Tim Cowlishaw Has Something in Common with Josh Hamilton
1-liner, Heavy Drinking, Media Gossip/Musings August 10th. 2009, 1:15pmTim Cowlishaw: “I watched the Cowboys lose to the Eagles, 44-6, last December from my room at Parkland Hospital after suffering a fractured skull of undetermined origin. When Josh says he’s foggy on the details of his drinking in Arizona, I’m right there with him in the fog. How I got into an ambulance to go to Parkland will remain one of my life’s little mysteries.” This is a terrific read that ends with: “So, we’re at three months without a drink now, but who’s counting?” [Dallas Morning News, Josh Hamilton's Wife, Hamilton Enjoying a Diet Coke]

When you chuck a bottle, how is it NOT going to find Cowlishaw’s massive dome?

Congrats, Tim. Stay strong

Thanks for the link to that article.
Probably, the best piece I’ve seen from anyone in the press on this issue since the Hamilton pictures first surfaced. I can’t even imagine the temptations Hamilton faces on a road trip.
As for Cowlishaw, being a writer, there is almost a romanticism about writers and their drinking habits, no? Can’t be easy to deal with.
Good luck to both of them.

Wow. Fantastic read. Cowlishaw really tore out his chest with this one.
Alcohol is a messed up thing. I’ve had a lot of fun on it and done some stupid things on it. But I’m glad I can control myself in that I don’t get an urge to drink and cave to it. Unfortunately, many people can’t. Best of luck to Hamilton and Cowlishaw.

I think you’re on the right track. Journalists, especially those in sports, worked effed up hours. You’re up and out late almost all the time. Most of the drinking time is very late in the evening. It’s a weak connection, but it’s there and it happens.

I’m almost tempted to send a massive email to Tim in regards to my situation, which practically mirrors Tim’s except for the skull splitter. But I hesitate to do so as there are so many more stories just like, or worse than Josh’s, Tim’s, or mine. I’m sure it’ll be cathartic on my part, but I could very easily do the same on my own personal blog. Yup, it’s really tough to stop at 2 drinks for some of us. I’m still struggling.

Best of luck staying straight, devang.

the career he has chosen to continue in definitely is going to bring struggles to him. I can’t speak for him, but I made a decision to not work in fields that would put me in front of a drink. the way i look at it; if you hangout in a barbershop long enough, eventually you will get a haircut.

i probably would have been scared straight from alcohol had the show intervention been around when i was in high school. can’t tell you how many times i see that show with alcoholics and a little part of my brain knows that could be me if i had a sliver less self control.
