A day after coach Kevin McHale – a guy who had been with the franchise for 15 years – was cut loose, the Boston Globe floated a delicious rumor last last night (that has since been scrubbed from its website): Minnesota was talking to Phoenix about shipping double-double machine Al Jefferson and the #6 pick in the draft to the Suns for Amare Stoudemire. After everyone poo-pooed the lunacy of that deal, the Globe put up a blog post acknowledging the denials. But are one or both of these guys on the block? Amare, due to his contract, is enticing. But to give away Jefferson – who is approaching his prime – and a lottery pick is insanity. If there’s even a kernal of truth to this, the league could have found its new Isiah Thomas in David Kahn, the President of Basketball Operations in Minnesota.
