More Impressive Dunk on Stanley Robinson: Durrell Summers of Mich. State, or Joe Alexander of WVU?
College Basketball, Video April 6th. 2009, 9:45amFirst, the Summers flush from Saturday night. In Robinson’s defense, he was backpedaling, and he got a piece of it, so it wasn’t a pure flush, like the one you’ll see after the jump.
And here we have Joe Alexander’s two-handed finish over Robinson in the 2008 Big East tournament. Part of the reason we give this dunk the slight edge is because of the immediate reaction of the announcing team of McDonough, Bilas and Raftery as the two players collide at the rim.
“A man wide open … it’s Alexander and Robinson comes over … [BILAS AND RAFT SIMULTANEOUSLY SCREAM 'OOHHHHH'] … and it’s a dunk right in his face.” The crowd explodes and Raft shouts, “Oh my goodness! Send it in, Joe!”
Nantz’s call Saturday seemed a second late, and Kellogg waited about four seconds to chime in, after the participants had landed and the ball was moving up court. “Summers goes in … and takes it right over Robinson, somehow!” The large Michigan State contingent were all right near the basket, which added to the moment (it helped that the Spartans were already on a significant run, in the midst of pulling away). Clark Kellogg’s immediate reaction is the same as Raft’s – “oh my goodness!” and he followed it with “oh, man!” Nantz calmly said, “Ford Field is shaking.”

Summers is way better

Summers’ shot wasn’t even a dunk. It was blocked into the basket. Congratulations.
Robinson’s follow-up slam was better than both of these.
Nice win by the way, Sparty.

Thank you Charles Krauthammer.

The fact that robinson got a hand to the ball makes it even better. He had to power through the defender to put that home. I picked Alexander’s but that isn’t good reasoning to say it wasn’t good.

Except that he never actually dunked the ball. It was blocked into the basket. His hand followed through, but the ball wasn’t in it.

Im just saying Mike, That shit was sweet when it happened don’t try to kill it. You must have had some money on UConn. That ‘Dunk’ solidify’d states momentum. I will give you this, Robinson did make up for it at the other end.

Fine, it was the greatest dunk I’ve ever seen.
Nah, just wanted UConn to win, badly. Same with Louisville, but you’ve got to give Michigan St. credit, even if they are incredibly boring to watch.

Stanley’s a STUD and if you play long enough, You will eventually get dunked on (Such is Life…) He gets no shame from me.

boring to watch?
How cool is it that, in order to beat Louisville, Michigan St had play more of a half court offense because they wouldn’t win in a footrace with clark, and t will. Fast forward to this past weekend, and in order for Michigan St to win, they had to play more fast break in order to beat the half court offense of price, adrien and thabeet. And these two teams were 2 of the best three in the B# this year. I thought it was pretty fucking cool and a helluva coaching job on Izzo’s part.
How many other teams can adjust AND execute their game plan to perfection against 2 of the consensus top 5 teams all year?

btw B# = Big East
