How is David Price Not No. 1?
1-liner, Baseball January 26th. 2009, 11:00amRanking MLB Prospects: A bit stunned that Tampa’s David Price isn’t rated No. 1 by ESPN’s Keith Law. What’s interesting is that there’s only one Boston prospect and one New York Met prospect in the Top 25; the highest Yankee is Austin Jackson at 46. For those scoring at home, the No. 1 guy in 2008 was Evan Longoria (duh) and Colby Rasmus of the Cards was the only Top 10 player not to have an impact in the Bigs. (ESPN)

I’ll have to write on Keith Law’s Wall about this.

Wieters should be #1, but that list is all kinds of awful.

I’d just go Price since he’s actually accomplished shit in the majors

is he really a “prospect” then? He already has Big Show experience.

sponge: most people use the 50 IP cutoff.
Oh, and no way no how should Fernando Martinez even sniff the top 25. He’s probably not even a top 50 guy.

The Astros have such an embarrassing farm system. Even after they recognized how depleted it became, they went out and had what law describes as the worst draft ever. Uncle Drayton refused to pay a player above his designated slot amount even if he was worth the extra cash. Maybe they’re too busy getting turned down by Randy Wolf for $28mm over 3 years to be concerned about the (better) economics of building a team through talent development

that list needs more matt laporta.
oh, and if i haven’t said this enough, i’d really like to thank the dodgers for “throwing in” carlos santana along with john meloan for half of a season of casey blake. that was really generous.

I know, I just always thought that was dumb. You’re a rookie if you haven’t played at all, otherwise your aren’t.

toss in the astros signing a known steroid user days before the mitchell report, and you’ve got a big bucket of fail

Price is fantastic. But a sparking September/October call up shouldn’t affect their overall ceiling—which is what this list is about.
I would put Anderson higher by a spot, and Smoak a little higher. I’d drop McCutchen a few spots.
Of people in his 26-100, Matt Dominguez still could be fantastic in my eyes.
Klaw obviously has seen these guys infinitely more than I have, overall, (as I’ve only seen 20 or so of those guys play) so I cede to him and any other baseball prospect list maker.

The Matt Wieters Era has finally arrived in Baltimore. Thank God.

Justin Smoak is going to be a million bazillion times better than Lars Anderson.

Fuck you. Jesus Christ, love the dodgers giving more for Casey Blake than the Brew crew did for CC. How does Ned Colletti still have a job?
