Let the Crusade Against Miami Coach Randy Shannon Begin
1-liner, College Football January 3rd. 2009, 1:30pmRandy Shannon is a Jerk: “After two years, one season and 11 starts [Robert Marve] wanted to transfer. Miami coach Randy Shannon said he could but only before taking what is one of the NCAA’s most ethically empty traditions and putting it on steroids. Schools commonly limit where a player can transfer, often to other schools within its league. Shannon took it to the extreme. According to Marve, he was prohibited from transferring to 27 schools. That includes all 11 of the other teams in the ACC, all 12 in the SEC and four others in the state of Florida. Even lower-level programs such as Florida International apparently now terrify the Hurricanes. Marve hails from Tampa. His father has prostate cancer and while it’s not the stated reason for the transfer, Marve understandably wants to stay in the Southeast, if not in state.” Is there more to this story we are unaware of? Randy Shannon, did you lose your heart over the holidays? We’ll definitely revisit this topic during the week. (Yahoo Sports)

Wasn’t Marve suspended from two games already this year? Didn’t he originally say he was gonna stay at Miami before he found out the he wasn’t going to be the starter in the spring? Wasn’t he going to attend Alabama before Shula was fired, even though his dad had prostate cancer then?

Rules are rules. Even if your dad has ass cancer.

Who cares? LEt the kid transfer. If he’s not good enough to play at Miami why should Randy Shannon care where he goes. He’s just a kid. I can’t believe people think this sort of thing is ok to do to kids that are 18-22. When I was 18-22 I changed my mind every 2 minutes.

man up and live with your decisions

I really don’t see this being a big deal. It’s not unusual to not let him transfer within the conference, and I thought I read elsewhere he only said 4 other schools outside the ACC. They mostly play schools from Florida when they play out-of-conference, so they don’t want to play him. What’s the big deal? It’s not that unsual. By all accounts, the kid’s a whiney crybaby who conducts himself with a slight aire of douchebagerry, who cares? Maybe if he wasn’t a dick, he would have his way.
Even though I get he changes his mind constantly. I’m in my “Sr.” year of college, and I’ve changed majors twice. Still, not a big deal.

I agree with Buckner. THis isn’t that unusual. It’s unusual that it becomes public. And I thought there was a rule that if you transfer within the conference, you have to sit out 2 years. Or does it depend on the conference?

Buck- I’m a Junior and on my 5th major, so I totally understand the changing your mind thing. I even almost had to transfer cause my school doesn’t have one of the majors I was thinking about.
Marve should go to Kansas
January 3rd, 2009 at 3:16 PM
that’s funny. i can understand the conference blocking, and not wanting to play him. but 27 SCHOOLS? that’s excessive.
fetch, you’re in college? how did i not know that? lucky bastard.
as for marve ditching bama because the coach left …what’s wrong with that?

5th major, eh? That’s impressive. That might be the most I’ve heard. And I actually AM transferring cuz my major was a joke at my former school. Well that, and more or less being banished from my school’s XC and track teams. Good times.
And Kansas would be a good idea, with Reesing gone.
Not sure about sitting out 10 years, I feel like only the NCAA could come up with some absurd rule like that.

TBL – You forget to actually read the column you linked to again? This was part of it:
Friday evening, after this column was originally posted, Miami softened its stance slightly and will now allow Marve to transfer on scholarship to any SEC school other than Florida, LSU and Tennessee. Miami alleges those schools were tampering with the player. The ACC and in-state ban stands though.

TBL- being in college kinda sucks now because 1. I go to the coldest campus in the country so you literally can’t go out on some weekends and 2. I have the LSAT coming up in either April or June so I have to study for that nonstop. Not good times.

I think Fairbanks, Alaska would like to talk to you about that, fetch
January 3rd, 2009 at 3:55 PM
Just sack it up and go to FAMU.
It’s not like he can’t go to the other schools. He just can’t do it and play next year. Tough shit.

Oh yeah Hawk, lower 48 my bad.
January 3rd, 2009 at 3:56 PM
Didn’t the same thing happen to Brock Berlin? In reverse?
January 3rd, 2009 at 3:57 PM
I thought it got cold going to school in the Poconos was cold, I can’t even fathom the Dakota’s or Alaska. Fuck that. I have a hard enough time dragging myself to class as is, I would never go if it were that cold.

Marve is a douchebag.
January 3rd, 2009 at 4:37 PM
One of the main reasons I think he’s a douche is him getting his own initials tattooed on the back of his arms, just in case he forgets…tool. Only LBJ can get away with that…or athletes that aren’t white.
January 3rd, 2009 at 4:38 PM
Maybe he can go to one of those schools anyway, and then to keep his eligibility lie about Miami paying him

So what if the kid is a douche….DI coaches change schools like underwear and suffer no penalties so why should a second rate DI player get told where they can or cannot transfer?
He’s already going to have to sit out next year and that seems like penalty enough. Shannon should be the man in the situation and just cut the douche bag loose.

RACIST!?
January 3rd, 2009 at 11:13 PM
This is another one of TBL’s disguised attempts at attacking one thing to diguise his real contempt for something else, in this case that would be the Miami football program. Like TBL, I’ll wait until this becomes an issue next week but there is definitely more to this story than what that wahoo on yahoo wrote.

Berrard Berrian thinks TBL should read exactly one more paragraph of that article before posting the hyperbole.
