Yardwork: Terry Francona Needs to Take This Game More Seriously
Baseball, Video August 28th. 2009, 10:15am
White Sox 9, Red Sox 5: Chicago jumped out to an early 9-0 lead, led by Thome, Carlos Quentin and Jayson Nix, who combined for seven RBIs. In the seventh inning, losing 9-2 AT FENWAY PARK, Terry Francona summoned Nick Green from the bench to spare some bullpen arms, thus forfeiting the game and annoying Skip Bayless to no end. Green ended up going two innings and was the only Boston pitcher that didn’t allow a hit. Big Papi has three homers and eight RBIs in his last six games.
Pirates 3, Phillies 2: This is long overdue. The Pirates always seem to be forgotten in this space when they do something good. Well not today! Garrett Jones hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning off the next Doc Halladay, J.A. Happ, to give the Pirates another comeback win over the Phils. Andrew McCutchen also went deep, causing Zane Smith and Johny Smiley to perform embarrassing versions of the moonwalk in their respective living rooms.
Astros 4, Cards 3: For the first time in six starts, the Cardinals did not win a game in which Chris Carpenter pitched. Houston got one in the eighth and one in the ninth on a Jeff Keppinger solo shot to escape St. Louis with the win.
Dodgers 3, Rockies 2: Vicente Padilla, who’s half bullfrog, got the win in his Dodgers debut. Randy Wolf on Wednesday and Padilla yesterday? Those were two games the Rockies should’ve taken at home, especially when up next is Lincecum and Cain in San Francisco this weekend.
Indians 5, Orioles 4: Down by one with two outs in the ninth, Andy Marte implored the city of Baltimore to feast on it.
D-Backs 11, Giants 0: Joe Martinez and his eight earned runs over 4 1/3 innings stood in the way of San Fran gaining some ground on the Rockies. He’s given up 13 runs in his last two starts. This guy lives for pennant races and aviators.
A’s 2, Angels 0: Trevor Cahill — 7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER.
Rangers 7, Yankees 2: Ian Kinsler had two home runs and four RBIs. It feels like he’s constantly in the mix when the Rangers do well, hard to believe he’s batting just .247. A-Rod failed to hit a 15-run homer with two men on in the fourth, prompting a generous chorus of boos from the home crowd. 79 wins and a six-game lead in the division will do that to a frustrated fanbase.
Um, are you serious?
This video best conveys the mood of the TBL comments section yesterday:

Good job, TSH. That’s a funny video. That first white dude was turrible.
I trust you follow Skip Bayless only for the inane ramblings rather than pure insight.

This guy approves of the Braves home run music.

Pretty sure Pedro Guerrero was in that 2nd video.

This is long overdue. The Pirates always seem to be forgotten in this space when they do something good. Well not today!
all of the begging, pleading, cajoling, arm-twisting; all the blood, sweat and tears; it all seems worth it at this point. you’ve made me very happy Hernia.

is anyone in the world surprised that bayless is a red sox fan?
August 28th, 2009 at 10:39 AM

The annual Indians 2nd half surge, save Wedge’s job march is on. My guess is they end the season 5 games back, just south of .500 baseball, and Wedge is back for the beginning of 2010.

The Reds have won four games in a row, pacing the Pirates to the top of the division. Reds could finish with 91 wins still!

Randy Wolf’s ERA since the beginning of July is 2.77. Don’t equate him with the half bullfrog. Randy is not as comfortable on land as in the water.
August 28th, 2009 at 11:10 AM
I know he’s been good, but he’s Randy Wolf, which will be difficult for me to get past.
August 28th, 2009 at 11:16 AM
A reasonable attitude.
You’re still taking shots at the Phillies for not trading for Halladay over Lee after what Lee’s done?
August 28th, 2009 at 11:21 AM
It’s more to the Philly fans for being so protective of Happ being in the deal.
August 28th, 2009 at 11:24 AM
Yes, we dance to apache after the Braves hit home runs. It’s happened like 37 times this season.
August 28th, 2009 at 11:36 AM
Well he is gonna be the rookie of the year so I’d say it was warranted..
