If fat, mouthy David Wells has issues with Joe Torre’s book, fine. Everyone’s entitled to an opinion. But to mention “The Code” as his argument? Oh no he did-int:

“What we do as athletes, that’s our problem, our business, and a lot of guys have come out and destroyed that,” Wells said. “That’s why they don’t have any friends. You just don’t do that, and that’s what Joe did. When you break the code, you’re a punk.”

The code: Hurting sports since forever. [Full disclosure: Haven't read the book.] The truth hurts too bad, so let’s just bury it and never talk about it, and never give the fans – many of whom worship the sport – a true glimpse of what really is going on.

Which is why we find all this bashing of the Torre book laughable. We’ve heard yahoos calling into radio stations talking about how some of the passages “damage” his legacy.

Why?

Since when is speaking the truth punishable by never getting invited back to Old Timer’s Day? Alex Rodriguez had a kid fetching his coffee. Brian Cashman was difficult to work with. What’s the big deal? We want the curtain pulled back.

And here with thought this juvenile fan behavior was limited to clueless college basketball and college football fans.

Pathetic.
