Groups A-D finished Champions League qualifying yesterday. The top two teams in each group advance to the knockout stages. The third-place team parachutes down to the UEFA Cup. Here are the group results.

Group A: Roma (12), Chelsea (11), Bordeaux (7), CFR Cluj-Napoca (4)

Roma overcame their opening round hiccups, with two crucial 3-1 away wins. Chelsea, though nervy, got their needed last-day win on a Drogba goal. Bordeaux took just one point from a possible 12 against Roma and Chelsea. Cluj hit Roma in the balls on Match Day 1. Everyone else wore a cup. MVP: Frank Lampard (Chelsea)

Group B: Panathinaikos (10), Inter Milan (8), Werder Bremen (7), Anorthosis (6)

This group, surprisingly, was the most evenly matched. The Greeks gave a fair effort, earning ten points despite a goal difference of just +1. Jose Mourinho joined Inter to win the Champions League. He must be too busy filming to worry about qualifiers. Either Werder or Anorthosis could have emerged with better luck. MVP: Giorgias Karagounis (Panathinaikos)

Group C: Barcelona (13), Sporting Lisbon (12), Shakhtar Donetsk (9), Basel (1)

Barcelona are the best team in Europe. Their only loss came in a meaningless match on the last day. Sporting won all their games not against Barcelona. Shakhtar looked deceptively impressive, beating up on lowly Basel and the Barcelona Reserves. Basel wear Barcelona’s uniform. That’s where the similarity ends. MVP: Lionel Messi (Barcelona)

Group D: Liverpool (14), Atletico Madrid (12), Marseille (4), PSV (3)

Liverpool and Atletico drew each other and outscored everyone else 16-5. Atletico’s last day draw decided the group for Liverpool. Marseille competed, but were outmatched. Danny Koevermans scored four goals for PSV. The rest of the team was outscored 14-1. MVP: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
