Mike Singletary, What a Swell Guy – He Put Family Before Football, and Look at Him Now!
NFL, Video August 6th. 2009, 9:00am
San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary is a hero to us all – the kind of guy willing to drop his pants in the locker room to inspire greatness; the kind of guy who doesn’t make a sideline reporter feel bad as she makes two painful-to-watch errors; and the kind of guy who was a dominant, a heat-seeking missile of a middle linebacker who won a Super Bowl and made it to the Hall of Fame. And he saved his crumbling marriage to the woman who once said, “I’d sure like to meet someone like him who is white.”
One morning at the kitchen table Kim laid it all out for me. My divided attention, leaving the hard work of parenting up to her, tending to my career first at the expense of all else. “You have to be here for us, with us. With me. This family has to come before football.” … It took me five years of marriage, but I finally figured out what’s really important in life. Football is a big part of who I am. But not as big as my wife and kids, in terms of who I am off the field—a man of God and a family man.
It’s a gripping tale, really. The kind that’ll have us rooting for the 49ers this season. (They’re going to be pretty good, too – as long as they sign Crabtree soon.) The kind of story that makes us feel good about predicting the 49ers will be a Super Bowl contender in 2011.
How 49ers coach Mike Singletary found balance between his career and marriage (Guidepost)

“Guideposts”? Aren’t those the little religious pamphlets that the Jehovah’s Witnesses leave at the laundromat?

I think every first round pick has bust written all over him.

Well I put my wife, playstation, and sleeping in ahead of my job, why doesn’t someone interview me?

I respect Singletary. I just hope he has the success that keeps him at his job.

And I’m guessing if it’s the PS3 with a flatscreen 42′ LCD and Bose surround sound system, that the playstation has nights where it comes in ahead of the wife.

Hey PMCKENNE, while your throwing out predictions can you give me the winning numbers to tomorrow’s Mega Millions? That would be great.
Coach Singletary is a class act, the Niners have made one bad decision after another, but hiring him has me pumped to be a 49er once again.
Great quote:
“You know what? This is how I believe. I’m from the old school. I believe this: I would rather play with 10 people and just get penalized all the way until we got to do something else, rather than play with 11 when I know that right now that person is not sold out to be a part of this team. It is more about them than it is about the team. Cannot play with them. Cannot win with them. Cannot cope with them. Can’t do it. I want winners. I want people that want to win.”

I could actually see the 49ers finishing at 8-8 this season which would be an improvement overthe last couple of years. As a 49ers fan I actually optimistic about the upcoming season.

Possible, specially in that division.

i have a friend who played qb in college. they played baylor when singletary was there. both head coaches were friends so the teams met at midfield and singletary led both teams in prayer. 5 minutes later he is standing over center eyes bugging out calling my friend every name in the book.

I have always been a San Fran fan due to being a front runner at the age of 7 (and they fact that my brother loved the Cowboys), and it seems like maybe, just maybe they are on a slight upswing. Of course if Crabtree busts than that could all end so quickly.

This is true for more than just black folks Tampa.

Dont get pissed that i called crabtree soft. It’s a fact. He never played an injury free season in college, why do you think he will in the association?

I am infinitely and eternally happy that the Falcons did not hire this nutjob. Uh boy what psycho.

if crabtree being healthy is so important, the team is lame
