TJ Simers Makes Sure the Door Hits Crying Jeff Kent on the Way Out
1-liner, Baseball January 28th. 2009, 11:00amJeff Kent: Nobody does an athlete takedown in print quite like TJ Simers. “No question Kent was as bright as they come, a wonderful departure from Gary Matthews Jr. and Kevin Brown, the stern demeanor a mask to hide the beating heart, but in the end not enough to disguise the brooding contempt he had for folks who did not look, act or think like him. It became apparent that Kent really did go to the same old school as Archie Bunker, and while just as full of bluster and appealing, inexplicably too often just a Meathead.” (LA Times)

Interesting read, but it’s the classic case of “Sportwriter takes out vendetta on hated player by comparing said player to people with real problems.” Classic, classic case.

Giants fans will tell you that players on that team LOVED Barry Bonds compared to Jeff Kent, and in fact were all on Bonds’ side when he and Kent got into that infamous choking match in the dugout.
