Champions League Quarterfinals Second Leg II
1-liner, Soccer April 15th. 2009, 2:30pmChampions League: Both matches are tied. Arsenal have an away goal. They need to win or hold Villarreal scoreless. They have allowed two goals in 12 home matches since Christmas. They have not conceded in four Champions League home ties. Porto have two away goals. Man U need to score three goals or win outright. No English team has ever won at Porto. Elsewhere: Obama is backing the U.S. World Cup bid with a hand-written letter to Sepp Blatter, recounting his love for soccer as a child. A story about his mother’s stockings may have been more effective. And Guardian columnist Steven Wells discusses American blogger hatred for Tommy Smyth.  Proves only that he is enough of a misanthropic bastard to skewer a harmless old man in an international forum.

Still … no Almunia, no Gallas, no Sagna, no Clichy.
April 15th, 2009 at 2:46 PM
Sorry about the typo.
Yes, though I’m not sure how critical this is. I don’t think there is much difference between Almunia and Fabianski. Clichy is not much of a defender. Sagna hurts, but Eboue is decent defensively.

tbl: that was great. It’s so funny to see some old, dumpy housewife who has an amazing voice, and over here there are literally hundreds of “face acts” that have no talent whatsoever that are forced down our throats. We are the epitome of superficial.

It’s not a strong back four healthy. They hold possession and have speed to get back and cover, which is why their defensive record is pretty good. Even short-handed they have such a speed advantage that I don’t think it will be an issue.

Another United/Chelsea final could kill the Champions League, honestly. Platini will absolutely lose his shit and there will be tons of changes.

I’m sensing an Arsenal-Barca rematch.
April 15th, 2009 at 5:34 PM
I’m praying for it! Would not be a whole lot of defending going on, certainly better than last years shitfest.
