Your WTF NBA Story of the Day: Isiah Meets with Clippers
1-liner, NBA March 26th. 2009, 12:45pmClippers and Isiah: If they whiffed on their first option, Jerry West, how did they come upon Isiah as next in line? “Isiah Thomas is actively seeking work again, and he spoke several weeks ago with Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling in a meeting arranged by current coach/general manager Mike Dunleavy.” We’re trying to think of one thing Isiah did right as a GM in New York, but we’ve got nothing. OK this is ridiculous. It’s like they’re intentionally screwing up the franchise for whatever reason.

He drafted well, always has. That’s about it though.

In Toronto

Well, I guess when you really think about it, it’s only a logical transition from Elgin Baylor.
March 26th, 2009 at 1:05 PM
my bad. Thomas did draft Krypto-Nate and D Lee
March 26th, 2009 at 1:07 PM
Lee and Robinson were good picks. And I’m sure D’Antoni would love to still have Ariza around.

I would expect him to get another chance as a coach. I think he was a good coach in Indiana and decent with NY.
The problem with NY was that idiot of a GM saddled him with a horrible roster. That guy should never get another job.

For all the free agent busts and bad trades, Isiah did have an eye for college talent. And I’m not talking about female employees.

I wish Orlando never traded him to LA for Brian fucking Cook

Maybe Donald Sterling would like to hire a black guy because of the Elgin Baylor race discrimination lawsuit.
And, maybe he wants to hire an retarded black guy in case Elgin Baylor sues a second time under the Americans with Disabilities act, being that he was so diminished in capacity during his 22 years with the Clips.

You know, it’s one thing after all those years of sucking where you can blame it on him being a cheap owner. But to come out in the last few years and say they’re actually trying… I don’t know what’s worse for the fan base.
March 26th, 2009 at 1:43 PM
Are you kidding me? He has done nothing right at any stop in his career. I seriously doubt that he was the sole person making draft decisions. Isiah should be banned from associating with any sports team. But then again, if he were white, he’d just be another coach, right?
March 26th, 2009 at 1:45 PM
He also drafted Wilson Chandler and Trevor Ariza. I would hire Zeke to be a scout and I had picks between 15-30 I would listen to his suggestions. Besides that I wouldn’t let him in the building.
March 26th, 2009 at 1:46 PM
Wow. So you got one of the worst/shittiest/most frugile owners in the NBA – and really pro sports – combined with a horrific GM/average coach? Holy god, you think the Clips are bad now?! Yikes.
March 26th, 2009 at 1:47 PM
He drafted T-Mac, Mighty Mouse, and Marcus Camby in Toronto. not bad
March 26th, 2009 at 1:54 PM
Mike Dunleavy is a horrific GM/below average coach, so it would be an improvement.
March 26th, 2009 at 1:58 PM
They need to get his ass out of there.
March 26th, 2009 at 2:26 PM
Isiah would do well with the Clippers.
March 26th, 2009 at 2:54 PM
this myth that he drafted well is being thrown out at us.
his one lottery pick was channing freaking frye. so he picked lee at 30. is anyone running out to proclaim chandler a solid championship type player? balkman is anything more than a solid 8th guy?
if he drafts bynum likes he should have and doesn’t trade for eddy curry or marbury he still has a job.
not one person that follows basketball would have traded for a cancer like marbury and not one would have traded 2 lottery picks for a guy with a heart problem (in more ways than 1)
March 26th, 2009 at 2:58 PM
I seem to remember that trade being a big deal when it happened, but Hindsight GMs know everything.

It was a big deal because J-Kidd went to the other side, not Marbury. Kidd took the Nets to the playoffs…Marbury couldn’t even make the playoffs with Amare, Marion and Joe Johnson (before he blew up). J-Kidd had led the 2001 Suns to the playoffs (lost to LAkers). Marbury is perhaps the biggest cancer I’ve seen on a basketball court. Well, Zach Randolph is probably worse.
