Sasha Vujacic: From On the Scene and Shooting 3’s to Cut from the Slovenian National Team

Remember two seasons ago when Sasha Vujacic of the Lakers was a budding 3-point specialist? He was scoring eight points a night off the bench while hitting 43 percent from downtown. A spark off the bench, Vujacic never met a jump shot he didn’t like – whether it was off-balance, or with a hand in a his face mattered not – and the then-23-year-old was rapidly becoming a fan favorite in LA.

Last season, his confidence disappeared, his 3-point percentage tanked (36 percent). He never played more than five minutes a game in the Finals against Orlando; a year before in the Finals against the Celtics, he was playing about 20 minutes a night. The news gets worse: He was just cut from the Slovenian National team. Curious about that roster? It has three mediocre (at best) NBA players: Primoz Brezec, Beno Udrih, and Goran Dragic, and one former player (Bostjan Nachbar).

How does a guy who is making $5 million this year and next for the Lakers get cut from the Slovenian National team?

If you only saw the games during the mere moments he played, you’d think Kobe was one of his supporting cast. This guy bites. A shooter who can’t shoot. A lockdown defender who’s easy to beat. An out of position flopper. An internet tough guy.
