Hilary Duff … does this man have the craziest name of any killer this year? … beware swine flu this winter – 2 million people could get it … lobster-boat racing circuit, anyone? … lesson: When in Boston (or anywhere, really), back down from fights because you never know when you can run into a lethal street gang … geez, this is sick and depressing … Aaliyah died eight years ago yesterday … first read this, and then read the local reaction – hilarious … how do you get lost twice in Alaska in one summer? … how Michigan picks songs for football practices … Ted Kennedy, 77, dies of brain cancer … obviously fake “MJ is alive!” video …
Donaghy violated probation when he didn’t show up for work, and thus he was thrown back in jail. His lawyer says he had permission to be at a health club to exercise his knee. The halfway house says otherwise. (ESPN)

Which college football coach said it? “You’ve got 19,000 students here. You’ve got a lot of cute girls out there. There’s a lot of things going on. Guys have to focus. We’re trying to reel them in.” (Paper Redacted)
A reader would like to add NC State’s TJ Graham to the list of fastest college football players. He best in the 100m is a 10.22. (NC Runners)

Jay Glazer just tweeted that Mark Sanchez has been named the Jets starter. He didn’t specify if it was for the next preseason game or the season opener. the opener is my guess.

Tampa didn’t know because Mangino ate the test results.

I’d much rather know how a sucsessful college football program picks songs.

but will he survive a beating at the hands of the texans, pats and titans? mario williams must be salivating after seeing dancing sanchez monday night. i think his 3 completions were RB, RB, TE.

Did the tweet include some Jay-like tirades against ESPN at the end of it?

ding ding ding winner and I agree with “The Black Prince of Yonkers” in the comments section.
August 26th, 2009 at 8:17 AM
tbl- you just don’t want him to play in those games because it completely screws up your preview.
August 26th, 2009 at 8:19 AM
Not sure the Pats defense is the dominant force you think it will be. The Hoodie will surely confuse Sanchez, but it’s not like the Pats’ defense is going to be great this year. I didn’t watch the game against Baltimore, but did Sanchez look that bad?
August 26th, 2009 at 8:22 AM

With two preseason games left doesnt this seem a bit early to name him the starter? What if he goes out and completely bombs this week?
August 26th, 2009 at 8:22 AM
sanchez looked overwhelemed when i watched. the pats may not be crushing like the ravens, but they are just as smart and just as confusing to a young QB. pats are probably going with a more prevalent 4-3 defense this year as well, definitely have the DLine to pressure the QB.
August 26th, 2009 at 8:23 AM
So I guess Nantz and Simms are still going to Houston week 1 instead of covering a deserving game involving playoff teams, like Dolphins/Falcons
August 26th, 2009 at 8:23 AM
The Texans defense has a few talented guys, but it’s hardly scary. The Pats defense is still aging in some key spots and the guys they brought in are either old (Springs) or really, really young (Butler). The Titans are two years removed from being an elite defense and have some key guys (Bullocks, Harper) who are really long in the tooth, not to mention they lost the most dominant defensive player in football.
Me thinks you’re just starting to waffle on Sanchez somehow being an 88 rating NFL QB as a rookie.
August 26th, 2009 at 8:24 AM
sparty – i’d like him to survive. and to open 0-3 could really be a serious confidence killer.
actually, now that i think about it … a 4-12 season would be better than 8-8. what’s the point of being .500, missing the playoffs, and getting a pick in the 10-15 range … 4-12 would probably ensure a top 5 pick.
im thinking the kid run-stopper from OU to be the heir to kris jenkins at DT
August 26th, 2009 at 8:30 AM
That would be embarrassing to lose to your own team.
August 26th, 2009 at 8:32 AM
sanchez gives you the same chance to win the first 3 weeks as clemens. right move by the jets. 8-8 gives you something to build off of. but if you had a top 5 pick, and you want a run-stopper you get NDAMUKONG SUH!

are you all over Tysons DAILY for lunch? the talent in that mall …

If I had a crappy football team, i’d pretty much rather have the 10th pick that any of the first 4 picks.

The Buffalo Bills annually seem to agree with this sentiment
August 26th, 2009 at 8:49 AM
just b/c you’re 4-12 doesn’t mean you get a good player in the draft.

I watched that tasering story all the way to the end, and not to go all Lou Dobbs on you dudes, but the tasered pregnant chick ended up in the hands of the INS, due to some documentation issues.
August 26th, 2009 at 8:51 AM
I’d say he got off easy.
August 26th, 2009 at 8:53 AM
The Buffalo Bills annually seem to agree with this sentiment
they then trade that pick for next year’s 23. That’s their problem.

@dirt, can’t watch the video at work, what happened to make the police taser a pregnant woman?
August 26th, 2009 at 8:55 AM
Donaghy violated probation when he didn’t show up for work
not too far from where i work
August 26th, 2009 at 8:57 AM
Oh boy. I think Sanchez will be good, but I think this is a mistake. It’s not guarantee it’ll win you games and there is no guarantee that it will be beneficial to Sanchez’s long term development (which should really be the concern this year, considering you just invested a shitload of $$ in him).
I would love to see some sort of study of rookie QBs that went on to successful careers starting under center on Opening Day.
August 26th, 2009 at 8:57 AM
@dirt, can’t watch the video at work, what happened to make the police taser a pregnant woman?
Loud party, loud baptism party, with people of “south of the border” heritage. Noise complaint, cops come, old non-english speaking man doesn’t give them any trouble (in our translated by his son version of events), they triple taser him for not giving his ID quick enough. He’s on the ground, the pregnant girl, also mouthy comes to his aid, gets tasered in the back for her trouble. She is arrested for assaulting an officer, and once there, turns out to be perhaps illegally in the country. Internal Affairs investigating.

That feces mother could be one of the worst people ever.
August 26th, 2009 at 9:01 AM
fantastic. where would the public’s wrath against law enforcement be without the montly tasering of pregnant women and old people? is there a quota we don’t know about?
August 26th, 2009 at 9:01 AM

August 26th, 2009 at 9:02 AM
So does Sanchez move into the 9 o’clock slot now?
August 26th, 2009 at 9:05 AM
It’s for the season. Might as well, Clemens is dogshit anyway.
August 26th, 2009 at 9:08 AM
i dunno…clemens is terrible, but you don’t wanna “david carr” sanchez right off the bat. he needs some seasoning.

If we’re going to throw “heritage” into the description, it might be germane to add that the cops were also, er, “south of the border” too.
August 26th, 2009 at 9:18 AM
If we’re going to throw “heritage” into the description, it might be germane to add that the cops were also, er, “south of the border” too.
Mike, I didn’t pick that up. The police spokeswoman was of that heritage, based on name. Are you basing that on the looks of the cops? I can see that. I don’t see the cops names listed anywhere.
I was actually just qualifying my earlier Lou Dobbs style comment about the INS.
August 26th, 2009 at 9:21 AM
but you don’t wanna “david carr” sanchez right off the bat.
I’ll bet David Carr has a hard time even watching football without bracing himself to get hammered. NFL PTSD, for sure.

fantastic. where would the public’s wrath against law enforcement be without the montly tasering of pregnant women and old people? is there a quota we don’t know about?
don’t forget the beatings and questionable shootings they seem to enjoy handing out to completely innocent victims
August 26th, 2009 at 9:27 AM
thanks for reminding me, i nearly forgot about the 80 year old crazy lady in the wal mart parking lot and the mother of two pulled over for false reasons.
August 26th, 2009 at 9:31 AM
i would lose it if my pregnant wife was being tasered. Tasers are a joke and are abused by the police.
August 26th, 2009 at 9:32 AM
Yes. But mostly I was just having a little fun.
August 26th, 2009 at 9:33 AM
if david carr would have learned to just get rid of the ball, he wouldn’t have fucked his head up so much.
August 26th, 2009 at 9:36 AM
if david carr would have learned to just get rid of the ball, he wouldn’t have fucked his head up so much.
Fuck David Carr, I had to watch five years of 3 yard outs on 3rd and 8 because he sucked so much. Chris Palmer too.
August 26th, 2009 at 9:36 AM
in the short time tasers have been used it looks like it has been the defualt method for defusing a situation, replacing effective evaluation of the situation. for more inexperienced law enforcement officers it seems to be used incorrectly more frequently.
August 26th, 2009 at 9:42 AM
i’d like to pile on the chris palmer hate…
FUCK chris palmer. ruined the first two seasons of browns 2.0.
August 26th, 2009 at 9:42 AM
I read the Washington Post piece yesterday. Good read. The two reporters Yanda and Prisbell have been doing a number of angles on recruiting this year. They did a few pieces on what a mess the AAU world is. Funny thing with the NCAA is that everyone knows how dirty recruiting high school players is now. But there is no call for change. If the NCAA continues to let this happen college basketball is going to suffer the same image problem that the NBA has.
August 26th, 2009 at 9:43 AM
Exactly.
August 26th, 2009 at 9:48 AM

tampa: beat me to it. it’s become too easy to use when the officer is afraid of a confrontation
August 26th, 2009 at 9:58 AM
forgot to add this also
August 26th, 2009 at 10:12 AM
so as the guy is simply handing his license to the cops, as asked, he gets tasered 3 times. then the pregnant lady simply looking to see whats going on gets tasered as well for no reason at all. sounds like an open and shut case, lets wrap it up!!
August 26th, 2009 at 10:15 AM
PKI- Heard about that guy on the radio this morning. What an idiot.
TBL- Xmas season at Tysons I have my head on a swivel.
August 26th, 2009 at 10:17 AM
Why I have never been tasered …
A. I’m not a jackass.
B. I respect and obey the laws.
C. I respect my fellow man.
D. I respect authority in volatile situations.
E. I don’t socialize with jackasses.
F. I’m Caucasian.
G. Answers A-E.
H. All of the above.
August 26th, 2009 at 10:18 AM
for me?
gotta go with F.
August 26th, 2009 at 10:21 AM
F surely helps. I’ve never heard of anybody being pulled over for Driving While White.
August 26th, 2009 at 10:25 AM
Whenever I got in a about to be tazed situation I just scream “Don’t taze me bro!” and that usually gives the cops a good chuckle… before they do it anyway.
August 26th, 2009 at 10:34 AM
you forgot to add:
(I.) I haven’t yet run across a trigger happy cop who is unable to correctly assess and diffuse a situation without using force, and is able to escalate the situation by incorrectly communicating with the parties involved. (see mom arrested and tazed in front of kids, “don’t tase me bro”, Amadou Diallo, etc)
August 26th, 2009 at 10:50 AM
For me it would have to be F. I’ve been a jackass and I’ve disrespected the laws, my fellow man, and authority all in one night. Luckily since I am caucasian I was only thrown in the drunk tank for the night.
August 26th, 2009 at 11:39 AM
So TBL…do you want to set up a series of wagers for the Saints-Jets game?
August 26th, 2009 at 11:49 AM
