Blazers Lock Up Brandon Roy, Let the Good Times Roll
1-liner, NBA August 6th. 2009, 2:00pmBrandon Roy in Portland: This season, Portland’s best player will make a paltry $3.9 million, making him the 7th highest paid player on the team. Beginning next year, he’ll clear $15 million per. Now that they’ve locked in Roy, the goal will be LaMarcus Aldridge. Third priority: Keep Greg Oden healthy, and teach him how not to foul. Love Portland’s outlook for next year: Andre Miller, Brandon Roy, Travis Outlaw, Aldridge and Oden. The bench is decent with Rudy Fernandez, but Portland will need Martell Webster healthy and hitting again to really be an upper echelon team in the West. Not point in getting into ‘what might have been’ when they were jilted by Hedo. [Oregonian]

will the lakers even make the playoffs?

Greg Oden is clinically depressed

Nice nucleus, they’ve built pretty well. The west is just relentless.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:06 PM
OSU just keeps pumping out that top tier pro talent don’t they?
August 6th, 2009 at 2:07 PM
Portland will give Aldridge a huge deal too. If Benjamin Button plays some D and boards there is no reason for Portland not to be playing for the 3rd spot out west.

Obvious move.

yes
August 6th, 2009 at 2:10 PM
I didn’t see any Wolverines on the Redeem Team.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:17 PM
There was a good article on Oden in the Dispatch last week. He knows this is the year to put up or let irishmafia-likes enjoy hating for the next 10 years.

wally you see that all ohio team won the aau nationals (again). few kids on that team going to osu.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:21 PM
might have to start paying attention to osu hoops again.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:22 PM
@wally- i knew you would comment on this post. I hope you saw that Orlando has 24 nationally televised games this year. you get a chance to watch some games this year

Only because Louis Bullock had prior commitments.

Ha ha ha ha. Benjamin Button? That’s awesome. +1
Not on the All-Ohio Red team but have you heard of Deshaun Thomas?

good for Rambis. Sun Yue looks like he might end up with the Eastern Conference Champs next year
August 6th, 2009 at 2:31 PM
Half of the not to foul part will come with the refs taking their dicks out of his ass now that he’s not a “rookie.” The other half is on him.
Portland actually lucked into a pretty good offseason with Hedo and the Jazz doing them big favors. Love Miller for that team, and they still have some flexability with their trade exemption and lots of young cheap talent to try and rip someone off with a trade later this year.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:33 PM
yeah hes supposed to be awesome. you follow him ndub?
August 6th, 2009 at 2:37 PM
I do. In fact, I covered him his first three years in HS. I’m not a sportswriter anymore but I’m still in the city. The guy is sensational. So strong with great footwork and finishing at the hoop. Can shoot the 3 and the J. Needs to better his ballhandling, but at 6-foot-7+ I’m not sure how completely important that is. Dominates some pretty good competition. He needs 881 points to beat Damon Bailey’s state scoring record, which means he needs to average 34/game. He’s been about 31/game but I’ve seen him easily drop 40+ a night.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:39 PM
Also, he’s a damn fine passer, recognizes the double (and triple and quadruple teams like he saw in state tourney) and finds the open man. He’s got a great basketball IQ.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:44 PM
he has one of those sweet lefty strokes. that would be a huge deal considering hs hoops in indiana. have to wonder where jimmy chitwood would be on that list if he played all 4 years.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:46 PM
How cool would it be for Rambis to be able to play the “That’s not how Magic used to do it” card on Rubio? Assuming they both go to the Wolves.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:46 PM
does he shoot a ton of 3s? any highlights ive seen are usually him burying 3s.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:48 PM
No idea. I’m not a true Hoosier hysteria type guy. I do know that Damon Bailey played against a lot of small, white kids. Although he was a damn good player, I know Thomas plays in the state’s second biggest city and against a lot of inner-city kids in a tough conference. I’m not sayin, I’m just sayin.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:53 PM
He does. He’s about a 30 percent shooter, maybe a tad higher. Sometimes he falls in love with it instead of getting his ass on the block and dominating the minions. He can be streaky, but when he’s on, he’s on. I’ve seen him hit 4-5 in a row, but I’ve seen him take 10 (even when he’s relatively open) and miss eight.
August 6th, 2009 at 2:53 PM
haha i know. chitwood is the kid from hoosiers
August 6th, 2009 at 2:59 PM
I’ve got him 64-of-208 (31%) on threes in 27 games. He’s taken Bishop Luers to back-to-back state titles.
August 6th, 2009 at 3:00 PM
seems a little like zach randolph
August 6th, 2009 at 3:03 PM
Minus the thug life mentality and the whole vastly overweight thing.
August 6th, 2009 at 3:35 PM
Really? Man. That’s awesome. Maybe some of those will even be on TV in the Midwest. You know, satellite stations don’t always carry Orlando, even if they say they are going to. I can’t wait to actually view a game or two next year so I don’t have to qualify everything for you.
/sarcasm’d
//necessary to tag it as such?

just busting balls Wally
August 6th, 2009 at 3:43 PM
It’s all good. It was a good bust. Just wanted a little sarcasm to spice up the day a bit.
Your comments made me miss all the Deshaun Thomas stuff. He is REALLY good. OSU has a loaded bunch coming in 2010 with Sullinger, Sibert, Thomas, and a couple of others that are all rated Top 50. If Turner and Buford stay for another year (big IF, especially for 1 of 2), they will be a Final 4 contender again.
