Gotta Love the Coaches and Their Egos
1-liner, NFL January 15th. 2009, 11:45amThe Ego on Coaches: Even though Eli Manning and Brandon Jacobs of the Giants strongly hinted that they’d welcome Plaxico Burress back, Giants coach Tom Couglin wouldn’t go that far, saying “We need to sit down and think about it and talk about that and to see what the circumstance might be.” Funny thing about coaches – they seem to think two things about problem players: A) I can get them to clean up their act! and B) Oh, he’s suspended? No problem, we can win without him! (NY Post)

I would hope Coughlin has more input on personnel decisions than Manning and Jacobs; the ego on them is more like it.

This reminds me of the reverse Eagles’ 2003/2004 situation. When TO went down for the playoffs McNabb kept saying “we can win with the rest of our guys” (this pissed off Owens because he’s an emotional midget, of course).
Reid seemed calm, but his comments praised TO and said his guys had to step up big time.
/sorry for bring up TO

Jerry Reese is not bringing him back. Eli and Jacobs probably ought to change their tune soon before the NY media starts feeding a new “players versus management” angle.

Doesn’t the warden have to let him out first, before we talk about him coming back already?

What do you want the coach to say – “We’re screwed!” that would go over well with the fans and the press, never mind his bosses.

I don’t understand, is the coach supposed to say A) He’s a lost cause. and B) We’re probably fucked. That doesn’t make any sense.
