I have no idea who is giving Meeks advice, but that person better know what the hell he is doing. He has 2nd round written all over him. Why not come back and play with a loaded team for one more year?

I’m looking forward to see where Tyler H gets drafted. Mark “Mad Dog” Madsen all ovah
June 8th, 2009 at 2:10 PM
@Irish – Bulls are only team to have worked him out. If they draft him, I’ll burn down the UC.
We already have one Joakim Noah.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:10 PM
I know he is planning a Fed post, but for some reason he wants to wait until I have something to do at work. Seriously though, instead of the Dibble post, why not have a college football post?
/I’m not letting it go until we get one
//seriously dude, I’m begging you.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:12 PM
I think Tyler would be a good pick for a team in contention. He will play defense and hit open 17 footers. Nothing spectacular, but for a team that already has a good shot at a title (Cavs), why not?
June 8th, 2009 at 2:14 PM
@JPQ – I gave it a shot. But I’ll be the first to say I don’t know everything about tennis. Still determining if I know anything.
I’m interested in TBL’s take.

Let me loot it first.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:16 PM
Lawal + Favors + Shumpert = Pretty damn fun to watch.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:17 PM
Hewitt will fuck that up.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:18 PM
LSU’s Tasmin Mitchell will return to school for his senior year
They go from SEC Champs to an 8-win team if he doesn’t. With him, they’ll stillstruggle to make the NCAAs
June 8th, 2009 at 2:18 PM
@Tampa – What you taking? The Johnny Red Kerr statue? I got dibs on the Stan Mikita and Hull stuff and just one thing of MJs. You can have the rest.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:19 PM
Whoever’s giving him advice has a much better grasp on the situation than you. He gains NOTHING from going back, and next year’s draft is much deeper than this year’s crop. He has basically no chance of improving his stock enough to get a first round grade going into next year’s draft, so all going back would do for him would be to potentially knock him out of the 2nd round, risk injury, and deny him one more year of earning money if he’s good enough to stick around the NBA.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:20 PM
The difference is that Noah is actually good.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:20 PM
Doesn’t Meeks/UK have a big issue regarding the number of scholarships right now? I think Calipari already counts him as gone, plus he’s over by another 1 or 2 highly paid applicants.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:22 PM
Nick, I respect your opinion in a lot of things. But you take that back…take it back, I say!
June 8th, 2009 at 2:23 PM
@Souv: I’d LOOOOVE to have Noah in Wine and Gold.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:26 PM
Tallguy: You think he has zero chance at getting into the first round if he duplicates his year stats-wise? I disagree. If he were to play on a winning team and score 20+ a game for a second year in a row, someone would pull the trigger on him in the first round.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:26 PM
If you want only one thing of Mikes. This is a great deal.
Noah is a garbage man we need him. Get him in the weight room this summer and get him on some Aderall and were in good shape
June 8th, 2009 at 2:26 PM
I think Hewitt takes too much blame for bad coaching, when he should take heat for too many off years in recruiting. The man can’t recruit a point guard to save his life.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:29 PM
how about we trade noah and our 2 picks for griffin? if anyone will take that deal it is the clippers
/top heavy draft
June 8th, 2009 at 2:30 PM
Isn’t AV essentialy Joakim? Perhaps Joakim has some extra height and length but AV gives a little more effort and pisses off opponents. Joakim can get boards and plays some decent D. But no offense other than what Derrick gives him.
But he does need the weight room like Tampa said and he has that thing where he gets arrested for drugs…often.
If you put them together, I think you get Andres Nocioni.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:30 PM
Mrejr Hells yea. Sad thing is we wouldnt need him if we dont trade Aldridge for fucking Tyrus Thomas.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:32 PM
The man can’t recruit a point guard to save his life.
I feel your pain. Except we had a coach who couldn’t find a point guard if he spent 6 months in New York City, and he couldn’t coach.
/John Brady’d
June 8th, 2009 at 2:33 PM
No he already cleared room, they told a 5th year senior not to come back and forced a couple role players out.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:33 PM
AV for Noah right now straight up?…I would do that.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:34 PM
but if we did that we wouldnt have the future best point god in the nba. him and griffin are good for at least 4 rings. aldrigde is good but i would take rose over aldridge any day of the week
/hindsight is perfect
June 8th, 2009 at 2:37 PM
we would have sucked with Aldridge and got Rose anyway I believe. i don’t think the guy would have put us out of the lottery. I want T. Will though, I hear he will drop to us.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:40 PM
Now we’re talking
June 8th, 2009 at 2:41 PM
Defense? Hansbrough? He was a horrendous defender at UNC – can’t wait to watch him try to defend NBA 4’s
June 8th, 2009 at 2:41 PM
i say forget about twill because dwyane wade is coming home
tampa, just imagine drose, wade and griffin……now if that doesnt make you happy i dont know what will
June 8th, 2009 at 2:44 PM
Out of the whole paragraph, that is what AV comes down to. That’s it. Noah is a BETTER BASKETBALL PLAYER THAN AV because VAREJAO SUCCCCKKKSSSSSS. It’s not like you don;t want that kind of player, but on a team like this, you don’t want your starting big man to only do these things decently.
/Will not stop until Varejao is 6 feet deep.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:44 PM
A)He won’t score 20 a game on that team again…too much talent for him to do that
B)His main weakness is defense, which won’t magically improve next year
C)Next year’s draft crop is significantly better than this years…this year, anything outside the top 6 is iffy, whereas next year’s class should be 20+ deep, easy. He’s not sneaking into the first round next year.
People rail about kids leaving too early, but a lot of kids don’t go early enough and end up screwing themselves. Hansbrough would’ve been a top 10 pick if he’d left after his freshman year, (extremely weak draft), same deal with McRoberts (1 year later he’s a 2nd rounder), you can make the argument that Blake Griffin should’ve gone last year (1 less season of bank, would’ve been top 5 last year easy), Lawson is probably going at the exact same place this year as he would have last year…certain coaches are really good at screwing over their players to get one more year out of them (good ol’ Roy is the best at that particular game…Ed Davis probably would’ve been a lottery pick this year). The fact remains, if you’re guaranteed to go in the first round, you should probably go unless you’ve got a great chance at moving up into the lottery the next year. If you’re a junior projected in the 2nd round, and next year’s draft is scary good compared to the current draft, you should probably go. Meeks is doing the right thing for himself, and Patterson probably screwed himself out of a first round contract by coming back.

mrejr- you are delusional my friend. I wont kill that dream though.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:47 PM
you can make the argument that Blake Griffin should’ve gone last year (1 less season of bank, would’ve been top 5 last year easy),
doesn’t flesh out with the #’s. The #1 pick gets a whole buncha money compared to the # 5 pick. Here’s a longass URL, because I link for shit.

are you saying you want me to be gm for the bulls? because i would make all that shit happen. gar or whatever his fucking name is cant hold my jock
June 8th, 2009 at 2:56 PM
@Dirt- it’s more of a longterm argument…anything to start the clock towards free agency faster. Players make more the longer they’re in the league, so it’s usually better for players to get into the league asap. In this case, Griffin probably made the right call, but rarely is it smart for a top 15 pick to forgo the draft to potentially move up. Griffin just happened to take advantage of a weak year of college basketball.

If we assume the 4th and 5th years become guaranteed, the PV (@10%) of the first 5 years in the stay a year & get drafted #1 case is about $18.2 M.
If he leaves a year earlier and only gets drafted 5th, it’s worth $12.6 M.
However, that assumes he’s paid no money in his sixth year. He’d have to get a contract worth $9.7 million in the sixth year to make leaving early a better decision.
June 8th, 2009 at 3:04 PM
In terms of free agency, and escalating salaries, it’s always better to be drafted as high as possible. The difference between qualifying offers for top 5 picks versus late first rounders is mindboggling.
While it’s better to be a free agent sooner, it’s way, way better to bank some guaranteed $$$ by being a very high draft choice.
Plus, if you’re a baller, you have to think that you’re good, no? You have to think you’ll improve.
