Athletes and Celebrities, College Basketball, Courts, Legal, ESPN, NBA, NFL, NHL, Soccer, Television, Tennis, Video March 13th. 2009, 3:40pm
Happy Friday my office worker friends. I’ll be here this weekend slangin’ blog rocks just like Bodie used to. Until the clock strikes midnight, here’s Bar Rafaeli. She’s endorsing Hurley beachwear. I have to say, that idea is just dumb enough to work.
Anyway, make sure to stop by this weekend and send me lots of tips so I don’t have to work hard or (preferably) at all. I can be reached via Gmail @ alumnigonzo.
Carrie Underwood and Hilary Duff WAGing together? Brilliant. (Sports Crackle Pop)
Maria Sharapova returned to tennis action and boy did she look nice! (Down the Line!)
Zindane thinks Steve Gerrard is the best player in soccer. Let the comments section debate begin! (Unprofessional Foul)
National high school tournament featuring some of the top teams in the nation. (USA Today)
A look at scouting in the D.R. (The Mag)
Court rules home schooling is OK as long as the Bible isn’t the main text book. /generalization’d (WRAL.com)
I say pay the college coaches tons of money – it’s not like the kids are getting it. (Wall Street Journal)
Ambiorix Burgos just doesn’t have the ring of ‘Chris Brown.’ (Daily News)
The UFL is an imposter! If you had any doubts, the columnist took an unwarranted and uneducated shot at Versus and the NHL to prove his point. Also, he assumes Mike Vick isn’t welcome back to the NFL. (Tennessean)
Minka Kelly is going to be on a whole new show I don’t watch in a new CW show. Set your DVR’s! (The Hollywood Reporter via Hot Clicks)
Alexander Ovechkin is so good at hockey he’s the Kobe of the NHL. (Stet Sports Blog)
Former Syracuse player Donte Greene has to deal with popcorn in his car and alleged recruiting violations. (Sacramento Bee)
After the jump… Bill Belichick, Charlie Weis and Bon Jovi performing together. Don’t act like you were anticipating this occurrence. Video courtesy of the oft-imitated, never equaled, Josh Q Public.

Balderdash!
March 13th, 2009 at 4:00 PM
Not to rehash it from this morning’s roundup … but Jon Stewart got a nice pat on the head from Obama’s press secretary on his “interview” with Jim Cramer.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:01 PM
Who the fuck is Zindane?
March 13th, 2009 at 4:01 PM
That’s it Bar, squeeze ‘em together.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:03 PM
He also said he’s the best ping pong player, which is just way over the line.

Here is exhibit A why Gerrard isn’t the best player in the world.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:17 PM
I would do horrible things to be with her. Unforgivable things.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:17 PM
Goddammit, I really need a drink.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:19 PM
in the mood for milk?
March 13th, 2009 at 4:22 PM
anyone else catch the bottom line feed on ESPN, just saw this during the Wisconsin-OSU game…but, the NBA is considering changing the traveling rule…not to enforce it more…but to ADD a step…they quoted Lebron and he would be pleased so he could have his move (crab dribble) back…
March 13th, 2009 at 4:24 PM
I thought Rahm Emanuel was supposed to be Obama’s new attack dog…
March 13th, 2009 at 4:25 PM
Does MikeNYC always show up on posts and bring up some stupid shit?
I mean, I have been reading this site for a little over a month and he comes across as some sort of zealot gasbag
March 13th, 2009 at 4:28 PM
Wouldn’t this settle the debate of who gets the most favorable treatment from refs?
March 13th, 2009 at 4:28 PM
looks like Maxamillion is trying to make a name for himself
…but to ADD a step…they quoted Lebron and he would be pleased so he could have his move (crab dribble) back…
of course

Know your role, rookie.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:33 PM
My god, she is a beautiful woman.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:34 PM
let’s keep it civil on this lovely friday.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:34 PM
no he provides a intelligent argument for the conservative thinkers. as opposed to me where you will only get racial remarks and name calling.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:36 PM
Didnt mean to step on your website there tough guy.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:39 PM
FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
March 13th, 2009 at 4:43 PM

mrejr8234: it is a very strong quality to know your own strengths and weaknesses.
The few of us that are “moderates” on this board are greatly outnumbered by the larger number of “less moderates”, which is fine. However, I have never found Mike to be one to try to inflame an argument just for the sake of it.
His link was not ’stupid shit”. It was just a question as to why the Chief of Staff of the POTUS would single out a “comedian/analyst” for eviscerating a woefully unprepared guest as if he was the cause for the entire mess we are in.
/my 2 cents’d
March 13th, 2009 at 4:49 PM
Mike NYC is cool in my book.

I’m still trying to figure out exactly why Cramer was so underprepared. What was he expecting the interview to be?
/hardly ever agree with what Mike NYC writes, but he seems cool.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:51 PM
Mine too.

March 13th, 2009 at 4:52 PM
max you are the weakest link …goodbye
March 13th, 2009 at 4:52 PM
He had ample time to prepare. He brought a knife to a gun fight and got sent to the morgue.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:56 PM
so are you agreeing with jpq? because you pretty much said that he was unprepared. he had plenty of time to prepare but it doesnt mean he did. if someone brings a knife to a gun fight they are that would be considered “woefully unprepared”.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:57 PM
He assumed Stewart wouldn’t have any clue what he was talking about. However, when Stewart showed he had a clue, it threw Cramer for a loop. At least, that is my opinion.
March 13th, 2009 at 4:58 PM
He had ample time to prepare. He brought a knife to a gun fight and got sent to the morgue.
@ruck: I agree 100%, but that’s not the point. Why do we care about what he did to Jim Cramer? Who’s next on his “hit list”: Suzy Orman?
When Raham Emanuel makes mention of how much he enjoyed Stewart doing the same thing to Barney Frank (or any Republican you want to name) for his REAL involvement in creating this mess, then I’ll be impressed.
But when I see some 2nd tier comic who lucked into a good gig morph into Mike Wallace and Edward R. Murrow on some cable tv financial guru, I’ll wait until he attacks someone who really matters
March 13th, 2009 at 5:01 PM
Like when he told Tony Blair that he was wrong on Iraq?
Are people seriously telling others to respect other commentators because they’ve been here a while? That is so so sad.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:05 PM
mrejr, I never said I disagreed. I just said he had time to prepare. The fact that he didn’t wasn’t Stewart’s fault.
jpq, I agree. I don’t think the whole “showdown” really matters because CNBC will keep doing what they’re doing, and Cramer will keep doing what he’s doing. I do think this thing got blown out of proportion, but at the same time, it’s kind of nice to have someone call them out on it. Just like it’s nice to have someone call out Fox once in a while.
What I’m curious is, how long will it be until someone can find some dirt on Stewart and his crew and tear into them. With all the enemies that they’ve made over the years, you’d think they’d have gotten something by now.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:06 PM
I think you are missing Stewarts point. He is somebody that matters. The “average” viewer watches those kind of programs and takes what they say very seriously. That 2nd tier comic, is no worse than that 2nd tier journalist turned financial guru. However, the 2nd tier journalist directly influences the decisions people make with their life savings.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:06 PM
Mole doesn’t know his role
March 13th, 2009 at 5:08 PM
I’m shocked Oreilly doesn’t hammer him for changing him name, I could see that happening.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:09 PM
To be fair, second tier comics don’t get interviews with basically every presidential candidate and supreme court justices. I don’t see them sitting down with TBL’s boy Steve Carrell.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:10 PM
Are people seriously telling others to respect other commentators because they’ve been here a while? That is so so sad.
mole: I think MikeNYC was being sarcastic. I know I’m not telling Maxamillion he needs to respect anybody, no matter how long they’ve come here. I was responding to why he felt the need to call Mike a “zealot gasbag” for posting the link where his opinion didn’t agree w/ mine. That is all.
I don’t think this is a maggs-type deal where people get completely out of hand w/ personal insults. Everyone should be free to say what they want, and people should be free to respond
March 13th, 2009 at 5:12 PM
March 13th, 2009 at 5:12 PM
No no, not you, I was referring directly to Mike’s comment, which I did not take sarcastically.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:13 PM
Relax, Mole, it was a joke.
Deep breath.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:14 PM
max you are the weakest link …goodbye
This coming from the person who dropped an “N” bomb on Major League Jerk and from what I can read no one likes. Just saying. Fair enough, I just read the PM Round Up and there is no mention of Cramer, so it is appropriate to turn a thread into who has been here longer and how much John Stewart sucks. My bad, now I know the rules. Carry on.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:14 PM
Gotcha.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:17 PM
Nothing against MLJ, Sparty and Friends, etc., but if we’re going to start referencing comments made on other blogs, I might have to quit working to try and keep up.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:30 PM
You must be new. Everyone knows he goes by Mister Zealot Gasbag.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:31 PM
why is everyone so hostile this friday?
chill out ya’ll. keep it friendly.
March 13th, 2009 at 5:33 PM
This has been a great day.
March 13th, 2009 at 7:14 PM
Late to the game, but it looks like Spence started hitting the bong early…
March 13th, 2009 at 8:28 PM
S&Fs? nobody references that place.

March 13th, 2009 at 8:29 PM

March 14th, 2009 at 4:04 AM
No reason, just wanted to give it a plug.
