I’ll be bowling tonight, but I should be home in time for the 2-hour LOST season premiere at 9pm. TBL will be back tomorrow and I’m sure he’ll have a lengthy discussion post where he wonders aloud why the island wasn’t moved to a high school.
If Network-Sanctioned-SciFI-Mind-Effing isn’t your thing, there’s a full slate of NBA games on tonight, but none of them will be on TNT or ESPN so you’ll just have to settle for some college basketball. Not that anyone would complain. ESPN and ESPN2 both have double-headers tonight. Both double-headers feature ranked teams. Did I mention UNC is playing!? Oh, boy!

I’ve never seen How I Met Your Mother, probably because I always assume those CBS comedies suck. I hear a lot of good things about it though.
The Office, and recently 30 Rock are the funniest shows on tv (IMHO)
Only other shows I like seem to be on cable.

How I Met Your Mother is good, but the point you’re trying to make is completely useless because neither Lost or FNL is a comedy and Gossip Girl only qualifies for that distinction of the unintentional variety. I’m sorry we’re not cool enough for you, though.
Now that I’ve picked my pride back up, other than Lost my picks for the best current shows on TV are:
Drama: Mad Men, Friday Night Lights, Breaking Bad, Battlestar Galactica and Big Love
Comedy: 30 Rock, The Office, How I Met Your Mother, Flight of the Conchords and Curb Your Enthusiasm
There are some good shows out there, but it’s been a bad couple years for TV as far as quality shows going off the air. The Wire, The Shield, Rome, etc. Though Breaking Bad has the potential to be fantastic if AMC handles it right.

I think FOTC is going to struggle big time this season unless it becomes more Murray based. The guys don’t have any new material to base the shows around and thats what made the show for me in season 1.
I’m a little biased since I’ve seen them in concert before they became big, but I do love Murray.

Fuck me, I completely spaced on It’s Always Sunny. I think 30 Rock is better, but It’s Always Sunny is very close and certainly superior to the American version of The Office. The UK version of The Office is, naturally, better than all of them I’ve mentioned. Gervais owns any American comedian.

I watch 30 Rock and Its Always Sunny but I think Its Always Sunny is much much funnier. I will concede that 30 Rock is probably better written, but the characters on Its Always Sunny always make me laugh while at times I find Jenna and Tracey on 30 Rock to be annoying.

Why is Djimon Honsou in so many shitty movies? Other than In America and Blood Diamond, everything he’s done since Amistad has been shit. I guess Gladiator was okay, extremely overrated, but not bad.

Not as bad as their opening loss to Howard who is currently at 3-14 and one of the worst teams in the MEAC.
To say the program was in shambles is a disgrace to shambles. Last year they were the first team in Pac-10 history to go 0-18 in conference. It was an embarrassment. They brought in CJ Giles (KC and fetch may remember him) only to dismiss him for being a piece of garbage (skipping practices, being a general douchebag).
The coaching search last spring was ugly too. Several coaches refused the job or turned down interviews. I mean, we are talking small conference coaches (WCC, primarily). Craig Robinson was probably their 5th or so choice. The local media reported it as an embarrassment. Now Robinson has one of the top recruiting classes in the conference (currently two four-stars and one three-star) for 2009 and the team won their first Pac-10 game in 23 (I believe) tries. They still have virtually no talent but they play hard and are sometimes competitive. It’s a leap from where they were a year ago.

It was a hail mary by the (now dismissed) coach. He knew the team needed some talent. All the stories before he started playing were about how he had turned his life around after being dismissed from Kansas. That, of course, went to shit fairly quickly. I believe the Lakers gave him a sniff in Summer League and/or preseason. Not sure where he’s at now.

TBL still thinks Duke is a three point shooting team (which he proves by citing 1 game, ignoring season stats, but hey, he’s objective), ignores their ridiculous defense (I mean, offense wins championships amrite?), and generally takes Mariottish shots at Duke whenever he can (even if they’re 2 weeks late).
If this was a romantic comedy, he’s about 2 weeks from breaking down and confessing his undying love for Coach K.

Actually some people did a study and found that in college basketball teams that are great offensively during the regular season but poor defensively during the regular season do better in the NCAA Tournament rather than the other way around.

Carmody has some talent to play his Princeton offense in Evanston this year. They beat the shit out of Florida State earlier in the year. They’ve really only been blasted twice all year. They have had a chance to win every other game, but haven’t pulled it out. They will be an absolute bitch to play the rest of the season in the Big 10 strictly due to the style.
