Finally, the World Series Gets a Clue
1-liner, Baseball May 18th. 2009, 5:00pmWorld Series: Somebody must be listening to the internet, or perhaps the terrible ratings the last two years were troubling enough to make a change: the Fall Classic will begin no later than 7:57 pm EST this year. “Last year, on average, World Series games’ first pitches came at 8:28. In recent years, some have come as late as 8:38.” Selig says that pushing up start times was partly so that kids could watch. (USA Today)

I heard it this morning on the radio, and they’re normally a day behind all the good stuff.

Nice. For a moment, just a brief one, Phil Mushnick takes off the bandana and war paint, and steps outside for some fresh air.

like yahoo. good for them for trying. shitty for the local fans if it happens to be 2 west coast teams. you cant win. i prefer to have an early game like most people in this country.

Yeah, should be awesome for the west coast people who will miss the first 3 innings of every game because they’re on their way home from work.

would you rather miss the first three innings and see the end or watch the first six innings and go to sleep at 11:30, then wake up the next morning to see who won?
/what is a “West Coast”?

Yes, we had some fun with it today. He destroyed him.

Bingo. I moved out to LA 5 years ago and who cares what happens the 1st3 innings or 1st quarter? But there were plenty of times in NY where I would pray for the game to end so I could get to bed.
Not to mention when the games are on here it’s still happy hour. Suck it everyone.

west coast is really just the far east coast.

They should just move it to 1PM pacific during the week and no games on the weekend so it doesn’t get in the way of any football.
In all seriousness, if they want people to care about the world series, shorten the season (which is way to f’ing long) and move the series up a month and a half before football season begins. The sport is only popular when there is nothing else going on. Once football hits most people don’t care about baseball any longer.
And as a double bonus, the decrease in games will make up for dudes being on the juice and 40 homers will be a big deal again. Everyone is happy.

@rs27: Where do you live out west?

what an absolute lying SOB that selig is. just a couple of months ago he tore into chris russo for such a suggestion, claiming the late starts had nothing to do with kids missing games.
