Amare Stoudemire to the Warriors for Steph Curry?
NBA, NBA Draft June 26th. 2009, 2:30pm
The Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors are considering a deal that would send Amare Stoudemire to Golden State in exchange for double-doubling big man Andiris Biedrins and the rights to yesterday’s first round pick Stephen Curry.
Two issues are reportedly a concern.
The Warriors are reluctant to give up Curry. He’s irrelevant to the money part of the deal, since he has no contract. But, Phoenix probably needs some selling point to the cost-oriented gutting of their team.
Golden State also wants to sign Stoudemire to an extension. A three-year max extension combined with his two-years $34 million remaining would run the Warriors about $95 million over the next five years. Can a small market NBA owner afford that? Does it make sense before the impending lockout and salary restructuring?
Also, what now becomes of the surely dispirited Steve Nash? He still has a season to kill before joining LeBron and D’Antoni with his adopted hometown New York Knicks in 2010. Do the Suns prop the popular point guard in front to save face? Or, given the current fetish for crusty all-stars with the Shaq and Vince Carter trades, does he hitch a ride with another contender?

I am still waiting for the wolves to trade that Spanish prick who wants to be like Eli Manning.
I am taking bets right now that he doesn’t play a second for the Twolves.

Small Market? Since when is the San Francisco Bay Area considered a small market?
June 26th, 2009 at 2:55 PM
Steph Curry learning behind Nash makes a lot of sense. As a Suns fan I like the deal but not if Curry isn’t there. Biedrins rebounding would be much appreciated. Also if Brendan Wright is in the deal that would be nice as well

When will then be now?

Since when is it considered a big one?
A’s are leaving. Giants threatened to leave in the 1990’s. Raiders left for a while before coming back. NHL team plays south of the bay area.

A lot of people look at at Amare picture and think he is complaining to the ref but in fact he is looking for the rebound.

What is Curry going to learn from Nash? How to compose yourself as your franchise sucks your soul right out of you? Big market or not, doesn’t Golden State boast one of the best consistent attendances in sports? That helps to afford that payroll.

I hope that pans out SC. I just think it is silly for players to ask to be drafted and then take it back when they don’t get drafted by the team they wanted to play for.
June 26th, 2009 at 3:25 PM
If I were the TWolves, I wouldn’t mind just holding his draft rights and let him mature some more in Spain. Maybe the whole ordeal may even humble the prick. Worst case scenario, they can trade his rights later or he might eventually cave and come play.

like Fran Vazquez? Orlando drafted him #11 overall in 2005. Still hasn’t played one game for Orlando

Irish is right. Trade him now while his stock is at it’s highest point.

Biedrins > Amare.
Throwing in Curry (even tho I don’t like him) is icing.

Exactly. The Magic are doing just fine, and nobody’s ever heard of Vazquez. It would serve Rubio right.

The big winner in all of this is the THunder. THat 2010 1st rounder they got from Phoenix (to go along with their own) is looking better every trade the Suns make.
I’m surprised there are no offers for Nash.
June 26th, 2009 at 5:45 PM
I’d trade Bynum for Nash straight up. Toss in Farmar if you want.
June 27th, 2009 at 10:51 AM
So the bay area is a small market now?
June 27th, 2009 at 10:52 AM
I don’t get it – for the size of his contract Biedrins is an absolute steal. I’m hoping Golden State just hangs onto Curry.
June 29th, 2009 at 4:05 PM
San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose are considered a single metropolitan area, not three. The teams contemplating moves were never because of the market being small, it was because they were having trouble getting stadiums built (nobody wanted to use public money for ball parks). The A’s are most likely going to San Jose which is still the Bay Area.
