Stanley Cup Game 7 Ratings Were Impressive
1-liner, NHL June 15th. 2009, 11:45amNHL Ratings: “… the 7.51 million average represented an enormous gain for a hockey telecast in the U.S. On Thursday, Game 4 of the N.B.A. finals attracted 16 million viewers on ABC — meaning the N.H.L. telecast drew almost half the viewership of the most recent N.B.A. telecast. Traditionally, N.H.L. games draw a TV audience only one-third to one-quarter the size of the N.B.A.’s.” Someone emailed us the hourly breakdown, and it started at 5.78 million at 8 pm, rose to 7.27 million at 9 pm, and at 10:30 the audience swelled to 9.07 million. Imagine how much the ratings will increase when Sidney Crosby signs a free agent contract with the Rangers.

Considering the entire country of Canada probably watched as well, as well as a lot of people in Europe, not too bad.

Good work hockey. It’s about time.
Are we going to see a return to Hockey Night in America?
I’m attempting to watch this soccer match. I still don’t get the rules but I’m learning. The pace is slow but at least there is scoring.

That’s great… now get hockey back on ESPN and then they can start building something. Versus is horrible. If ESPN had a drunken night of sex with Spike TV, then Versus would be the result.

I know that I got into the final series and I am not a hockey fan at all. I thought it looked great in HD.

worst thing the league could do.

I’m a casual fan at best, but once I turned on Game 7, I couldn’t stop watching. But you couldn’t pay me to watch a regular season game unless it was a major rivalry.
Not sure how the money would work out, but the NHL might be better off going with a network that will promote the hell out of them, then putting their absolute best on a major net.
