We’ll Let Bernie Kosar Beat us in Checkers So He Wins Something
1-liner, College Football, NFL June 24th. 2009, 11:45am
Bernie Kosar: Dan LeBatard hangs out with the QB, who has fallen on hard times financially and physically, and his wife’s divorcing him. The man has a long history of losing: He was on the losing end of the greatest comeback in college football history (1984), the losing end of the Doug Flutie game (1984), the losing end of Elway’s Drive (1986), and the losing end of The Fumble (1987). I swear the dude’s a drunk, i watch him do the play by play with Donovan for the Brown’s exhibition games and i swear the dude is wasted. He’s also pretty awful on TV and i thought watching Browns pre-season football was hard enough to watch already.

If I’m down big forget Elway, Peyton, and Brady. I’m giving the ball to Frank Reich
/Not really, but damn anchoring two of the biggest comebacks in college and professional football history is pretty damn impressive

Spencer – You see this trash from Fanhouse this morning?
June 24th, 2009 at 12:57 PM
I just read that. What a f-ing moron!
I would love to have seen Tiger and Phile switch tee TIMES the first two days. Tiger was battling mother nature the whole tourney like no one else and he was still the only golfer to post three rounds in the 60’s. If he doesn’t get as unlucky as possible for the terrible weather his first two rounds, I think he wins that tourney going away.

The week before the Open they said he was better than ever because he has his best driving week ever. Now, he clunks it along and can’t putt, and he’s done. People are idiots.
on Bernie, I wrote this last night on here…
I called into LeBatard’s show for the first time today. He was on talking about his Kosar article (Sunday round-up-I sent to CRM), and how it was received so negatively, and he couldn’t understand it. He thought people should have more empathy for him (big football hero, tough times, etc).
I said how so many people down here had very little, and then lost that, and no one cares about them, so why feel sorry for a guy who had millions and lost it.
He still felt people should have compassion. Sometimes, his contrarianism surprises even me.

Dan LeBatard is a great writer, and I like that he’s also done a few interviews here. But I honestly don’t know how to feel about Kosar; Not the first story of a beaten-up former athlete who is broke, and won’t be the last either. LeBatard is so far doing a good job of making me lean towards sad, but like jpq said, there are several others who are worse off, and it’s not our fault he mismanaged his millions.

I love it when former NFL players describe their injuries and talk about how they can barely walk and are in so much pain, and then say:
“Let me tell you something, bro,” he says. “It was all worth it.”
