Mangini Off To a Great Start With Browns Players
NFL May 29th. 2009, 4:15pm
Do you remember when Eric Mangini’s nickname was “Mangenius?â€Â Yeah, me neither. The new Browns coach is off to a spectacular start with his peculiar brand of man management.
He reportedly pissed off every rookie on the team by de facto forcing them on a 10-hour bus trip (there and back)to Hartford, Conn. to work at his football camp.
“It’s voluntary, but’s it’s B.S. voluntary,” said one source. “These players are fighting for starting jobs and playing time. What are they supposed to do, say ‘no, I’m not going?”’
It is nice that Mangini runs a camp for underprivileged children. But forcing someone from any walk of life on a ten hour bus trip is torture. There is nothing less bonding than being crammed on a bus with other humans for the better part of the day. I would imagine it’s worse if you are an oversized professional football player.
Having to move to Cleveland is awful enough. Do they really need to be forced on an endless bus journey to the only worse medium-sized city in the country, Hartford? Mangini can’t afford to pay a couple grind to fly them?
If only they had drafted Andre Smith so I could make a joke about finding hotel rooms for his manservants.
I see this Browns season ending well.

actually, detroit is considered medium sized now…and is far worse than either of those shitholes.
but anyways, it’s 4:20 (!) and michigan still sucks.

Needs more hate.

Mangini and Andre Smith could’ve played patty-cake with their swinging flapjack tits.

at least browns fans aren’t missing teeth and addicted to meth like the collection of appalachian hillbillies known as steeler fans.

mwaaaaaaaaah….poor football players….they could say no and get a real job like everyone else.

Guy’s making two million dollars a year? What do you want him to do? Work more than 5 months a year? Asshole.
May 29th, 2009 at 4:34 PM
It’s their job, so it’s real and dry forcing them to take a 5 hour bus trip isn’t any less messed up.
May 29th, 2009 at 4:35 PM
Oh no. Please, no “waaaaaaaaaaaaaahs” or “mwahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhs”.

and to stay on topic…yes, i agree that it’s bullshit what mangini’s doing here. these guys, whatever your view on their job status, don’t deserve to be trucked around like this. there’s nothing in their contract about having to do bullshit like this, but when mangini is calling the shots and will fuck them over if they protest, what can they do?
May 29th, 2009 at 4:42 PM

spencer: umm…is it in your “contract” at work that you can’t look at various websites, or do they just unilaterally block them from you, whether you like it or not? life’s a bitch. I have NO sympathy for these guys. If they couldn’t play ball and making hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars, they’s be working at Wendy’s (I didn’t say Popeye’s, so don’t give me that “racist” shit, tampa-lol)

They also can’t go elsewhere, because they are owned right now. They have to wait to get cut before anybody can pick them up. These retarded dictatorships run by guys who aren’t even very good coaches get old really fast. Good luck signing any free agents with this guy at the helm.
The flip side, though, is the inmates running the asylum, still for a loser coach (i’m talking about poor Wade Phillips).

come on..you gotta let the roundup ferment for a while

That’s what happens. Everybody moves on, to argue the next round – o – nonsense. I didn’t even click any of the links in the roundup. I just came here to try and talk sense into you people.

they knew that before going into their professional field of choice for work.
no sympathy for these guys.

so, what’s your price?

the thing about belechick disciples is that they dont wait until they actually win something to act like they are king of the world. maybe if they actually didnt act like the show was just about them the teams they go to wouldnt hate them the second they walk through the door. maybe

i think pissing up a rope would yield more favorable results
May 29th, 2009 at 5:13 PM
could you guys get over yourselves? Yeah, maybe they get paid to play a game…but most of the rookies aren’t making millions- they’re just trying to actually make a team in order to abuse their bodies and shorten their lives for your fucking benefit. If you think they get paid too much, stop watching football…otherwise, stfu. Because I certainly would rather your money go to the players than the owners.

14 hour bus ride from Indianapolis to Minneapolis was the worst hell I have ever experienced, no hyperbole. The insane sinus infection and 72 hours of no sleep didn’t help but still, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

fly overseas 18 hours pit stop in a small country for a couple hours and then 6 more hours of flying.
May 29th, 2009 at 5:33 PM
we spent a week in kuwait trying to get home because a handful of us were getting out in less than a month (throw us to the wolves) and they kept sending the army home for their 2 weeks leave instead of taking care of us first. Well we ended up flying comercial from kuwait international to dulles. We drank all the alcohol on the plane and had an awesome time. 1 guy passed out halfway out of the bathroom. When i woke up i had the worst hangover ever and i still had another flight to los angelas and then to san diego. Best and worst plane ride ever

Please….I bet there are gaggle of actresses in Hollywood that have done way worse to land a job besides sit in a bus for a day. Pusssies…

jpq…actually, yea it’s in my contract that i shouldn’t be doing internet time wasting at work, and the reason they don’t block all the sites i go to is because any firewall would also hurt a lot of the sites that my more important coworkers use for actual work, at least according to the IT guy who’s a huge iron maiden fan like myself. i don’t know if this is relevant or not, but i
the bottom line is that pro athletes are highly paid servants…they didn’t have a say in whether or not they went to a non-mandatory team function, unlike myself. it doesn’t matter what they do for a living or how much they make because this was something they were pretty much forced into doing despite the fact that it really has no bearing on what they’re getting paid for. and they’re getting paid to play football for the browns, not to teach some kids from CT how to play football.
and if this would have any bearing on making the team or getting a starting spot, then it’s even worse. just because two or three of these guys have a contract that guarantees 6 figures doesn’t mean they’re all highly compensated. what about the 6th rounders who are guaranteed nothing? what if they got cut for making a stink about something like this which is so fucking ancillary?
does/did your boss make you go volunteer on your vacation days 10 hours away for no compensation? and id have much less of a problem with this if mangini did this in the cleveland area, but the principle is the same.
mangini got my support at the draft, but right now, he’s eroding that confidence.

let the record show that Hartford is not the terrible place it is made out to be… there is tons of ESPN trim running around, as well as a good amount of co-eds, it is a target rich environment….
May 30th, 2009 at 9:08 AM
I can get to Cleveland in just ten hours? What the hell am I still doing in Hartford?
Do they have a hockey team I could borrow?
