Tim Tebow Reminds Whitlock of … Mike Vick?
1-liner, Jason Whitlock, Race January 12th. 2009, 2:00pmWhite Athletes: Two lines from this Whitlock piece on the resurgence of the white athlete jump out at us. “For the past few years we’ve watched a number of white kids dominate college basketball. Tyler Hansbrough is this year’s leading candidate for player of the year.” Really? If few = three, then he must mean Adam Morrison and UF’s Lee Humphrey in 2006 (reach), we can’t find anyone in 2007, and we’ll give him Kevin Love and Hansbrough in 2008. “Dominate” seems excessive. “Watching Tebow run, throw awkwardly and display his emotions for all to see did not conjure images of Peyton Manning. Tebow looked more like Michael Vick.” Now that’s interesting. (KC Star)

He even says it’s a underdeveloped thought, so I don’t really have a prob with the article. Lazy, somewhat…but you gotta take the good with the bad in Whitlock.

As we speak, there are middle-aged suburban white guys teaching their awkward, unathletic sons to throw a few elbows, make it look like you run like the wind, and smile a lot. If things go well, they too could grow up and become an NBA power forward like Hansbrough or an NFL defensive end like Jared Allen, because, when the dads were growing up, they knew there would never be a successful white DE or PF.

I would probably pay money to listen to Thom Brennaman and Charles Davis announcing Tebow running a dog fighting ring.
These dogs, though they may be slaughtered, have to just be thankful that TEBOW would deem them worthy of combat.

Tebow is white and Vick is black, so comparing the two is irresponsible journalism.

Really, white athletes are doing better because black guys are in jail. Kind of a backhanded compliment

That’s what jumped out at me when I read this Sunday. He was all over the place with this column.

Too many young black men are rotting in jail.

Why don’t they just arrest all the young black men? Then we will dominate again!

For someone who talks about the black community, always highlighting the Negative points, his fat ass better be involved in the community trying to help some of these young brothas out. Dont just talk about the problem try to help the youth out. He could be doing this now but I dont know, I typed in “Whitlock Community” in Google and got “Denial is the black community’s number 1 problem” by Jason Whitlock. Go fuck yourself.

The Vick comparison is kind of odd, the only thing I can agree with is throwing awkwardly. Otherwise they are a different kind of “running” QB and Vick was never hailed as a son of God type leader of football players.

He was the face of Big Brothers in KC for several years. Not sure if he does that anymore.

Denial is the black community’s number 1 problem
I thought Jordan took that name?
/made hundreds of millions selling overpriced sneakers to inner-city kids who couldn’t afford them, and have never heard his name mentioned in connection with a charity

jpq- You could say the same thing about the Real Estate Industry.
Lies.

5% of every pair of Jordans sold goes to the Human Fund.

Tampa: true re Real Estate & Banks
I give it up to Magic Johnson, at least trying to do things in the cities. I know he’s made a ton (and probably recently just lost) of money, but at least he’s out in front opening stores and employing people.
Even Tiger is doing a lot with his foundation, and he (and Nike) made all of his money selling his stuff to (mainly) old rich white guys. With Jordan, Nike created an insatiable demand for a product that is unaffordable for a large part of its market

Dominate? Really?
Who won it all last year? Wasn’t it Kansas with Mario Chalmers and Brandon Rush, both black? And who they beat? UCLA with little know PG Derrick Rose. Meanwhile all the Draft talk was about guys like OJ Mayo and Michael Beasley.
And wasn’t all the talk the year before that about OSU and Greg Oden and Mike Conley. OR it was about Florida and Al Horford, Joakim Noah and Corey Brewer.
So what exactly is Big Sexy going on about? Is it that 3 white boys (Morrison, Reddick and now Hansbrough) have gotten a lot of media (read: ESPN) love? Doesn’t that have as much to do with the programs they went to/go than skin color?
January 12th, 2009 at 2:50 PM
BTW, I meant Memphis up there with Derrick Rose. Not UCLA.
irish would have me skinned…if he could reply.

Jpq- Jordan had done a lot of stuff for the Chicago community during his career.
