Nick Montana Spurns Ohio State, LSU, Picks Lowly Washington
1-liner, College Basketball, Recruiting June 10th. 2009, 12:30pmNick Montana: Is Joe Montana’s progeny aware that the Washington Huskies were 0-12 last year? Does he know how many I-AA teams were rated ahead of Washington last season? Here’s what you need to know about one of the best QBs of the class of 2010 picking UW: “… last weekend when he visited UW along with his parents, meeting with Huskies coach Steve Sarkisian and QB Jake Locker, among others. The Montana family and Sarkisian have known each other since the coach worked as an assistant at USC grooming the likes of Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart and Mark Sanchez.” (Seattle Times)

I was never a fan of Joe Montana, but anybody that shuns OSU is a favorite of mine. His kid is now my hero.

Cant wait to see him tearing up the Emerald Bowl in 4 years.
June 10th, 2009 at 12:36 PM
Always been a fan of Joe ‘Mt. Rushmore’ Montana …
And @TBL Yeah it SOUNDS like a Deal-Done-Already scenario
June 10th, 2009 at 12:38 PM
Lets hope Jake spoke to young Nick about the art of TD celebrations
June 10th, 2009 at 12:45 PM
but where’s Will Smith’s kid gonna go?
June 10th, 2009 at 12:45 PM
LSU and Ohio State don’t have a great track record of turning out pro quarterbacks.
If Joe wanted his son to go to a school with a coach that supposedly “grooms” quarterbacks, and get a lot of attention doing it, he could have told him to go to–oh, I don’t know–Notre Dame?

I think this is a solid move. He’s going to get 100% of the credit when they win and the benefit of the doubt when they lose. Jay Cutler was in the same situation in Vandy and he got that money.

Hey I can’t fault a kid who wants to win single digits in games over the course of his college career. Oh wait, yes I can.
June 10th, 2009 at 12:52 PM
how many wins did Elway have?

HEY. From Accuweather.com/Rob Neyer “The wall structure is slightly different than the old park,” AccuWeather said. “The main difference involves curvature. The gentle curve from right field to center field seen in original Yankee Stadium has largely been eliminated at the new stadium. This is due in large part to the presence of a manual scoreboard embedded within the wall. Losing this curvature has resulted in a right field that is shorter by four-to-five feet on average, but up to nine feet in spots.
“Not only is the famed short porch even shorter in the new stadium, but the walls themselves are not as tall. In the old ballpark, the walls in right field stood at a height of approximately 10 feet. At this height, it was difficult for outfielders to scale the wall and attempt to rob a home run over the fence. Fast forward to 2009, and the outfielders have been scaling the wall without any trouble. The result? The new outfield fences only rise to a height of eight feet, adding to the ease hitting a home run to right.”

If he wanted to stay on the West Coast, USC wasn’t offering, and he’s a traditional drop-back passer (which I think he is), his choices were pretty limited. He’ll miss Sarkisian’s first rebuilding year. If he redshirts in Sarkisian’s second year, the team might be competitive by the time he starts.

Sounds like a move aimed at getting the kid ready for the NFL.
And I can’t fault him for that.
June 10th, 2009 at 12:56 PM
Wherever Tim Floyd ends up.
June 10th, 2009 at 12:56 PM
Rohan Davey, Josh Booty, Jamarcus Russell, and Matt Mauck disagrees with you. They’re not good(at all), but they made the league.
/we’re bad, but not tOSU bad
June 10th, 2009 at 12:58 PM
craig krenzel made the league mak, dont get too excited
June 10th, 2009 at 12:59 PM
He already has enough pressure being Joe Montana’s son. He picked a lower-profile school while staying in a bigger conference, and he will get all the credit for anything resembling a turnaround.
June 10th, 2009 at 12:59 PM
You know I’m an LSU guy, but Ohio State has Krenzel, Troy Smith and Joe Germaine, off the top of my head.
/we might actually be that bad
//we both forgot that Matt Flynn is Aaron Rodgers’s backup too
June 10th, 2009 at 1:03 PM
ohio state blows for QB’s in the NFL…there’s no arguing that.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:04 PM
For the kids sake, lets all agree that its good that he didnt choose the QB career killer aka the Big 12.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:10 PM
I forgot makblunt, an LSU quarterback led a team to a Super Bowl
/whaddya mean David Woodley sucks?
June 10th, 2009 at 1:16 PM
I see your 4 shitty QBs and raise you 4 more: Troy Smith, Craig Krenz, Joe Germaine, and Mike Tomczak.
/TSmif still has a chance to be good.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:18 PM
we’re still up 5-3 in term of garbage NFL QB’s, including an actual starter! That’s better than the entire Big 12!
June 10th, 2009 at 1:25 PM
dont forget felon art schlicter…he was a buckeye too! and does steve bellisari count? sure, he was moved to safety for the week he was actually in the league, but that’s gotta count for something…at least half a QB.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:26 PM
Art Schlichter, also.
And Bobby Hoying played for the Iggles.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:27 PM
Screw you guys. LSU wins.
/throws out Y.A. Tittle and Bert Jones cards
June 10th, 2009 at 1:28 PM
Sucks for osu. I guess they should have gone after Devin Gardner with a little more energy.
Also, if you want to be a good pro QB, go see Scot Loeffler.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:28 PM
Even Joe knows Charlie Tuna is overrated.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:36 PM
They didnt go after Gardner at all. Pryor will have to do, then Miller.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:49 PM
Gardner recieved an offer from osu. If that is “not going after him at all” then that is insane.
June 10th, 2009 at 2:04 PM
For you to bring him up makes me think you follow recruiting. You obviously know that OSU was his top choice but they didnt offer until it looked like Montana was going elsewhere. Didnt he burn the offer in some video? That makes me think OSU didnt think too highly of him.
June 10th, 2009 at 2:54 PM
Yes I do follow recruiting. OSU offered Gardner. If they didn’t think too highly of him they wouldn’t have offered. It makes zero sense for them to offer a kid they weren’t high on especially based on thier tendancy to hold off on offers until they have seen a kid in action. You have to admit that even if you are a buckeye fan.
June 10th, 2009 at 3:15 PM
Top 10 recruiting class, so I guess you can fault a lot of kids. Ones who are damn good at football too. If Sark can stand toe to toe with the OSU’s, LSU’s and Alabama’s in recruiting battles (and win) coming off of 0-12, imagine what he’ll do after they win a few games.
Seems to me like Sarkisian is the perfect guy to reawaken the sleeping giant that is Washington.
June 10th, 2009 at 3:22 PM
cassino…be careful with that. new coaches always have highly ranked recruiting classes, and not all of them pan out as planned.
June 10th, 2009 at 3:35 PM
Top 10 recruiting class? Washington? When? THIS year? It is June… heed spencer’s advice. The rankings as well as the “commitments” will change drastically by February.
June 10th, 2009 at 3:35 PM
I’m just saying, he has done everything right since he was hired. He’s given no reason to think that he wasn’t the best man for the job.
June 10th, 2009 at 3:37 PM
You’re right Maggs. It’ll probably be Top-5 by February.
June 10th, 2009 at 4:00 PM
It is going to be really tough going head-to-head with Oregon and those facilities, but play on player. Glad to see there is some excitement up there for a change. The only question is what to do about WSU…
June 10th, 2009 at 4:06 PM
You mean aside from laugh? WSU put up just over 100 yards of offense last year per game. Their two wins were against a 1-AA and a Locker-less Washington team that didn’t have a coach. Washington State is probably the worst team in college football next year, and is easily the worst team from a Big-6 conference.
