The Detroit Lions Are on the Clock, But it Doesn’t Look Like Sam Bradford Will Be an Option
College Football January 14th. 2009, 6:00pm
So do you think Sam Bradford isn’t flipping for the Detroit Lions (ha!) or do you think his unimpressive BCS showing last week had some folks in his ear, advising him to stick around for one more year?
Tomorrow is the deadline for underclassmen to decide if they want to stay in school, and the Tulsa World is reporting that not only is Bradford staying, but so are all of their All-American non-seniors Jermaine Gresham (tight end), Trent Williams (offensive lineman), and Gerald McCoy (defensive tackle), who announced his intentions earlier this week.
Sounds like a bunch of Sooners really feel bad that they couldn’t get Bob Stoops a title, and even though they’ll need new WRs and a new left side of the line, Chokelahoma figures to be right back in the national title picture next season (along with Oklahoma State and Texas).
Should we predict right now that Oklahoma scores over 60 points five times in the regular season, and lays an egg in a BCS bowl game? It’s destiny.
With the first pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select … Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia.

I gotta ask, what the hell is Mark Sanchez doing declaring for the draft?

Bradford is staying. Just listened to his press conference on the way home.

Matthew Stafford: The least happy #1 overall pick since Elisha.

bradford and tebow have nothing to gain. tebow needs pro instruction and bradford can’t do anything but hurt his status. good article in si.com by ross tucker saying all 1st day (projected) jrs. should declare.

I agree, but Mitch Mustain must be thrilled. That guy was going to be Chris Wenke’s age before he got a shot at starting.

looks like the big 12 south will be the best conf in the country again next yr. (just kidding, sort of)

@shawnfromtex – Bradford has nothing to gain? He would be playing for the Lions! Short of pulling a John Elway and telling the team that he won’t play for them, period, he’s made a good call.

They sure won’t be if they draft Stafford.

So Colt, Tebow and Bradford are all returning next year? Looks like the Heisman race starts right there.

I think every one of the QB’s that had big years this year will amount to nothing more than clipboard holders in the NFL, and that is saying a lot, because 75% of the QB’s suck now.
Bradford is a stick figure that needs to add 30 lbs of muscle or else he is Brodie Croyle 2.0. Stafford is a rockhead with a good arm but is overrated. Tebow? Already been said.
/overhyped n overrated

So much for Terrelle Pryor being the Heisman frontrunner I guess.
January 14th, 2009 at 6:35 PM
Bold prediction: Josh Freeman will wind up the best NFL QB in this class.
January 14th, 2009 at 6:42 PM
Actualy, TP has a better chance at a Heisman He’ll have a better WR corp on the field.

+1 Ha ha ha, I laughed pretty good.

I’m already choking back vomit by the Big 12 lovefest that will once again ensue. Greatest Offenses EVER!!!
shawnfromtex, that Ross Tucker article was money, your football time is extremely limited, get paid while you can.

The Lions aren’t drafting a QB, at least with the #1. They need offensive linemen. It wouldn’t matter if they had Peyton Manning behind that line. No one could be successful under that much duress.
I could see them going for Stafford if he falls in the first round though. They have the Cowboys #20 and 3rd Rounder they could package to move up.

Bring. Back. Fontes.

In Manning’s defense, his line as it’s currently composed really sucks, but he still gets by. That’s why they threw underneath and out of the backfield all year. He was getting killed earlier in the year before his mobility returned. For as big and “unathletic” as both he and Tom Brady are, they certainly help their lines out quite a bit with their ability to feel pressure and move in the pocket. Big Ben wishes he could say the same.

@Cursed
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…..jesus christ I know you are an Ohio St homer but good lord, that was a lie even before Hartline left early
January 15th, 2009 at 8:14 AM
He didn’t say he had a good chance…just that he now has a better chance given he’ll have a better WR corps. Hartline blows.

#1. Detroit Lions — Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech.
hehehehe
