Manny Ramirez, in Addition to Being a Cheater, is Cheap
1-liner, Baseball July 7th. 2009, 10:30amManny Ramirez: The tradition for major leaguers who take a brief dip in the minors is to buy their low-wage collecting teammates dinner. “Manny Ramirez, in five minor league games split between Albuquerque and Inland Empire (San Bernardino) chose not to buy the spread for either his Isotopes or 66ers teammates.” The blogger who wrote this claims that in 13 years of covering minor league baseball, he’s never heard of a big-leaguer pulling a stunt like that. Even Randy Johnson dropped $3k at a Steakhouse in 2007. [The Hive]

Just Manny being
Mannyan asshole.Dude makes millions and can’t at least buy some doughnuts for the clubhouse? What a jerk.

come on, manny lost 50 games checks, the guy is hurting financially, you can’t expect him to extend some kindness to the little guys who were exactly where he was a few years ago, minus the steroids.
wanker.

He probably has Twinkies and Fruit Roll-ups stuffed in his glove compartment and just ate those. He doesn’t strike me as someone aware of proper etiquette for anything.

Sports Illustrated ran an exerpt from some new book on David Beckham, and apparently he never picked up the tab for his Galaxy teammates (who of course are paid little more than minor leaguers). If Manny really wants me to dislike him then he’s finally succeeded.

+! fruit roll up reference.
anyone else occasionally torn between fruit roll ups and gushers?

Dude is a great baseball player, but is not a smart man. He has no financial understanding, AT ALL. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised that this handlers are spending 99% of his earnings.
He drove a used Chevy Nova during his entire stay in Cleveland. His claim was that he didn’t want to run out of money by buying another car.
He doesn’t spend money on anything, period.
Still a cheap bastard for not paying for it all in the minors. Where is his agent in this? Part of his commission is to help Manny out, right? The agent should be giving his that advice.

This is the beauty of Manuel “Manny” Aristides RamÃrez Onelcida.

Great, here comes the story about how Manny is helping poor underprivileged Latinos in Los Angeles.

Nope, gushers always win

Why are we still pretending that Manny is somehow unaware of reality? Dude works his ass off at hitting, and now we know he takes it seriously enough to roid up. I’m not saying he’s the sharpest knife in the drawer, but this he’s a child stuff really should have stopped by now.

Didn’t Simmons once write about how he got to go out with the Red Sox one time, and Manny didn’t pick up the bill. His buddy who didn’t make very much money did. I don’t know why I have a vague memory of this.

wheels: i think you’re right, but i also think david ortiz or someone else found manny’s credit card in his locker and almost had the waiter charge it, something like a $5k dinner.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:01 AM
i think the story said papi made it so manny paid somehow but wasn’t aware or some shit

I thought it was David Ortiz, but I could be wrong as well.

nice list.

Never, Gushers are the bomb. I have a pack with lunch every day, in fact I get pissed when my wife forgets to buy them or gets the damn mixed flavor. Earned my treat.

While I was in grad school, I was once witnessed Brett Favre and his posse walk out on a $2000 bar tab.
/and ruin the bar’s carpet with dip spit
//the same year he was having his painkiller addiction problems

Ortiz sounds right … I just had a vague memory of Manny being the highest paid guy there and not wanting to pay
July 7th, 2009 at 11:08 AM
Manny’s also the guy with a locker full of uncashed paychecks, per the Simmons article. But that’s beside the point. The Isotopes and the 66ers can’t pay their players enough so that they can afford their own dinner? How the hell can they expect to compete? Contract them both!

i was upset until i read…
how can you hate an athlete like that?
brett favre! he’s just like me!
/except he’s got all that pesky talent and charisma

i think the story from simmons was that manny had a whole bunch of uncashed checks in his locker. Same article, he mentioned how ortiz took his amex and was going to charge the whole dinner to him but for some reason felt bad. I doubt he even looks at his bills, or knows what they are
