Ballin’: The Nuggets Slide Continues
NBA March 9th. 2009, 10:00am
Denver 106, Sacramento 114: That’s seven losses in 10 games for the Nuggets, who let the lowly Kings shoot 51 percent and make 14 three’s. The end result is that Denver fell out of first in the Northwest and slipped from being the 3rd seed in the West to the 7th. Remember when they were playing defense? That’s about as ancient as the days of Alex English and Fat Lever. This is one of our favorite jerseys from the 80s.
Utah 109, Toronto 101: That’s 11 in a row for the Jazz, who are becoming a sexy pick to meet up with the Lakers in the Western Conference finals. So what if Boozer sat out with an ankle sprain – Millsap filled in with 19-11. For the first time since Feb. 6, Deron Williams didn’t have double figures in assists (nine). RuPaul had 30-10 for the lottery-bound Raptors.
New York 101, New Jersey 106: You usually don’t lose when you make 51 percent from the field and sink 11 three’s, but the Knicks inability struggled offensively down the stretch and fell 3.5 games out of the mix for the 8th playoff spot. Devin Harris had 35 for the Nets, who are a game back of Chicago and half a game behind Milwaukee for the 8th seed.
Phoenix 98, San Antonio 103: Tony Parker’s got to finish in the top five for MVP voting. He’s carried the team at times without Manu and Duncan and weathered the curse of the celebrity wife. Sunday, he ran circles around Steve Nash for 30 points, including 22 in the second half.
Orlando 86, Boston 79: The Magic nearly a huge lead go to waste, but Ray Allen’s three in the final minute – over the outstretched arms of Superman – missed, and Orlando escaped with a nice road win. No KG or Rajon Rondo for Boston, which rallied to make it interesting when Allen went for 17 of his 32 in the fourth.

Dwight only played 28 minutes because of foul trouble. nice comeback by the Celtics
March 9th, 2009 at 10:08 AM
Not having Rondo is the bigger deal.
Only 2.5 games separate the #3 seed (Houston) from the #8 seed (Dallas) in the West.
March 9th, 2009 at 10:11 AM
Thank you, Orlando.
March 9th, 2009 at 10:12 AM
Also helps when Powe/Davis/Perkins play like the pieces of shit they really are, not the studs they pretended to be Fri night.
March 9th, 2009 at 10:13 AM
They go on a four-game road trip this week at Indy, Atl, Miami, and Orlando. So we’ll see if Utah (12-17 on the road) is for real.
March 9th, 2009 at 10:17 AM
Agree, though their problem wasn’t interior defense or rebounding. Howard only scored 18 and Boston outrebounded Orlando 44-36. Boston only had 10 assists to 17 turnovers and only had 2 steals all game. Rondo is the guy that makes Boston go.
March 9th, 2009 at 10:19 AM
The 4Q offense for Orlando was pretty bad. I counted 8 or 9 straight possessions where Dwight didn’t get a touch. They really need to go inside-out if they want to shoot 3s. Throwing it around the perimeter and then gunning is easily defended.

That’s seven losses in 10 games for the Nuggets
Hopefully this continues tonight against the Rockets
March 9th, 2009 at 10:26 AM
@nick – The Cavs offense was terrible Friday night against the Celtics
March 9th, 2009 at 10:29 AM
@irish: No shit.
Also.
March 9th, 2009 at 10:31 AM
I could give a rats ass about basketball, but did the AI trade make both teams worse?
March 9th, 2009 at 10:33 AM
No it made the Nuggets better
March 9th, 2009 at 10:34 AM
Iverson is the new Ewing.
/Simmons’d
March 9th, 2009 at 10:37 AM
thanks for the standings news Nick
March 9th, 2009 at 10:42 AM
+1 for Fat Lever reference.
March 9th, 2009 at 10:47 AM
Cavs are 2-5 against the NBA’s big 3.
March 9th, 2009 at 10:49 AM
i was being sarcastic with my comment towards Nick
March 9th, 2009 at 10:52 AM
At what point did they play themselves?
Good to see that Marbury signing working out for you Boston, dude is terrible. Like can barely even hit the rim terrible.
March 9th, 2009 at 10:52 AM
regular season doesn’t mean shit, if they were 2-5 against em in the playoffs, that’d be a different story.
just wait before you bury the cavs.
eh, who am i kidding…pile on.
March 9th, 2009 at 10:53 AM
they were also 2-0 against SAS the yr they played them in the finals and we all know how that ended
March 9th, 2009 at 10:55 AM
It’s actually 1-5. And just two of those games were at home. I’m not too worried about securing the #1.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:05 AM
Big 3 meaning LA, Boston, ???
2-5 against Bos, LA and SA is impossible when Cle has played them 6 times. Replace SA with Orlando, same thing.
Clown your inability to add makes you seem retarded. Apologies if you are.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:05 AM
Nah, that’s T-Mac.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:11 AM
Yeah, my bad on giving the Cavs an extra win. Could’ve sworn they’ve fluked their way to more than one victory against a non-scrub team.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:12 AM
Home court is getting blown out of proportion. In playoffs, Boston can win in Cle and Cle can win in Boston. The bigger x-factor is whether David Stern wants a LeBron/Kobe Finals or a Celtics/Lakers rematch. Either way Spurs are getting fucked by the refs.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:19 AM
Hasn’t happened in the last 15 meetings b/w the two teams.
Fluked our way to 49 so far. Will fluke our way to 16 when the playoffs start.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:19 AM
SA gets as many calls at home as Boston or LA.
Yes, 48 of the Cavs wins are against “scrub” teams. Brilliant.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:25 AM
Okay, they’ve been very successful against teams are not elite. I guess that’s a recipe for success in the playoffs.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:25 AM
Will fluke our way to 16 when the playoffs start
cocky
March 9th, 2009 at 11:28 AM
The Spurs aren’t going to need get f’d by the refs, they are just a very flawed team this year. Age is finally catching up with them, as evidenced by all the injuries. Their supporting cast is weaker than at any time this decade. I have no faith in Roger Mason/Matt Bonner making big 3’s in the playoffs.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:35 AM
duncan + healthy manu by the playoffs + tony longoria = damage out the ass
if bynum doesn’t come back, i like the spurs over the lakers handily.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:39 AM
I know thats a pretty successfully formula spence, but there has always been a ” + clutch 3’s by Kerr/Horry + great all around play from Bowen” that are missing this year.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:41 AM
coop…yea, that’s pretty valid.
but i wouldn’t put it past bowen to still be able to annoy the living shit out of kobe for one more series. if bynum’s not back, that could be the difference as i don’t see pau doing much against duncan the way the big fundamental has been playing this year.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:42 AM
well, that’s a silly thing to say. the lakers are clearly the class of the west.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:42 AM
coop – I agree the Lakers are a better team than Spurs. As for the East, the teams are very evenly matched, so officiating could have a big impact.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:44 AM
what is up Walfredo? Your C’s almost made that comeback
March 9th, 2009 at 11:45 AM
with pau and kobe going 37+ minutes per game, and having to go against the rested spurs, i wouldn’t be so rash.
the spurs have the best playoff resume. the lakers not only choked like dogs against the celts last year, but they flat out gave up like pathetic bitches and what else is there?
and since when do the spurs give a shit about meaningless regular season games? im not saying the lakers can’t win, that’d be foolish, they’re fantastic, but i like the spurs in april and may more than the lake show at this point.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:51 AM
Yeah Irish. Shit. It was nice to see them show some heart. Obviously woulda liked to see them win but tough to stop Orlando yesterday. That’s the best Dwight’s played vs. C’s in some time.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:53 AM
Cavs have beaten every current playoff team except LA and Orlando. One of those teams has to be good, no?
Also, do you think that Z and West not playing against Orlando had something to do with them losing. Easily their 3rd and 4th best players. If Cleveland plays Orlando I would be shocked if Orlando wins more than 1 game.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:58 AM
If Cleveland plays Orlando I would be shocked if Orlando wins more than 1 game
lol. i cant wait. Cocky Cavs fans
March 9th, 2009 at 12:21 PM
/fix’d
March 9th, 2009 at 12:30 PM
yea, because pau and kobe are real spring chickens. and who else on the lakers is worth a shit? injured bynum?
March 9th, 2009 at 12:35 PM
Yeah, Odom didn’t wreck shop on the Cavs in Cleveland or anything.
March 9th, 2009 at 1:05 PM
wow he had one good game and a season otherwise construed of ’suck.’
you really think he’ll do that again? please.
March 9th, 2009 at 1:21 PM
derek fisher, trevor ariza, luke walton, jordan farmar, josh powell….assuming you were going to give me roger mason, bruce bowen, ime udoka, matt bonner, michael finley.
manu hasn’t been healthy in two years but i am sure gregg poppovich can sprinkle some magic dust on those creaky ankles in time for the playoffs. after all, the spurs don’t care about the regular season. they don’t even really try at all. unlike the lakers are well known for primarily caring about the regular season and not the postseason.
March 9th, 2009 at 2:13 PM
Ariza is boss. Fisher, Walton, and especially Powell suck eggs.
Farmar’s decent.
March 9th, 2009 at 6:24 PM
I love excuses from Cavs fans.
