They’re Gone: BJ Raji and Michael Crabtree
1-liner, NFL August 13th. 2009, 2:15pmNFL Holdouts: Michael Crabtree’s agent is a doofus. “Eugene Parker wants seventh-pick money and it’s not going to happen … The 49ers are not going to cave in … It would have catastrophic effects for their futures in the league.” Crabtree’s gone home and isn’t expected to sign until the final week of the preseason. Fantasy impact? Gamble on Crabtree – who doesn’t have a good QB throwing to him – in the very late rounds, if at all. It appears as if Green Bay’s first round pick, DT BJ Raji, will be a September signee, if at all. He’s left Green Bay, also over contract squabbles. Fantasy impact? The Packers open with offensively-challenged Chicago, Cincinnati and St. Louis, but last year’s 26th ranked defense against the rush could struggle against Forte and Steve Jackson without a big run-stopper in the middle. these pricks and their sense of entitlement. dont they realize their earning potential is a few years?
i dont see chicago being offensively challenged this year.

I like how Crabtree feels like he is owed by the 49ers because he decided to fall to 10. That was pretty nice of him, though.

How’s Chicagos O-line?

I think they realize their earning potential now.

Because 5 Mil per year is just not enough…

Bam! For most of them this will be the biggest contract they sign before failing out of the league. Get Paid Now.

This guy’s actions are only going to make us 49er fans dislike him. I’m already at the point where I am tired of him. He was the 10th pick and the 2nd receiver taken, just sign already!
I really am hoping that Patrick Willis gives him a “welcome to the NFL”-hit once this dude makes it to practice.
I am all for these guys making money, but this guy/agent/cousin/advisor is out of his mind if he thinks he can ask for 7th pick/1st receiver money.

i could see why this might be a work ethic that, if it came through during negotiations, would prompt me to not sign a guy long term.
and i’m actually surprised that these guys don’t try to go for fewer years and a moderate bonus and play their heart out to get a massive payday. or pull a jay culter.

Do you not get Big 12 games in Cali? Crabtree was easily the best player in that draft.
August 13th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
fail.
if you’re going by college production, andre smith was the best player in that draft…EASILY.

In my opinion the PR hit is the one legitimate reason not to do these holdouts. As far as a “welcome to the NFL hit” if the veterans don’t like the way rookies are paid in the NFL (which they don’t) they should take it up with their union (which they don’t).
In a sport with the very real possibility of career threatening injury not necessarily a good plan. I don’t understand your knock on work ethic. What does a player using his leverage to get more money have to do with work ethic? When the owner’s use their leverage over a player that is the most natural thing in the world, but when a player does it he’s a disrespectful bum.

Hakeem Nicks was easily the best player in that draft
/first one!

Crabtree is going to drown in a therapy pool recovering from pulled hammies and quads his entire career
/B.U.S.T.
//book it

Spence, don’t you know? Michael Crabtree is one of his favorite teams.

I live in TX, so yeah I saw plenty of Big XII games. College success does not equal success in the NFL. I am going strictly by where he was drafted.

There isn’t a hard slotting system in the NFL, only vague “way things are done.” In baseball the more talented players fall precisely because they are going to be more expensive. He can ask for whatever he wants, doesn’t mean the 49ers have to give it to him, but it’s not unreasonable to try.

Andre Smith looked like shit on Hard Knocks.
August 13th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
I liked how even his soon to be teamates were ragging on him during meetings.
August 13th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Please call his bluff, SF. Let him sit on his coke-slinging, injury-prone ass for another season and get drafted in the 3rd round next year. What a piece of shit.
August 13th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
If I was the GM of a team under the cap at all I would be offering next years No.2 for Crabtree. Then I would let him sit and stew until he decided to fire his idiot agent. The cash squeeze will set in soon for Crabtree and his agent. Those banks, car dealerships and jewerly stores that have extended him credit or cash are going to start to pressure him if it looks like he is going to go back into the draft in 2010.
August 13th, 2009 at 3:32 pm
The Bears signed Orlando Pace. That’s an indicator.
I think Mike Williams should do Crabtree a favor and place a call to him. Sitting out a year is football suicide.
Sitting out two… you know where I’m going with this.

sucks he wasn’t drafted as such…take 10th pick money and earn your paychecks
August 13th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
Crabtree needs to get to camp ASAP. Based on college production was he the best receiver in the draft yes, but unfortunately for him he wasn’t faster than Darius Howard Bey so old man Al Davis didn’t draft him. Take 10th pick money and get on the field. Does anybody even know what the 49ers were offering him?
