FOX Has Mastered the Bowl Game Art of Finding a Relevant Player Girlfriend
College Football January 6th. 2009, 10:15am
The text messages started rolling in shortly after 9 pm. None of them were about the game. FOX, in a scene eerily reminiscent to the Notre Dame-Ohio State game a few years back when cameras were fixated on Brady Quinn’s sister/AJ Hawk’s fiancee, couldn’t stop cutting to Colt McCoy’s family in the stands last night. Luckily, McCoy’s blonde girlfriend, in her high-def glory (after the jump), was with them. Sports Hernia, who happens to be the most prolific screen-grabber on the internet (Cortes is a close 2nd), captured a couple last night, and a reader contributed the large one after the jump.
One text message claimed she was “Jessica Simpson, but hotter” and another claimed it was our civic duty to pressure a friend of ours to have his bachelor party in Austin this Fall. We’ll do our best.
Decent bowl game, huh? Another case where a team (Ohio State) with seemingly nothing to play for surprises the masses and makes things mildly interesting. The Buckeyes were done in by a classic final drive by Colt McCoy, who exploded in the second half, and it makes us wonder if a guy like Malcolm Jenkins’ NFL draft stock took a hit last night.
And now, Terrelle Pryor. He’s got to be the Heisman leader heading into next season, assuming Sam Bradford leaves. (Sorry McCoy and Tebow.) So what if his passing skills need an entire summer of work. So what if Chris Wells leaves. Pryor will dominate the Big 10 next year, although we don’t expect him to win at Penn State. In his case, the high school hype was definitely warranted.
He seems like a blend of Vick and Vince Young – elusive and speedy, makes everything look easy, and in the open field, his gallop reminds us of Adrian Peterson’s. Love the idea to use him as a WR at the goal line. We would have put him back to return the kickoff at the very end. In fact, since everyone knew Texas was going drop into a prevent D, why not have Pryor break a 30-yard run up the middle, call timeout, and try a lengthy field goal?
Stat that may or may not be relevant: Sweatervest has now lost three straight bowl games.

wtf? he wasn’t thrown at more than 3x last night. texas avoided his side of the field like gay, interracial marriage.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:17 AM
This doesn’t bode too well for his NFL prospects.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:21 AM
The pic below the jump makes her kinda look like Danica Patrick with blonde hair
January 6th, 2009 at 10:22 AM
TBL i think you are thinking of Chimdi Chekwa, tejas was targeting him all night
January 6th, 2009 at 10:23 AM
He seems like a blend of Vick and Vince Young
He watches dog fights shirtless?
January 6th, 2009 at 10:23 AM
I don’t think the Fox cameras focused on Colt’s girlfriend near enough.

This is how The Sports Hernia Stays in business. He does great work.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:25 AM
On Colt’s GF – cute. No Godzilla Biscuits, but cute.
BTW, have we sent out the scouting parties for spencer? Suicide watch in effect?
Or is that more homicide watch in case he loses it and goes after the vest?
January 6th, 2009 at 10:25 AM
Brilliance
January 6th, 2009 at 10:25 AM
49 passes and you think Jenkins wasn’t thrown at?
I also need to say the OSU RB, #1, looked like a player last night. They wont miss Wells too much if that kid is healthy.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:26 AM
I could have used more band shots.
As much as I love to rag on OSU, thats one hell of a stomach punch, what those guys have gone through to not only lose, but to lose in that fashion. I do feel for you OSU meatballs, at least for today, tomorrow you’re trash again.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:26 AM
spencer’s reaction
January 6th, 2009 at 10:27 AM
One text message claimed she was “Jessica Simpson, but hotterâ€
not even close
January 6th, 2009 at 10:29 AM
She looks like Heidi Montag. Oops, did I say that out loud?
January 6th, 2009 at 10:30 AM
No. He wasn’t. Not more than a couple times, and when he was they were short, underneath routes where he nailed the guy right when he caught it. He was also seen coming up to stop the run like a bat out of hell. As much as Texas was throwing short, slant routes it was the linebackers who were being targeted. Just because Texas doesn’t have a running game doesn’t mean Jenkins didn’t play well. He’s a top-10 pick for sure.
Watch the whole field, not just the ball.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:31 AM
im sure they threw at him but they had 0 success against jenkins…they were picking on number 5 chekwa most of the night
January 6th, 2009 at 10:32 AM
wasn’t it 59 passes? and yea, i KNOW jenkins wasn’t thrown at more than 3 times. why would they need to test the best CB in college football when they can get 10 yards per pass against shitty chekwa and donald washington?
January 6th, 2009 at 10:32 AM
Until the second game of the season against USC.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:33 AM
I doubt Pryor’s wonderlic results will be very high considering he runs out of bounds 2yds before the first down marker for no reason.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:34 AM
Cosby caught 14 balls, Shipley 10, and Collins 7. I’m pretty sure Jenkins would have been covering one of those guys a few times they caught the ball.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:35 AM
Terrelle Pryor will be the leader. Not that’s necessarily been of any help to the last 2 Heisman winners.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:36 AM
You and TBL both have this idea that since he threw a lot of passes, some had to be at Jenkins. They weren’t. Watch the game.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:37 AM
not to be an asshole or anything, but you’re incorrect.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:38 AM
How the hell is Pryor the Heisman leader going into next year? With those nasty shotput throws he makes Tebow (umm, there’s your leader) look like Joe Montana. He’s not even the best QB in the B10 (Clark).
January 6th, 2009 at 10:38 AM
I hope the Bills do not draft Jenkins. They fall in love with players from Ohio State(Youboty, Whitner, clements, whinfield)
January 6th, 2009 at 10:39 AM
I dont doubt Jenkins is a major talent.
i hope my impression last night wasn’t tarnished by him whiffing on mccoy’s TD run.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:40 AM
Pryor on sheer talent alone. you are aware he was a true freshman, right?
January 6th, 2009 at 10:40 AM
That TD run was tight I didnt know McCoy had it in him. He spun on that bitch.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:41 AM
Pryor should be a WR now because thats what he is going to have to be in the NFL.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:42 AM
A lot regarding next year’s Heisman race will be decided by who goes pro and who sticks around.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:42 AM
TBL…yea, jenkins’ whiff on mccoy was bad. that run was pretty slick.
mccoy still blows tho.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:42 AM
Well, I know who I won’t be sending out to scout games.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:42 AM
Me too. They need a spark to that offense, anything. It starts with firing the o-coordinator.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:43 AM
Not even a few? I admit to not paying attention to who was covering the receiver, but seriously?
January 6th, 2009 at 10:45 AM
Nope. Jenkins got the full-on Asomugha last night.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:45 AM
TBL, you’re wrong on Jenkins, and it’s been pointing out. In fact, three different times he looked to Jenkins side of the field and had to pull back his throw, and was consequntly sacked.
As for TP, his throwing motion is bad, but not as bad as Vince Young.. not sure why people are assuming he won’t get better as a passer. (other than our offensive coaches…grrrr!).
The WVU message boards are all saying how Pat White was better as a redshirt frosh..interesting – considering TP is actually trying to learn to play QB, and not a slash position.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:47 AM
NSR…seriously, jenkins was thrown at no more than 3x last night. i swear to god…if im wrong, may i get teh HIV.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:47 AM
this was a comical quote by McCoy after the game..
January 6th, 2009 at 10:48 AM
I’m curious to see how OSU responds, after all the big game losses blowing one like that can really put you on a downward spiral. No Beanie, receivers will still suck, lots of losses on the defense. Toss in low confidence, an early season beatdown from USC, and it could be a long year.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:48 AM
I was thinking the same thing about having Pryor back on the kick, TBL. but that’s a lot of pressure on a kid that has probably never returned kickoffs before.
I would have bet my house that Boeckman was going to take that sack.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:50 AM
I guess I did notice Chekwa being involved in most of the action.
When Boeckman came in at the end of the first half my thought was, well, Texas is going to get another shot before halftime.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:51 AM
The Heisman? That thing is about a relevant as the Ray Guy award.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:51 AM
it all starts with the o line.. they had 4 studs come in this past year. i think tOSU will be ok..
January 6th, 2009 at 10:52 AM
recievers already sucked, so…
im confident as all hell, to be honest. OSU’s OL recruiting was beast-mode the last two years, but our frosh’s who wouldve replaced shitty boone and browning, both were hurt. they’re insanely good (check out mike adams’ youtubes for sheer ass-whooping).
you can hate OSU, but their recruiting has been top notch. the defensive losses will suck, especially jenkins, but i think it’s better for the team. this senior team was a lot of reputation and nothing else…they were holding guys back who can really play and next year should be MUCH better, especially with pryor growing up.
meanwhile…PSU blows.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:53 AM
I’d agree with you, but this team is pretty young. Pryor, Posey and Herron weren’t around for the Florida and LSU losses. And while they certainly lose some key guys off their defense, few teams reload that side of the ball better than OSU.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:53 AM
@mike- we need more than a spark. I was disappointed that Wilson took back Jauron. He needs to go. three 7-9 seasons in a row
January 6th, 2009 at 10:54 AM
Of course, he’ll get better, but no way is he the Heisman favorite going into next year. That’s just crazy.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:54 AM
One good long pass dropped early. One good screen pass. Tons of pass thrown way too short. Countless great escapes from the pocket that lead to positive yards. Good game for a true freshman, but there’s ZIPPY chance Pryor goes into next season as a Hiesman leader.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:55 AM
*passes
/my wonderlic scores struggle
January 6th, 2009 at 10:58 AM
Oh yeah, I don’t know many OSU fans are expecting Heisman cred next year. I don’t see us beating USC. We’re targeting TP’s junior year as a “look out” season.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:58 AM
mccoy blows? 41-49 for 400+ and the gw drive and he blows?
January 6th, 2009 at 10:58 AM
He is like a suicidal pit bull? That is quite a statement to make.
Oh, and TP needs to be able to throw better that 5/14 for 66 Yards to be a leading Heisman candidate.
January 6th, 2009 at 10:58 AM
same thing was said about tebow…
January 6th, 2009 at 11:02 AM
In a normal year, Tebow probably doesn’t win the Heisman. But a combination of not having any other real contenders and hi record breaking TD totals culminated in his taking home the trophy. I just see too many good players, especially QB’s, coming back next year.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:02 AM
same thing was said about tebow…
But Tebow didn’t run out of bounds 3yds short of the 1st down for no reason. I felt like Pryor was forcing himself to throw the ball at times last night with hopes of weakening his “running QB” image. Certainly, that was the case on the 3rd down play in the redzone.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:05 AM
Shady McCoy announced he’s coming back next year – he’ll likely get some preseason Heisman hype (but doesn’t stand a chance unless Pitt gets a QB to help him).
January 6th, 2009 at 11:06 AM
stop right there…
TEBOW WAS A BACKUP WHO ONLY PLAYED IN GOAL-LINE SITUATIONS HIS FROSH YEAR.
so tebow, really, didn’t do shit and he turned into the heisman winner.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:07 AM
It’s funny that TP ran out of bounds three different times last night.. if you watched him last year (something tells me this board doesn’t exactly plan their weekends arounds OSU-Northwestern).. he took db’s head on.. was stiff arming guys to the ground, and was critized by announcers for not getting out of bounds.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:07 AM
really? so not only was mc fadden not robbed, but he wasn’t even a legit contender?
January 6th, 2009 at 11:08 AM
You Stop!
/childish’d
January 6th, 2009 at 11:08 AM
im sorry, 59 (!) passes
January 6th, 2009 at 11:09 AM
The key for OSU will be convincing the voters that they deserve another BCS Bowl shot. 3 straight losses (2 of them National Title shots) doesn’t sound good.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:10 AM
You can write this down: Pryor will not win the Heisman next year unless the Bucks go undefeated and are in the national championship game. Playing USC will be detrimental to all of those things.
Also, McCoy threw rainbows and lollipops all night as Texas’ line got manhandled; the Longhorns got lucky that Ohio State failed to play Tresselball (grind clock and kick the winning FG at the end) when they really needed to.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:10 AM
Ken Pom actually has started tracking what CBs are targeted. Malcolm Jenkins, as a % of passes attempted, was thrown at less than any CB in the nation!
January 6th, 2009 at 11:11 AM
Anything mentioned about the security of tOSU’s offensive coordinator yet?
January 6th, 2009 at 11:14 AM
didn’t/doesn’t seem to hurt oklahoma…and they’ve had FAR worse losses than the buckeyes (USC, west fuckin’ virginia, boise state).
funny how nobody EVER brings that up.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:18 AM
Nice try Nick
January 6th, 2009 at 11:19 AM
LBB: This guy?
Also, and Spencer can correct me, but Tressel calls 75% of the plays, and there’s no way he goes anywhere by another other than his own volition barring a losing season. None.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:20 AM
yea…tressel makes the calls, but that shouldn’t leave bollman off the hook.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:22 AM
No one said Pryor couldn’t win it. We said he won’t be the preseason favorite which is what TBL said. Tebow wasn’t the preseason favorite.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:25 AM
never click on Nick’s links again.

funny how nobody EVER brings that up.
Because Oklahoma hasn’t had their conference fall back from the others and because only one of those losses (the USC one) was for a National Title.
Bet you that if OU loses on Thursday that it’ll be a major talking point though.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:27 AM
well, yea, of course, esp with mccoy and, perhaps, teboner coming back.
i should apologize for coming off as a huge ass this AM…ive had the morning from hell.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:28 AM
Spence, is there a way Tressel can right any of the misfortunes of previous seasons, or buy some more time?
January 6th, 2009 at 11:28 AM
Unless Pryor gets a hot girlfriend, I don’t see how you can consider him for the Heisman.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:30 AM
well, they did lose another NC to LSU, if that counts.
still…it’s pretty gross that oklahoma chokes year in and out, yet because the big xii can’t play defense so everyone puts up pinball numbers, they get overrated consistently. im not defending OSU here, but oklahoma is just as bad, and in my opinion, losing to WVU and boise and getting blown out worse than OSU ever did by USC, makes them far worse.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:30 AM
I said that last night and I am still baffled by the last two play calls.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:32 AM
JB didn’t you see my comment? That should have been a hint
January 6th, 2009 at 11:33 AM
Wear it, JB.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:33 AM
yea…by getting the overrated seniors out of there (done) and go back to playing ridiculous defense and running the ball to hell and back.
im not going to lie, i love lil animal and jenkins, but boone and the rest of that OL had no business playing at a school like OSU. mike adams, jb shuggarts, and another year of mike brewster will make a world of difference right off the bat.
tressel’s biggest shortcoming is being loyal to “team” guys who suck.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:34 AM
Pryor will be lucky to be 1st team Big 10 next year let alone the front runner for the ESPHeisman. Yeah, the kid can run around but Scott Bakula has a better throwing motion than TP.
/Necessary Roughness’d
January 6th, 2009 at 11:35 AM
oh…and lance, shawn and clown…congrats on the win last night. it was a helluva game.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:39 AM
arkbadger,
For a RB to win the Heisman it’s apparently going to take something exceptional. McFadden was legitimate, but his season was pretty similar to Shonn Greene’s this year.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:39 AM
spence: I ran across the house and hugged my dad when cosby made that catch and ran it in.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:39 AM
Spence, I feel bad that we cost them a shot at an AP national title.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:47 AM
im going to adopt a pet cat, name it quan cosby, then let my dog maul it just to keep my sanity.
cursed…do you really?
January 6th, 2009 at 11:49 AM

And no doubt they should be getting the same stick as OSU.
BTW, I don’t the Fiesta Bowl loss to Boise State is seen more as Boise winning that Oklahoma losing.
January 6th, 2009 at 11:53 AM
Diesel, No I was actually thinking Nick was being serious. I guess i deserved it.
I hope Oklahoma loses thursday night I wanna see how everyone feels after Bob Stoops loses another big game.
January 6th, 2009 at 12:07 PM
Is Sports Hernia the screen grabber any relation to Mr. Banana Grabber? He should make sure to keep the animation rights.
