Although the New York media reported that all’s well between Joe Girardi and Alex Rodriguez after The $203,740 Per Game Man rode the bench in Friday’s loss to the Marlins (“fatigue”), we’re hearing that the discussion was anything but amicable. Linda Robertson of the Miami Herald reported the two “spoke sharply” behind closed doors prior to Friday’s game – A-Rod denied it, of course – but according to a Miami source, A-Rod demanded to know from Girardi “why didn’t you sit me against the Nationals?”

According to the source close to A-Rod, the Yankees original plan was to rest their star from “from time to time” after he returned from hip surgery. When A-Rod arrived late to the park Friday – he was seeing family and friends and got stuck in traffic – he was peeved to learn that Girardi had waited until the first game in Miami to rest him. We’re hearing the conversation was heated because Rodriguez had invited dozens of friends and family to the stadium.

Naturally, the talk in the fickle world of talk radio today was about Girardi and whether or not he’s losing the Yanks, who just dropped four of six to two sub-.500 teams in the NL East. The Yankees are still on top of the Wild Card standings, but as the team nears the mid-way point, lingering questions about Sabathia’s arm, Wang’s status, the Great Joba Debate, Burnett’s slow start and A-Rod’s health have the Bronx Bombers faithful feeling queasy about their spot in the AL.

Could his rift with Girardi be part of the reason A-Rod partied hard all weekend with Kate Hudson? Of course, the story would get really juicy if A-Rod would go after Girardi like these two fans did over the weekend in an empty stadium. Make note of the little kids on each side – one throws punches, another whines.
