Just How Badly Does the New T-Wolves Pres. of Bball Operations Want to Shake Up the Franchise?
NBA June 18th. 2009, 3:32pm
A day after coach Kevin McHale – a guy who had been with the franchise for 15 years – was cut loose, the Boston Globe floated a delicious rumor last last night (that has since been scrubbed from its website): Minnesota was talking to Phoenix about shipping double-double machine Al Jefferson and the #6 pick in the draft to the Suns for Amare Stoudemire. After everyone poo-pooed the lunacy of that deal, the Globe put up a blog post acknowledging the denials. But are one or both of these guys on the block? Amare, due to his contract, is enticing. But to give away Jefferson – who is approaching his prime – and a lottery pick is insanity. If there’s even a kernal of truth to this, the league could have found its new Isiah Thomas in David Kahn, the President of Basketball Operations in Minnesota.

I take all T-Wolves news with a grain of salt until @kevin_love confirms it.
June 18th, 2009 at 3:39 PM
But they wouldn’t trade him for KG two years ago while they still had a good team? Amazing how stupid these Executives can be sometimes.
June 18th, 2009 at 3:42 PM
Amare is so incredibly overrated.
June 18th, 2009 at 3:42 PM
So… wait… things are gonna get worse without Kevin Mchale?
June 18th, 2009 at 3:43 PM
Is this a joke?

You actually think Al is better than Amare??? Just from a team building perspective that would be a very good trade for Minny IMO
BTW I like Al Jefferson also
June 18th, 2009 at 3:45 PM
Al Jefferson had better numbers across the board than Amare this year and he’s like 3 years younger.
June 18th, 2009 at 3:47 PM
Amare is overrated, doesn’t play defense, has iffy knees, and is considered a locker room cancer. Definitely wouldn’t give away jefferson AND a lottery pick for him.
June 18th, 2009 at 3:47 PM
No
June 18th, 2009 at 3:47 PM
His sources say that the Patriots were interested in Stoudemire, so he was trying to beat them to him.

the trade would be a steal for the Suns. Too bad the two teams never talked about the trade

So THAT is what makes Al Jefferson better than Amare (Really) …
WOW is all I can say about that
June 18th, 2009 at 3:50 PM
This reminds me of 2 other players except with a 6 year age difference. But of course your argument completely changes when discussing those 2.
June 18th, 2009 at 3:54 PM
yes.
age
rebounding.
injury history.
June 18th, 2009 at 3:56 PM
F that get Favre.
June 18th, 2009 at 3:57 PM
al is WAY better than amare…big al jeff has sick post moves, is a tenacious rebounder and is a smart player.
amare is all athleticism…which happens to be declining.
but amare is going to be wearing rec specs now, so you can’t discount that. if amare blew out a fro, wore high socks and had rec specs, he’d be my favorite bballer ever.

Well I’ll be watching Al more closely these next 3 years
Again I like Al & Amare’s injury past doesn’t effect my view of him
June 18th, 2009 at 3:58 PM
SI has Amare spelled Amar’e. when did he add the random apostrophe?
June 18th, 2009 at 3:59 PM
as a suns fan I pray this happens
June 18th, 2009 at 4:00 PM
So playing better than Amare isn’t enough to convince you that he is better than Amare? Interesting.
June 18th, 2009 at 4:00 PM
sometime last year
June 18th, 2009 at 4:01 PM
Does Amare go after Pippen in your ten top of all time?
June 18th, 2009 at 4:03 PM
Dyslexia is a thing terrible, kids.
June 18th, 2009 at 4:03 PM
Top ten all time worst pick and roll defender, steve nash also belongs on that list
June 18th, 2009 at 4:05 PM
EXPLAIN to me objectively how Al is WAY BETTER than Amare
And how many times do I have to say this (I LIKE AL Jefferson !!!)
And ALL Y’all agreeing doesn’t MEAN SHIT in regards to talking objectively about one player’s game to another player’s game
June 18th, 2009 at 4:06 PM
Numbers don’t tell the story. Ama’re draws more defensive focus, opening things up for other players. Jefferson will never be able to do that. Plus Ama’re has developed a pretty nice midrange jumper. Big Al (who’s still a pretty good player, don’t get me wrong) never leaves the paint.
June 18th, 2009 at 4:06 PM
Amare will score a lot of points but I would take Al over him any day of the week. I do think that Amare is a hell of a player but he is not going to be the franchise player on a championship team.
The Suns have done a great job of ruining that franchise. So much talent shipped off and so many draft picks given away in the last few years. The team got old in a hurry.
June 18th, 2009 at 4:09 PM
Jefferson will never be able to do that
because he isnt surrounded by good players like Amare is
June 18th, 2009 at 4:10 PM
@clown
I’m assuming you actually saw the list, Well Pippen was my #3 all-time SF right behind Elgin Baylor (#1) and Larry Bird (#2)
Amare is a PF or am I mistaken about that as well !!!
June 18th, 2009 at 4:12 PM
Numbers don’t tell the story.
@ Nick — hurt to say, didn’t it?
June 18th, 2009 at 4:13 PM
One other thing is that Jefferson just seems like he wants to have a good time and play around with his teammates. Amare is more of a killer who will do whatever it takes to win. He’s the guy you build a team around.
I don’t give a shit about Al’s stats. Any schmuck can rebound. If you need a true clutch basket, give me Amare.
June 18th, 2009 at 4:13 PM
If two teams have a conversation does it make everything imminent? Can’t they throw around names without it meaning anything is going to happen? According to this, this deal was immediately rejected:
But another source acknowledged the discussion, but also said the Suns were quickly turned down.
June 18th, 2009 at 4:15 PM

did you mean Lebron?
June 18th, 2009 at 4:15 PM
You trade Jefferson IF you believe Kevin Love can be his replacement at PF. But you don’t do it for Amare, who is debatable to give you what he gives Phoenix because you don’t have Steve Nash there to feed him the ball and could be injured.
June 18th, 2009 at 4:16 PM
And lastly, just ask the players who’s better! They KNOW how good Amare is. He’s the real deal, and the players KNOW this stuff. They have to actually play against him. I’ll take their word.

Amare can destroy you in so many ways. He can still get to the rim with ease, plus he’s got a nice jumper. Al is too one dimensional for my tastes. Amare just looks like he should be better! And he is!
June 18th, 2009 at 4:22 PM
at this point minnesota should just think about what they would normally do and then do the exact opposite
June 18th, 2009 at 4:22 PM
Beautifully done Nick.
June 18th, 2009 at 4:23 PM
Nick you semi- had me fooled with the first comment. Nice work.
June 18th, 2009 at 4:23 PM
When have I ever said Kobe was better than Lebron? You don’t even know who you’re arguing against anymore.
June 18th, 2009 at 4:25 PM
youre the 12 year old from LA right?
June 18th, 2009 at 4:26 PM
was I duped? i missed the joke here.
June 18th, 2009 at 4:27 PM
Maybe because you don’t have a rebuttal except randomly TYPING IN ALL CAPS!!!!!
June 18th, 2009 at 4:28 PM
You’re the guy who likes rape jokes, correct?
June 18th, 2009 at 4:30 PM
Bosh for Jefferson and next years #1?
June 18th, 2009 at 4:30 PM

Been a while since Bizarro NickP.
For the record, from today forward, I’ll take Jefferson, but I think Love ends up being better than both.
June 18th, 2009 at 4:33 PM
WOW is all I can say about that
June 18th, 2009 at 4:39 PM
I figured as much

Just make sure you take your “real Sport’s Knowledge” with you, it’s way to valuable to leave with the internet thugs.
June 18th, 2009 at 5:56 PM
@tallguy
And you can take your ‘oh so definitely accurate assessment’ of Amare with you along with your very scary posse of internet thugs. The internet is becoming so scary nowadays, I’m terrified.
