NBA Draft: Harangody Out, Meeks In
1-liner, NBA Draft, Uncategorized June 15th. 2009, 5:15pmNBA Draft: Jodie Meeks is staying in the draft, breaking Bluegrass hearts; Luke Harangody is out, which must thrill Mike Brey. USC’s Taj Gibson tweeted that he’s staying in the draft, not that anyone thought he’d go back to that mess in Troy. Maryland’s Greivis Vazquez is returning to Maryland, which should buy oft-beleaguered Gary Williams another two years, at least. (Staying in the draft, and hoping to get selected: High School hero Luke Zeller. That’s a great way to win a State title.

If Vazquez would have left, would he have been a first rounder?

Vazquez seems like a fellow that is easy to hate.

No. He’s really not that good. For all the scoring he does, there are plenty of negatives to go along. I tend to think Maryland’s ACC tourney run this past March is what gave Williams a stay of execution.

Considering all the talent that’s left Maryland over the last ten years, it’s amazing that Williams:
1) Won a title
2) Still has a job
Then again, he’s all but said that UConn cheats.
As a half assed Maryland fan (you sort of have to be if you ever live in DC); I kind of like Gary. But still can’t understand why he can’t get anyone to come to Maryland.

@Otter – I had a friend that lived in DC for a while (Bethesda) and we saw him out at a bar once. Tried to go up and talk about the Terps and he actually attempted to have us physically removed from the bar for trying to talk to him.
Good coach. Major asshole though.

that Luke Zeller shot was pretty awesome, but how do you let the best player 1. catch the ball and 2. get a shot off without a forearm shiver?

If Vasquez had any indication that he was a first rounder, he would have stayed in the draft. Which is what any college player should do – always take the guaranteed money.
Gary has zero personality (unless you’re a 20-something chick), but he’s a good coach. And yes, UConn does cheat.

2 reasons…first, there’s bad blood between the program and the baltimore highschool pipeline (Think Carmelo). The coach before thought he got railroaded, so he turned the Baltimore establishment against Maryland. The second reason is Gary hates recruiting, so after the nat’l title he got lazy. Plus he doesn’t deal with AAU coaches, so that also hurts him alot.
