The real estate mess, as viewed through the prism of Shaq’s house porn: Bought this ostentatious 7-bedroom, 9-bath palace in 2004 for $18 million; sold it last week for $16 million. For the non-math majors: five years of ownership, $2 million loss. Drool-worthy photos after the jump:

Brutal? @TBL – do you really think Shaq is losing any sleep over a $2M real estate loss?
June 29th, 2009 at 4:59 PM
considering that he can use that loss to offset income, he may not do too poorly on the sale.

Shaq can use that $16 million to buy one of their two buildings.

I’d like to see him run around on the tennis court.

+1
then again, we do have homes for the price of a VCR. he could buy like 8 million of those.

That $2 million would have paid for a ton of calls from a payphone though.

Shaq started out asking $35 million, and A-Rod offered like $25-$27 million two years ago, so, when you look at it that way, the $2 million hurts.
Then I remember that MY house has dropped 35% in value over the same time down here, so fuck him

you know how much food made by the road $2 million could buy? all of it.

I would guess that if he rented a house like that for 5 years, it’d cost a hell of a lot more than $2 million.

Why the hell do people keep selling their houses in this market if they don’t need the cash? It makes no sense.

No, he can’t. Losing money on selling your home is not an offset against income.

Only if you have a very crappy accountant.

Duh-Wayne Wade needs a new hook-up house. Shaq should lob him a call.
