:19 PM
i could go with a mikenyc joke but ill just stick to the hard and true ‘you monster they have kids to feed!’
November 25th, 2008 at 10:19 PM
FWIW, 45-22 Ball State.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:21 PM
TBL – Yes.
I was on Spring Break in Breckenridge. Smoking Paul Pierce (seriously, he looked stoned the whole game. Of course, so were we at the time) kept not handling the ball (had a good game otherwise). Got hammerred halfway up the mountain watch this game. Skiing while drunk after that was interesting. Have I mentioned I love Colorado ski towns?
NC game… don’t forget Collison’s inability to hit free throws in that game. GMAC was on fire in the first half. Terrible. Syracuse came to play and KU took too long to get the jitters out. Great win for Syracuse. Can’t argue with that.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:22 PM
do you have any idea how hard it is to put a kid through college on 500 million a year?
November 25th, 2008 at 10:24 PM
‘you monster they have kids to feed!’
Ahhh…The Latrell Sprewell Defense
You know, 7th and 8th summer homes don’t just grow on trees.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:24 PM
cuse and KU about to tip .. UNC not even worth watching, up 25
November 25th, 2008 at 10:25 PM
KC, you a big skier? that’s one sport i simply cannot handle. too challenging

jayhawks already brick two laysups in transition
November 25th, 2008 at 10:29 PM
Uh oh, Dutch Boy.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:30 PM
TBL -
We used to make 3 or 4 trips out for four days every year. Until I got married. Things have slowed since. Haven’t been skiing since the boy has been born.
KU bricked a ton of easy shot early last night. Young team. Nervous. Hopefully, they will calm down. I don’t like the odds playing against a zone. Hopefully, the D will be good.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:31 PM
tried snowboarding tbl? i find it easier, you only have one thing to worry about rather than four independent motions with skiing.
i do miss going to a college where i got class credit for snowboarding.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:33 PM
TBL
re: skiing
There will always be better skiers in your group. When learning, just go off by yourself and figure it out. On the third day you’ll hit something akin to the Zone in sports. You might not be great, but you’ll get the flow. Skiing for fun shouldn’t be competitive, but if you around a bunch of guys and gals that are good, it will get intimidating. Just go off on your own. Fall a lot. Figure it out. Big fun!
November 25th, 2008 at 10:35 PM
this will sound gayer than eight guys fucking nine guys but when i snowboard i sing to myself, it calms me down and makes it easier to focus on whats going on because im just thinking about the song and my eyes are seeing the stuff in front of me and making my brain react.
plus falling on a snowboard is better than on skis, you tend not to lose anything and do a lot more flips
November 25th, 2008 at 10:36 PM
TBL you watching the Office?
November 25th, 2008 at 10:36 PM
Curry didn’t score! Davidson wins by 30. opponent decided to put 2 guys on Curry and play 4 on 3. curry ran to the corner and had 2 guys on him, and Davidson won the 4 on 3 joker. curry went 0-for-3

yes, tampa, alternating between SU-KU game and the office
November 25th, 2008 at 10:38 PM
Fuck Western Michigan, I hope they never win another game.
I prefer skiing, something about having both feet locked into one position just didn’t do it for me. That and I was over 50 when I tried it.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:42 PM
youve got balls. i got hurt constantly doing it at 18 i couldnt even imagine the aches you would get at that age from tumbling. the hardest part of snowboarding to me was always standing up once you had both feet locked in, like after taking a fall. but once you get that mastered, its on.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:43 PM
TBL did Curry’s draft stock just drop?
November 25th, 2008 at 10:45 PM
let’s see what kansas is made of with collins on the bench …
syracuse is getting looks, they just can’t make anything.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:46 PM
no way, Tampa – it was a gimmick defense
i haven’t seen highlights, i just assume Curry didn’t even touch the ball most of the time
November 25th, 2008 at 10:47 PM
The refs have taken Syracuse out of this game already. Thanks guys
November 25th, 2008 at 10:49 PM
This is what I hate about the NCAA. In the RPI this a neutral court game when we all know it’s a Kansas home game. Ridiculous.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:49 PM
is frank caliendo gonna go away now that bush is done? i hope he can’t do an obama
November 25th, 2008 at 10:52 PM
TBL that would be racist.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:53 PM
Why? He does Barkley? In blackface or something or other.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:54 PM
@ rs27, are you putting ‘Cuse on “the bubble” already?
November 25th, 2008 at 10:55 PM
Tbl he has a black guy do him…I think I saw it in an ad
8 guys fucking 9 guys good stuff moleman
November 25th, 2008 at 10:55 PM
rs it would be so bad it would look racist.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:57 PM
rs27 -
Good point. Any KC game is a psuedo Ku home game. There are something like 80,000 alumni (not counting other Ku fans) in the metro area. Lawrence is about 50 minutes from the Spring Center (not including the time spent finding parking and walking).
November 25th, 2008 at 10:57 PM
flynn, how about finishing something? anything? SU just looks out of sorts.
Alrich with a huge swat of Harris. damn
November 25th, 2008 at 10:57 PM
Tamp bo- gotcha
Triston- haha. After the last two years I say yes. They’re projected to finish 8th in the big east and they’re no way better than Notre Dame, Louisville, Pittsburgh, or UConn so that puts them in tenous shape. I’m an SU fan, so I’m born pessimistic
November 25th, 2008 at 10:58 PM
moleman,
I was skiing with my son and I rode the chairlift with a guy my age who was snowboarding. I asked him if it was hard and said No, it’s a piece of cake. so the next day my son and I go for snowboarding lessons and the guy from the lift was the instructor. He takes one look at me and starts laughing and then says “I was kidding yesterday about it being easy.” I had bruises on top of bruises by the end of the day, but it’s still one of the best days I ever had with my son. We laughed all day and then drank all night.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:58 PM
Kansas has won 28 striaght games in Kansas City, The only thing I like about this game is that Kansas isn’t up 15 yet.
November 25th, 2008 at 10:58 PM
Same goes for Manhattan, KS and Boulder.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:00 PM
Devendorf is on fire tonight. the kids at courtside must be learning some new vocab.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:00 PM
nice steal and flush by Flynn, only down by 3 …
November 25th, 2008 at 11:00 PM
thats awesome. its definitely something that you have to be able to laugh at yourself otherwise you will just get angry.
i got knocked down by a lift once and the operator wasnt paying attention and it just kept dragging me; had i not been high as shit i might have been pissed
November 25th, 2008 at 11:01 PM
anyone watching the shield? holy crap
November 25th, 2008 at 11:02 PM
Mcdonough Bilas and Raftery are talking about coach’s shirts.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:02 PM
Frank TV is awful.
/not surprised but wow this is bad
November 25th, 2008 at 11:04 PM
Cortes
- Wow. That was nuts.
/Chris Benoit’d
November 25th, 2008 at 11:05 PM
Same goes for Manhattan, KS and Boulder.
Boulder. Denver is the 3rd or 4th biggest KU alumni base (Dallas the other). CU home games vs Ku are comical. 3/4 empty arena with 3/4 of those there being Ku expats. And I like Cu, but if I was in college in Boulder, basketball would be the last thing on my mind.
Good story, Cabbage. Battle wounds bring families together.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:07 PM
bsanders, what exactly did he do to mara and jackson? he didn’t shoot them, there was no blood.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:07 PM
obviously he killed them but i mean how so
November 25th, 2008 at 11:08 PM
Not sure, I’m guessing it had something to do with the pens?
November 25th, 2008 at 11:10 PM
i just wish that would have been clearer, whatever it was.. there’s no more time for explanation, i wanted it to be clear you know… initially i thought he od’d them on drugs. not sure
November 25th, 2008 at 11:12 PM
Wow…everybody’s kicking the bucket.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:12 PM
terrible first half by the cuse. down 11. as poorly as they played, i dont think a comeback is out of the question. real nice passing from Kansas, Collins has 14, and the freshman kid #15 is playing well.
harris played poorly for the cuse, and flynn wasn’t particularly impressive, either
November 25th, 2008 at 11:14 PM
Fynn was terrible. Can’t sugar coat that half. Turning the ball over, awful decisions. Had a chance to go into the break down 4-7 now down 11.
If Kansas can miss some outside shots this game will tighten up.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:15 PM
15 is Taylor. I’m impressed by him. Scored 9 in a row.
The game is most certainly not over. A bunch of Freshman and first year sophmores will get tested. Ku’s passing is superimpressive against the zone considering the zone. Too much fouling. Young team. Talent is carrying them. Vitale is crazy if he things KU is going to compete for the Big 12 title. The freshman will hit a wall. Always happens. Just be together by the end of February.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:21 PM
No offense KC, but Syracuse’s zone stinks. Too many holes, Devendorf doesn’t guard anyone and harris is always out of position. Compare this zone to the zone they played from 2002-2005 and you won’t recognize it. I expect them to come out in man this half at some point.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:22 PM
@ KC, agree about hitting the wall. But don’t forget, KU is in the north and Texas and OU can beat each other up twice. Plus, it’s the Big 12, KU is always at or near the top. It’s written in the conference contracts.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:26 PM
I have the over in the Oregon game. This is unbelievable.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:26 PM
the only unc question is whether the heels cover 17. i didnt wager on it, just curious if they’ll cover or not. they have been playing reserves since like the 10 min mark, and currently lead by 25. it was up to like 31
November 25th, 2008 at 11:28 PM
best tv show ever.. good lord bsanders… what a finish
November 25th, 2008 at 11:29 PM
The O/U was 170 and they were only at 73 at the half with a huge lead. Usually recipe for disaster. Somehow this has gotten close.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:31 PM
Damn, he’s going to have to become a paper pusher.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:33 PM
It’s like they just ripped out Vic Mackey’s soul.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:33 PM
Clark Johnson!
November 25th, 2008 at 11:35 PM
RS, what was the over in oregon/unc?
November 25th, 2008 at 11:35 PM
need a 3 for a push
November 25th, 2008 at 11:36 PM
dammit
November 25th, 2008 at 11:36 PM
omg! it was 170? you missed by 3!!! sucks
November 25th, 2008 at 11:36 PM
170, small play anyways not a big deal
November 25th, 2008 at 11:37 PM
I hit 2 huge ones yesterday with Syracuse +3 and Oregon pick ‘em.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:38 PM
agree 100%. hasn’t been good sine they won the title. not sure if this has to do with the players in the program, or just boeheim not focusing as much on it because he got a title.
if this team had one more big i would like their chances to do some damage in march, but they’re so damn thin behind #21
November 25th, 2008 at 11:40 PM
I just don’t understand why Boeheim isn’t playing man. They gave up 83 last night and are on pace for the same tonight. Doesn’t make any sense. Man can’t be that much worse at this point.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:40 PM
ok. So I clicked on sportsgals link in comment 103. It was the imdb page for the new Terminator movie. Ok, good deal, so i close it. But then it opens again, and again, and again. and I couldn’t stop it. it’s official, Skynet has taken over my laptop. And thus it begins.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:41 PM
best guess bsanders.. what does vic mackey end up doing?..final scene shows him walking away with his gun in his back pocket..does he serve out his 3 years behind the desk? do his life sentence with ronnie? run?
November 25th, 2008 at 11:43 PM
can rautins make a fucking shot tonight?
November 25th, 2008 at 11:44 PM
this defense is atrocious. no one within 5 feet of these guys.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:45 PM
TBL/rs27 -
No doubt Cuse’s zone isn’t what it was. I’m impressed how KU’s young guys are playing against a zone with against a top level conference team. The passing is great. As a fan, I’m happy a bunch of young kids are playing together.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:45 PM
Cortes
- Hmm, it’s tough to say, but the purposeful way he left that office made it seem like he wouldn’t be back. If I had to guess I’d say he’s going to find his kids, but that’s just a guess. I think the whole him not eating his gun at his desk was meant to show how his fate ended up being worse than Shane or Ronnie’s.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:47 PM
throw it down, paul harris
throw it down!
November 25th, 2008 at 11:47 PM
KC- I would argue that this isn’t a zone as much as 5 guys just standing around.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:47 PM
back to back flynn bucketss, down to 6 again …
November 25th, 2008 at 11:48 PM
yeah i’d agree..that in the end, they all got it bad.. lem and shane died, ronnie the life sentence, and vic had it worst of all like you said, because now he’s all alone with nothing.. great ending
November 25th, 2008 at 11:49 PM
TBL- I will say I like this SU team but can’t see them doing much come tourney time due to the backline as you said. Its Onuaku and scraps.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:49 PM
another steal by Flynn! down to 4!
November 25th, 2008 at 11:49 PM
Fired UP!
November 25th, 2008 at 11:49 PM
Fuck.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:50 PM
flynn talking a lot of junk out there
there was some trash-talking at the end of our awesome win tonight, but it didn’t matter, we had the game sewn up
November 25th, 2008 at 11:50 PM
Totally. That was an awesome finale. We got closure on pretty much everything. They even showed us Julian’s still gay. Still wish they would’ve developed Ronnie further before making him such an integral part of the ending, but that’s just a small quibble.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:50 PM
This defense has gotten them going, let’s hope they didn’t blow their energy..
November 25th, 2008 at 11:53 PM
It all started with Aldridge missing that lay up then committing a frustration foul. Downhill since.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:54 PM
It all started with Flynn turning up the defensive intensity. This is why SU has to play man.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:54 PM
rs27 – Flynn is fun to watch. Him and Collins are different, but they have that same energy. Hyper little bastards.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:56 PM
this one’s getting heated
dont nobody go to bed
November 25th, 2008 at 11:56 PM
KC- agree, I like watching the smallish guards with high energy, i.e. Flynn, Collins, Tajuan Porter and Abrams from Texas.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:00 AM
BINGO- Rautins!
November 26th, 2008 at 12:01 AM
Bewteen this game and the Texas-Notre Dame game this is why you have to love college basketball
November 26th, 2008 at 12:01 AM
man that white kid has hit 3 3’s tonight
brutal after the harris airball
rautins really needs to show up tonight, what a waste he’s been
November 26th, 2008 at 12:02 AM
This under 8 timeout is huge. These teams are tired.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:02 AM
I hope KU wins. If not, I still had a good night. Three great endings. UT/ND and UW/UF and this game.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:03 AM
I love me some College Hoops.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:04 AM
TBL- Rautins only had taken 5 shots tonight. Little harsh on him since he just buried a humongous 3.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:05 AM
As I say that he bricks an open one. Damn you’re right
November 26th, 2008 at 12:14 AM
Thanks Doris, for telling me the exact same story you told last night about Collins.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:15 AM
Dvendorf must be on the take. What the hell is he doing?
November 26th, 2008 at 12:18 AM
rs27 -
Good call on the man to man. Completely different game this half.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:19 AM
KC- this is fun huh?
November 26th, 2008 at 12:22 AM
what an insane block by harris!
fucking flynn, ball hogging it again with too much dribble .. what does he have, 10 turnovers?
November 26th, 2008 at 12:22 AM
Ballhog? What? They were setting up pick and roll and he got picked. They’ve been doing that all half.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:22 AM
Fuck Hakim Warrick. Wait, wrong game.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:22 AM
Left meniscus tear.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:23 AM
yeah, finally rautins hit a shot. but he’s their 2nd best shooter after devendorf and he had a big night last night, so i thought he’d be good for at least 3 triple’s a game.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:24 AM
These two team exceeding expectations and a rematch in the Elite 8? Collins v Flynn needs to happen again.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:25 AM
alrdich at the line, let’s see if he can make any …
November 26th, 2008 at 12:25 AM
Triston- i would feel bad if you guys didn’t win last year. But I became a Collison fan in ‘03. Kid played his heart out.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:26 AM
oooooo
flynn with a three!!!!!
tied!!!!!
November 26th, 2008 at 12:26 AM
Jonny FLynn! WHAT!
November 26th, 2008 at 12:26 AM
what a clutch shot by Flynn!
i take back the ball hogging comment!
November 26th, 2008 at 12:26 AM
Collins v Flynn needs to happen again.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:27 AM
@rs27, he did, if only he could hit a free throw when it mattered. And if G-Mac were human in the first half.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:28 AM
This game is amazing. I’m ok with an SU loss here. come back from 11 in the second half basically on the road. But I would like the win of course.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:29 AM
Triston- 19 and 21 in the title game? The only reason that game was close was because of him, FTs or not.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:29 AM
well that’s a nice open to the OT
Cuse turned this around with defense, and stay with the man
let’s scrap the zone this year, jimmy
November 26th, 2008 at 12:29 AM
Aldrich is a beast in the paint.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:31 AM
TBL- Jimmy scrap the zone? that will never happen.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:32 AM
rs27, I completely agree. But the FT’s killed me. Great game though. As is this one.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:32 AM
In a close game Syracuse guards always turn it into a 1-on-1 game, driving the lane and throwing up some junk. And Jimmy B just stands there watching.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:34 AM
Bacon- It’s devendorf. HE’s supposed to be getting flynn the ball of screens, instead he takes into the lane and either
a.) gets it blocked
b.) turns it over
c.) yells at someone
November 26th, 2008 at 12:36 AM
The cuse’ is in the house oh my God! oh my God!
/been playing xbox for 3 hours been missing out.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:36 AM
Collins is fucking spent.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:37 AM
yeah he looked beat at the end of regulation
November 26th, 2008 at 12:40 AM
ball game. Which is ok. KU needed a game like this early being so young.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:40 AM
Good game, RS27. Heading to bed.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:41 AM
same KC, aldrich is better than i expected for sure
November 26th, 2008 at 12:46 AM
terrific SU win
maybe this will be the ushering in of a a new defensive outlook
November 26th, 2008 at 12:46 AM
rs27 –
I really hope The Cuse is much better than the 8th best Big East team. I’m a Flynn man.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:47 AM
Boeheim will still play zone no matter what but he’ll play more man for sure this year.
These were a huge two games for this program.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:51 AM
KU is gonna be solid as the year progresses. Lotta young talent there and they had this game in the bag before the Flynn shot. Good game.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:51 AM
Thank you Vitale. Don’t confuse Sprint Center with the Phog. ‘Cuse really showed some good intensity and didn’t give up. That’s what teams need early in the season. That will play out well for them down the road.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:54 AM
Trisont- It was obvious it was totally different when the crowd made no noise at the start of the second half until SU got within 5 or so. The Phog would never let that happen.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:58 AM
The Phog would have been loud throughout. Still think it was good for both teams. Learning experience for both teams as SU can play the “we’re not out of it” card and KU can play the “gotta match the opponents intensity” card
