Matt Vasgersian Cleans Up the First MLB Network Mess with an Impressive, Swift, Apology
Media Gossip/Musings, Video April 29th. 2009, 9:00amThe MLB Network, darlings of the blog (and media) world just a month into the season, ran into a brick wall for the first time Monday: popular analyst Matt Vasgersian failed miserably at an attempt at humor … seconds after Brad Hawpe of the Rockies was helped onto a stretcher. Vasgersian, one of the network’s splashy hires, delivered an apology last night.
Apologies are often clunky and often forced; the delivery nervously strained. Wasn’t the case here. This one seemed effortless, and the network didn’t cut directly to commercial, as is sometimes the case in these situations. Let it marinate for a moment, keep the camera on the offender, let him wallow for another 15 seconds. Well done. [via Biz of Baseball]

If by splashy, you mean douchey, then you are correct.

Matt Vasgersian just lost his MLB 10 “The Show” contract right about the 30 second spot.

Hey never said he was sorry. Just said he chose a bad moment.
And then during all the reaction he sort of quickly said “I apologize for that.”
Just say your sorry right off the bat, Vasgersian. Don’t beat around the bush.

Ok, it was a bad attempt at humor, but is he blind? That chick doesn’t look like McNabb, she looks like Horace.

Honestly, I had the exact same thought — the guy does look like McNabb. No need to apologize for anything.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:21 AM
Why did he apologize? Why?
He didn’t do anything wrong. This is absolutely ridiculous. I actually laughed. It was funny.

Mitch Williams asked last night if Chad Gaudin’s Gossomar goatee was photoshopped onto his face.

Whitlock’s right. Also, one of the Rockies trainers looks like Jeff George.

nate davis is going to be HUGE in san fran. he’s already lapped alex smith on the depth chart.

Wow as soon as I didnt hear anyone laugh I stopped the video. What a fucking dumbass. That didnt look like Mcnabb. Yes there was a need to apologize, it just wasnt funny. It wasnt offensive though.

3 guys on a couch wouldn’t talk like that. They would have changed the channel while they cleaned up the mess on the field and discussed the bodily merits of the female contestants on a RW/RR challenge rerun for the 5th time.

This reminds me of Hispanic night on MNF when TK apologized.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:31 AM
This is reminds me of our nightly discussions on Twi++er. I still say Shavon isnt fat and I would rail her.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:32 AM
Good point, and the chick looked like Lisa Olsen, former Lupica protégé.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:34 AM
Shauvon’s gone dude. Let her go.

If I had to whip up a replica model of Shavon in five minutes, I would affix two pancakes to two Slinkys.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:40 AM
lol
April 29th, 2009 at 9:40 AM
I’ve wanted to do shavon really bad for the longest time too… wait, they are still doing rw/rr challenges???
April 29th, 2009 at 9:46 AM
Not unlike this sentence.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:49 AM
All McNabb, all the time!
April 29th, 2009 at 9:51 AM
Who’s the fat quarterback?
April 29th, 2009 at 9:53 AM
Don’t bring that garbage in here.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:54 AM
HA!

Not only was that just plain stupid, I don’t get why he would have bothered to go out of his way to say that. Yeah the EMT looks like a fat McNabb so what? Why not save that for a commercial break with your co-horts if you really think you need to say it instead of on the air. What a douchebag.
