Turkoglu to Blazers, For Five Years $50 million, Approximately
NBA July 3rd. 2009, 5:24pm
Former Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu has reportedly agreed to a five-year deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, pending Wednesday’s announcement of the 2009-10 salary cap. The contract should approximate the $50 million he wanted.
Don’t think that vaults Portland to the top. But, it should alleviate some of Roy’s ballhandling and scoring. Hollinger believes they overpaid, but it was a decent use of cap space.
Rip City Project thinks this may help Greg Oden as well.

I like this move, I mean sure they overpaid but they got some scoring help.

Thank God. New thread. Don’t tell C-Span on the other one Ty…
I hope that Rip City is right about that…Give the Bulls a lot of cap space and clear up more of that logjam at guard.

Now I can officially say that Vince Carter will not fill Hedo’s shoes in Orlando. I think the Magic will definitely take a step back. Portland most definitely will be dangerous. Now imagine if Oden produces something? anything?

if they get AMiller too, Lakers might actually have competition

Say goodbye to Rudy Fernandez

i want oden to do well, i just can’t see it happening.

I hope Oden gets it together. I read somewhere he’s working hard, but they always say that.

It’s a travishamockery. Of course, that’s not a real word, so bewildering will probably suffice.

This will make the Blaze better, but I think it will also limit them from ever getting to the top. I think they could have done better.

Cause good shooters who are under sized, don’t do anything else well, are apathetic on defense and don’t know when NOT to shoot are in short supply?
July 3rd, 2009 at 6:50 pm
why would hedo’s arrival hurt Rudy?
They still dont have a PG … Rudy, Roy, Hedo, Aldridge and pick your 5th when it matters in the 4th qtr …
Iverson to the Grizz definitely means that Memphis will be full of infighting next year

That is why TBL

Blazer need to trade one of their SF’s. No reason to keep Webster, Turk, Batum and Outlaw on the roster. Is that enough to buy a PG is another question.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Yeah, but that story is BS. Just Sheridan manufacturing stuff. The Oregonian beat writers have pretty much debunked that whole deal.
@Jumanji word is that Hinrich might be the guy. I like that for POR.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:36 pm
the only way the bulls give up hinrich is for fernandez or aldridge
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:46 pm
They should trade for Steve Nash

How in the fuck does Hedo get less money than Ben Gordon?
Ben Gordon is not a productive NBA player. In fact, he really sucks.

nickp see comment #5.
hedo should fire his agent
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:50 pm
I’m not really defending the Gordon deal, which was too big, but he gets more money than Hedo because he is 4 years younger and is an extremely good shooter from deep. He is also, as we saw against Boston, a pretty good closer, able to get his shot at the end of games.
July 3rd, 2009 at 9:52 pm
Hedo broke off talks with the Blazers.
July 3rd, 2009 at 10:35 pm
Hedo’s a better closer. I’m hearing to Toronto for 5/$56, which would make sense for Hedo.
He probably saw Ben Gordon’s deal and realized he shouldn’t make less than that p.o.s.
July 3rd, 2009 at 10:46 pm
I don’t know about you, but I’ll take Gordon’s superior shooting and willingness to go inside over Hedo’s step-back threes.
Or, if you like 82games, you could see that Gordon shoots 46% in the last five minutes of close games, while Turk shoots 34%. But that might just be me.
July 3rd, 2009 at 10:51 pm
There’s more to the game than shooting. You have to play D at the end of close games, too. And create for others. And rebound.
But of course I can be equally dismissive and say, but that’s just me.
July 3rd, 2009 at 11:22 pm
Yeah, I’m just explaining the thinking of his suitors, because he can be the one guy to take the shot. Also, I was really not being dismissive: I wasn’t sure how those stats would be received. Sometimes they’re good and sometimes they’re not.
