The MLB Network, darlings of the blog (and media) world just a month into the season, ran into a brick wall for the first time Monday: popular analyst Matt Vasgersian failed miserably at an attempt at humor … seconds after Brad Hawpe of the Rockies was helped onto a stretcher. Vasgersian, one of the network’s splashy hires, delivered an apology last night.

Apologies are often clunky and often forced; the delivery nervously strained. Wasn’t the case here. This one seemed effortless, and the network didn’t cut directly to commercial, as is sometimes the case in these situations. Let it marinate for a moment, keep the camera on the offender, let him wallow for another 15 seconds. Well done. [via Biz of Baseball]
