All’s quiet on the Miami front. For now.

In your holiday slumber, perhaps you missed the tete-a-tete between the Hurricanes and their young QB, Robert Marve.

Backstory: a highly-touted QB after being tabbed Florida’s Mr. Football in 2007, Marve gave a verbal to Alabama and coach Mike Shula. Then, Shula was bounced. Marve backed out and signed with Miami. Then he redshirted due to injuries suffered in a car accident.

This year, he split time at QB with another youngster, Jacory Harris. Coaches determined Harris was their QB of the future. Then came allegations that Marve’s Stage Father (a former NFL player) contacted schools about a transfer … and next thing you know, Marve’s been released from his scholarship, but under one condition: He can’t transfer to a ton of schools.

That lengthy list was recently reduced, but Miami has prevented Marve from going to Florida, Tennessee, or LSU. After you’ve formed your opinion on the subject … take a gander at these comments. An interesting debate to say the least.

We’ve gone back and forth on this in recent days. Is Marve even that good? He’s definitely not playing at LSU in the next few years, not with the young QBs they have and the star recruit coming in. Florida? Well, now there’s only one guy to beat two years from now when Marve’s eligible. Tennessee? Seems unlikely. But the Hurricanes, at least according to this site, don’t have an SEC opponent on the schedule in the next few years. What’s the big deal if he wants to go to the SEC?

Maybe the argument could be made that if Miami gets to the title game, there’s a good chance it’ll be against an SEC team, since Florida or LSU have played in the last three BCS Championship games, and Marve has complete knowledge of the ‘Canes offensive and defensive strategies. We’d just say let the kid go wherever he wants, in the next few years, it won’t matter.
