Cool Project: If NBA Teams Were Formed Based on Where the Players Were From
NBA February 4th. 2009, 2:15pm
You’d think that major cities like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles produced the best basketball players, right? Not quite. Depressed Fan spent some time sifting through rosters to find out where in the US players are from, and put together teams based on geography. Big fun!
The top teams appeared to be: Charlotte (KG, CP3, Ray Allen, Josh Howard), Portland (Roy, Stuckey, Marvin Williams, Carlos Boozer), Washington DC (Beasley, Durant, Iverson, Melo), Orlando (Vince Carter, T-Mac, Amare), New Orleans (Granger, Monta Ellis, Mo Williams, Al Jefferson), and Dallas (Aldridge, Deron Williams, Chris Bosh)
It’s a pretty neat exercise if you’re an NBA fan. Kobe’s Philly team and LeBron’s Cleveland team are decent, but not quite on the level as the teams listed above. Just for kicks, we’ll throw in an international team that could compete with any US city: C Gasol, PF Dirk, SF Turkoglu, SG Rudy Fernandez, PG Jose Calderon.

this guy must be a walking Cymbalta commercial! How long (and why!) did this take to do? Who cares?
Maybe he can tell me what city has the most accountants? The most tool makers? This must be on an endless loop in his basement

This is how teams will form after the impending collapse of the U.S. government/infrastructure. Only that the “teams” will “be roving bands of cannibals” and instead of “playing basketball” they will “rape and eat the weak.”

Jose Calderon over Steve Nash huh?
February 4th, 2009 at 2:28 PM
Need depth. Could add Kosta Koufos and move Posey to the 6th man. Either way, this is CRM’s favorite team.

February 4th, 2009 at 2:29 PM

February 4th, 2009 at 2:32 PM
I would take Manu over Turk and Rudy.
February 4th, 2009 at 2:32 PM
I thought Carlos Boozer was from Alaska, not Portland.
February 4th, 2009 at 2:33 PM
Read the “rules” they guy used, Boozer is from Alaska

February 4th, 2009 at 2:46 PM

February 4th, 2009 at 2:47 PM
Get rid of Booth and put Koufos on there.
David West is from Ohio, too. As is Antonio Daniels.
February 4th, 2009 at 2:49 PM
Nevermind on D-X. He sucks anyway.
February 4th, 2009 at 2:50 PM
put Rashard Lewis on the New Orleans team and its over. He was born outside of NO
February 4th, 2009 at 2:51 PM
New Orleans
C – Al Jefferson
PF – Tyrus Thomas
SF – Danny Granger
SG – Monta Ellis
PG – Mo Williams
That’s a solid little team. Add bench guys like Chris Duhon and Big Baby Davis and PJ Brown and you could make some noise in the playoffs.

Aallllll….Staaaaaarrrr….
How many Cavs in the ASG besides LeBron?
February 4th, 2009 at 2:53 PM
Pacers would be good in a couple of years… Courtney Lee (Magic), George Hill (Spurs), Connoly (Memphis), Katie Stam (Miss America)

Detroit.

Including players from Fresno as hometown players for either the Bay Area or Sacramento is weak. High school teams in Fresno are included in the “southern section” of in the state basketball playoffs.
February 4th, 2009 at 2:55 PM
There have been a lot of shitty, undeserving All-Stars in the past. Add David to that list.
February 4th, 2009 at 2:57 PM
Does Oregon actually have any players from that state (Dunleavy)? If Seattle still had a team it would have all of those Portland players.
February 4th, 2009 at 2:59 PM
SEATTLE SONICS (I refuse to let Portland steal Seattle’s shine):
G Jamal Crawford
G Brandon Roy
F Marvin Williams
F Martell Webster
C Spencer Hawes
Bench:
Rodney Stuckey
Aaron Brooks
Nate Washington
Jason Terry
Pretty damn good team.

Where’ve you been, man?
February 4th, 2009 at 3:04 PM
I been around, checking out the scene from a comfortable distance.
February 4th, 2009 at 3:15 PM
The Florida team would win the “most dunks in a season” contest hands down. Utah and Sac-town sucks.
February 4th, 2009 at 3:16 PM
Why is Paul Milsap on the Rockets and he is from LA he should be on the team with the Hornets.
The Philly Team aint bad either with Jameer Nelson, Rip, Kobe and Sheed. Me thinks TBL downplayed them just a little.
February 4th, 2009 at 3:17 PM
Nate Washington ? he just won a superbowl… and he is from Ohio.
nate robinson wants to know why you left him off the Sonics…
February 4th, 2009 at 5:16 PM
Would Kobe be on the international team?
February 5th, 2009 at 9:56 AM
Also Rodney Carney, Greg Oden, Josh McRoberts, Eric Gordon
