2009 NBA Draft: 12. Charlotte Bobcats
NBA Draft June 16th. 2009, 1:00pm
Last year’s lottery: Texas PG DJ Augustin 9th. It seemed curious at the time – they had Ray Felton – and Augustin was undersized. In his last college game, Derrick Rose owned him. Augustin had a terrific rookie year, averaging 11 pgg and hitting 43 percent from three.
Needs: Can the lowest scoring team in the league find some offense in free agency or the draft?
Position issues: Is Boris Diaw really a PF? Is Gerald Wallace a SG or SF? Is Okafor a PF or C?
Recent workouts: Monday, they brought in Chase Budinger, BJ Mullens and Terrence Williams.
The Pick: There’s a dire need for a shooter. Vlad Rad is a nice shooter as a 6th man; Raja Bell at 33 isn’t the gunner he once was. Budinger, despite his defensive issues, seems like a good fit. Williams also shoots the ball well, is more athletic, and a better defender. Is it a coin toss between those two? Williams could potentially be gone; if he’s not, there’s your pick.
Next year’s starting lineup looks promising: Felton/Augustin; Williams; Wallace; Diaw; Okafor. Vlad Rad as the 6th man.
13. Indiana Pacers
14. Phoenix Suns

Prediction for Charlotte:
1. The guy they pick will be good.
2. They will make the playoffs.
3. They will scare the Celtics and almost make it out of the first round.
4. Larry Brown will then resign.

They move up to get Henderson or hope he falls.
If not, Earthworm Jim all the way baby, no way in hell could they pass up that marketing opportunity.

Is Chase Budinger a poor man’s Adam Morrison minus the comedy?

Adam Morrison is the equivalent of a mega lottery winner …

Um, not really. DJ shot the ball poorly that game, but Rose rarely guarded him.

he shouldve played more in college, but yeah he looked lost. I think he’ll end up a very solid pro, potential to make an AS game or 2. He pulled out of camps because he got a guarantee to go in the top 16.

I’m just curious why you keep doing these things starting from the end. It seems to make the speculation even weirder. (e.g. – what if Ricky Rubio is still on the board, Charlotte has to take him, right?).
I can’t tell who you think is off the board at this point, nor could I yesterday.
P.S. That starting lineup looks promising – promising to suck.
