MLB’s Missing the YouTube Boat
1-liner, Baseball, NBA July 28th. 2009, 12:45pm
MLB vs NBA: Awesome moment in baseball last night – Alfonso Soriano drills a walk-off grand slam to centerfield in the 13th and much showboating followed. He posed as the ball majestically rose to center. He pointed at his wife and kids in the front row. And then, just before he was rounding third base and Wrigley was whipped into a frenzy, Soriano went there: He did “I can’t feel my face,” which is an outstanding celebration mostly used in the NBA, and sometimes in the NFL. It was the kind of moment we’d like to see over and over on YouTube – sort of like how we can watch just about any NBA highlight, ever. But MLB prevents this. As we’ve noted before, searching for the Holy Grail is easier than finding classic MLB moments from the last 25 years. We think this hurts the MLB big-time, especially with younger fans who live on the internet. How badly would we like to see a Kevin Maas compilation video of all the bombs he hit in that memorable summer of 1990? Our Don Mattingly memories from 20 years ago are fading – but they wouldn’t be if we could watch that sweet lefty swing on YouTube over and over and over again.

Really? I guess if you like showboating bullshit, the NBA’s your thing and you’d find MLB boring. But bemoaning a dearth of classic MLB moments only proves you’re not much of a fan, because the instances are legion. What’s a guy supposed to do? Throw talcum powder in the air before every at bat?

It is annoying as hell you can’t embed MLB videos. Not sure why they don’t allow that.

fantastic! I always thought that looked a little lame when you see it only goes up about 6 inches and only looks good from a low angle.

-Oh know, what have I done?!

Crooked – Fine, maybe not showboating highlights. But pick your favorite player from the 80s. what if you vaguely remember a joe orsulak grab with the O’s. can you find it?
canseco moon shots. the kevin mitchell 1-handed catch. clemens 20 ks. you name it.

I can find a video of Tim Raines snorting coke with Keith Hernandez, is that a good 80’s vid, TBL?

You sir, are obviously not a wrestling fan.
What the FUCK would “I can’t feel my face” mean????
(What the FUCK does “You can’t see me” mean?????)

Soriano was on RAW pretty recently, the Miz punked him out, kind of cruelly actually. It’s kind of amusing to imagine that Soriano was thinking “I’m like John Cena” after he hit a homerun.

Not that it matters, but John Cena got that from rapper, Tony Yayo.

rickey henderson. barry bonds. both played in ther 80’s known for showboating. dont bring it up like showboating just got invented.it was a grand slam at the end of an extra long game he earned the right to celebrate. hell manny ramirez fucking posed like he hit the game winning shot when all he did was hit a homer in a game his team was getting beat. and do you know how rare it is for soriano to get a hit with runners on base?

who stole it from tupac

Hopefully that’s the last Yayo reference on this site.

My father has an irrational hatred of Henderson because of how he acted after he broke Lou Brock’s steals record. I think I’ve heard him bitch about it at least thirty times.

Cam has nice beats, but listening to his lyrics could give you a stroke.
Go to YouTube and check out the fake HP Cam’ron ad.

What Barry Sanders rout…. ohhhhh I see what you did there.
July 28th, 2009 at 1:29 PM
the 3rd baseman should have done this to Soriano
July 28th, 2009 at 1:36 PM
Bambaataa is the originator of i can’t feel my face/you can’t see me?
in a somewhat related note, i have this song on my ipod

i am not all for the showing off etc; however i will say this – is there any organization other than the mlb that allen ‘bud’ selig should be in charge of? seriously i would not want this guy in charge of my fantasy league. it is not that i cannot stand selig – it is just that he and the other members of the baseball brain trust and i use that term very casualy – have done more harm to the game than anything else.
also i wish that i could have an interim job for better than 15 years.
on topic though – it would be nice to queue up some old world series highlights or some games that you remember watching or attending.
July 28th, 2009 at 1:47 PM
also yes soriano you hit a walk off slam – with that celebration i hope that there are several pitchers that manage to send a fastball or two that finds the earhole of your helmet.
you are professional – act like you have been there

As Souvenir City and I discussed in the Yardwork thread, Soriano’s antics were lame. He did it from about halfway around second until he crossed home. The guy’s OBP is less than .300 and if it wasn’t for Milton Bradley, he’d be the most hated ball player in Chicago.
I’ve seen Soriano pull that “you can’t see me” shit before. It’s only a matter of time before he gets a fastball between the shoulder blades or even in his fucking earhole.

I’m sure MLB owners (who Selig works for) are crazy upset about the record revenue and attendance.

clown – there are some things that will make money no matter who is in charge. i should have been a little more clear on my point.
the business side of baseball is absolutely printing money.
the game side, due to PEDs and things have suffered.
from the time that the owners canceled the 1994 world series i would say they have slightly been ahead in the baseball world, though the players union has eroded some of that away. perhaps the owners knowledge of PEDs was overlooked as the players performance was overlooked as long as the turnstiles were spinning.
