Re-visiting Michael Jordan’s Brief, Failed, Baseball Career
1-liner, Baseball, Michael Jordan, Movies April 29th. 2009, 12:15pmMichael Jordan: The guy who made “Bull Durham,” “Tin Cup” and “White Men Can’t Jump,” is making a documentary on Michael Jordan’s 1994 summer with the Birmingham Barrons. Surely you remember that failed experiment – Jordan hit a meek .202. SI clowned Jordan by putting him on cover, and then he supposedly blacklisted the mag for a minute. Go back to Sea World

i always thought Jordan’s baseball career was a success. batting .202 in the minors after not playing the sport for about 14-15 years? not too shabby.
April 29th, 2009 at 12:29 PM
At least we got to see these sweet kicks.
April 29th, 2009 at 12:30 PM
Agreed sparty
April 29th, 2009 at 12:31 PM
he stole 30 bases too.
April 29th, 2009 at 12:34 PM
Got caught 18 times for a pretty awful success rate. Jordan was garbage.
/LBJ would have stolen 100

courtney lee ruled out for game 6
April 29th, 2009 at 12:35 PM
i hate how people say the rockets won because jordan wasnt there. Well the bulls WITH jordan lost in 6 games to a magic team the rockets swept.

that OBP and OPS aren’t bad?
116 total bases, 114 Ks
come on, he was awful
April 29th, 2009 at 12:36 PM
that’s racist
April 29th, 2009 at 12:38 PM
after he took a year off.
yeah but its been about 15 years since i last played baseball and i couldnt hit .200 in the minors.
April 29th, 2009 at 12:38 PM
if he was a baseball prospect, yes it is.
April 29th, 2009 at 12:40 PM
He had just gotten back in the game in March…. wasn’t even close to game shape again yet, still hadn’t gelled with the new squad…. I’m a knick fan who lived through this ass in the 90s…. Bulls def would have one 8 in a row with Jordan if he hadn’t gotten secretly suspended for gambl… errrrr…. retired
April 29th, 2009 at 12:41 PM
bill simmons thinks he was secretly suspended by stern for gambling
/reads too much simmons
April 29th, 2009 at 12:41 PM
Jordan was a 6′6″ 31 year old who hadnt played since at least high school. Did anyone really expect him to make the majors, except maybe Jordan.
April 29th, 2009 at 12:41 PM
Sparty- you’re dead on. I don’t people realize how impressive a feat it was, especially since he was at the AA level
April 29th, 2009 at 12:43 PM
courtney lee ruled out for game 6
fractured sinus. TBL is praying Howard gets suspended
April 29th, 2009 at 12:49 PM
i just like a good game 7, Irish.
as for Jordan … so you’d characterize his brief baseball dalliance … how? In one season of AA, he was bad. Disregarding expectations, how’d he perform?
April 29th, 2009 at 12:49 PM
Howard has always thrown cheap little elbows here and there. None like that though. Even irish has do admit he should be suspended.
April 29th, 2009 at 12:51 PM
you can’t disregard expectations in this case. it was an extremely unique situation. but yeah, to be correct, go ahead an disregard it.
April 29th, 2009 at 12:52 PM
Irish, it should be you praying for D-Ho to not be suspended.
April 29th, 2009 at 12:56 PM
hey irish d-ho at his finest.

i heard you on the other post Mrejr
April 29th, 2009 at 12:57 PM
If TBL can lay the boom pwn at the rec league, surely MJ could’ve had decent numbers in the freaking minor leagues.

The rest of you outside of Jersey and me do know why he went to baseball and why his father was killed don’t you? Do you actually need some douche like Bill Simmons to write that for you? Or do you still actually believe the predominant media account?
Alright then, more bridges to sell here in Philadelphia I guess, back to work …
April 29th, 2009 at 1:16 PM
Are you claiming his father was killed because of gambling debt?
April 29th, 2009 at 1:20 PM

This douche needs further explanation.
April 29th, 2009 at 1:22 PM
WHY he went to baseball isn’t important. THAT he did, is.
April 29th, 2009 at 1:34 PM
Paolo-buddy and me have had this argument time and time again. he said there is no way a couple of gang bangers wouldn’t give up who they were working for if it was surrounding gambling debts.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:40 PM
FTFY.
Anyone who doesn’t believe that is naive.
April 29th, 2009 at 4:26 PM
Way late to the party… Can’t wait to watch the documentary. My childhood buddy was the starting pitcher who faced him in game 1… and promptly struck him out 3 times, making Sports Center highlight history reels for years to come. And as with most guys his age, MJ posters littered his walls so it was quite the thrill for him (and for all his friends too!).
April 30th, 2009 at 12:49 AM
As usual, another comment by Spencer with which I disagree sharply.
April 30th, 2009 at 12:51 AM
Great to know sparty that you and your buddy are so well-informed in the ways of organised crime then …
April 30th, 2009 at 12:53 AM
A “secret” suspension you are saying? Interesting, but given the stakes surrounding anyone with high gambling debts, if that were part of the deal it did not stop there. Believing THAT is naive.

Illformula, douchebags like you can find your own information from all those fine sources you trust on TV. Boo-yah!
