The 12 Biggest Lightning Rods in Seattle Sports History
1-liner, College Football, NBA, NFL June 23rd. 2009, 11:35amSeattle: Steve Kelley has compiled the 12 biggest lightning rods in the city’s checkered sports history. The guys who moved the Sonics are in the Top 5, as is that cheater, Rick Neuheisel. Epic bust Brian Bosworth checks in at 8. At the top? A-Rod, of course. At this rate, he may go down as No. 1 in three cities: Seattle, Arlington, and NY. [Seattle Times]

So…a guy leaving for obscene amounts of money that Seattle wasn’t willing to pay is more hated than the two principle people in the removal of a Seattle institution? Yeah, people really need to get over their A-rod hatred…Seattle got him during his most cost effective years, who cares if he left for more money? Bennett and Schultz should be 1 and 1a on that list, period. Bennett for not even making a semi-legit effort to keep the Sonics in seattle, and Schultz for selling it to a guy that everyone knew was going to move the team.

Though I’m not sure Texas is a city, there’s no way that A-Rod would finish Number 1 in a NY poll as to the city’s greatest lightning rod in sports.

Steinbrenner has to be the biggest lightning rod in the history of New York.

Is Jim McIlvaine on the list?

Wait…A-Rod over Howard Schultz and Clay Bennett? A-Rod took the biggest deal in sports history, which any sane person would have done as well.
Schultz sold to a guy whose priority was to move the Sonics and then Bennett proceeded to do as planned and yanked the team to the Dust Bowl!
Not even close.

* A-Rod is on, but The Kid gets off? He whined way worse.
** Also – who traded Omar Vizquel for Felix Fermin and Reggie Jefferson?
*** Schultz also deserves to be noted for pulling to have Key Arena built with a seating capacity required for NHL expansion, to protect his basketball interests.

Only problem…I have a 9-5 (actually 8-4), but if covert enough, it might be able to work…
