Department of Frauds: Jennifer Figge
1-liner, Frauds February 12th. 2009, 12:00pmFraud: Hopefully, nobody believed a word about the tale of the 56-year-old who claimed to have swam about 2,700 miles across the Atlantic Ocean in 24 days. Now she has backtracked on all of it, and might as well have swam a couple dozen laps at the local Y. Noteworthy: “Figge swam behind a catamaran, protected from sharks by a 20-foot-by-13-foot cage that rested partly below the water … Whales literally came up to her. She swam with dolphins some days. There were also Portugese men-o-war that chased her back into the boat.” (Sun-Times)

How is she a fraud? She never claimed she swam the whole way.
To her credit, Figge never said she was going to swim the whole way. Her manager, David Higden, told the Guardian Newspaper in London that that would be physically impossible or would take years.

Media’s fault for being so happy that there was a ‘feel good story’ that they failed to fact check before running headlines that she swam across the ocean.
As an aside, Campbell Brown is a cunt.

Dude, KC quoted the article YOU posted in which it is stated that she did not claim to swim the whole distance, and that the media exaggerated the facts. Not sure where you’re getting 2700 from either, as the second link you just gave noted that it was 2100.

She’s not a fraud. Not surprisingly, this one’s on the media.

Okay I see the 2700 in the Sun article, not sure which is right.
