The Grizzlies Re-Sign Darius Miles
NBA January 10th. 2009, 11:45am
A day after Blazers’ team President Larry Miller sent out a league-wide e-mail threatening to sue any team that signed Darius Miles, the Grizzlies went out and did just that. Miles was waived by the Grizzlies on Tuesday.
“Our purpose here was not in any way to keep Darius from being able to play,†Miller said Friday in a conference call with reporters. “If he can come back and help a team to win and play at a level on the court that helps the team, we have no problem with that at all.
“We were hearing a lot of rumblings and rumors that there were teams out there planning to sign Darius Miles specifically and maliciously to hurt our organization. This was our way of responding to that and letting folks know that we were not going to take it sitting down.€
Right. Well, on behalf of the entire NBA – suck it, Portland.
Did they just expect Miles to stay on his couch when he fully recovered from knee surgery? Phoenix and Cleveland have been among the teams to voice their lack of amusement with the threat of litigation. One Western Conference GM even said, “They’re daring someone to sign him now.€ Well, the Memphis Grizzlies fear not your litigation. Enjoy the cap ramifications.

It’s not the business of the other teams in the NBA to worry about Portland’s cap. If he’s healthy, what did they expect Miles to do, shoot “The Perfect Score II”?

or Van Wilder III: Even Wilderer.

I like his Wiki account:
Did Miles break into a school to get the SAT answers?

D-Miles: Those freak honies from Mount Holy Oak, gon’ be there?
Van Wilder: They would. If they weren’t busy humping the Matadors.

actually, it IS in the interest of other teams to F with Portland’s cap. they could be a player in free agency if Miles isn’t picked up. not to mention, Miles is garbage, who would use him?
i can see the headlines now if the Eagles win: PHILLY’s back! Flyers in 1st, Eagles in NFC Champinoship, Phillies won the WOrld SEries. usa today cover on mon or tues, me thinks.

What agent in their right mind would want their client to go to Portland and never be heard from again, Oden not withstanding. No real national play or endorsements.

i can see the headlines now if the Eagles LOSE: PHILLY’s fucked! Flyers will start losing now after fast start, Dump Mcnabb & Reid after Eagles choke away Super Bowl chances, Phillies will never repeat with Ibanez and Moyer as only off-season signings. Philly Inquirer cover on mon or tues, me thinks

oh – since we’re on the Grizz … was covering HS hoops back in like 2000 or 01 and randy foye was a jr. in HS. the team i was covering was in the state semis and playing foye’s team. (team i was covering had a bunch of tough inner city kids, one pG who went to NJIT and a center who went to Rider).
i had read about foye, but never seen him. guy was AWESOME. they couldn’t solve a zone, and so in the second half foye just took over. he made it look so effortless, just gliding around defenders and hitting floater after floater in the lane. basically would do it all by himself and got his team back in the game. foye’s team wound up losing.
fun times

team on the rise. roy and aldridge are stars.
should be in the playoffs, assuming they stay healthy, for the next decade. yup, i mean that.

TBL: not disputing they might be a team on the rise, but who cares about Portland? Think the “national media” is going to send anyone on a 14 hour plane trip to see one of their games? The last time Portland was relevant was when Bill Walton was shuffling down the court on those bad feet and burning all the tree he could in the Pacific Northwest in the late ’70’s.
color me a non-believer of them becoming a national story. Hell, the Seahawks made the Super Bowl and the Supersonics moved and no one outside of there cared.

You mean Clyde, Porter and Duckworth (yes, I know that he died) weren’t relevant?

Clyde Drexler’s dead? Damn.

Wally:
Clyde: relevant w/ the Phi Slamma Jamma reunion tour in Houston
Porter: This Porter is relevant. The other one, not so much
3. Duckworth: He’s like Heath Ledger: More popular now (at least @ TBL) in death then anythin he did in Portland.

@jpq1999: Well, the NBA seems to think it important enough to put Portland on national tv 13 times this season, which is 10th most in the NBA for a team that hasn’t made the playoffs in 5 years. Plus, there is plenty of national media interest in the young blazers team. If the team wins, people will care, and if they win a lot people will care a ton.
