skip-bayless-franconaWhite Sox 9, Red Sox 5: Chicago jumped out to an early 9-0 lead, led by Thome, Carlos Quentin and Jayson Nix, who combined for seven RBIs. In the seventh inning, losing 9-2 AT FENWAY PARK, Terry Francona summoned Nick Green from the bench to spare some bullpen arms, thus forfeiting the game and annoying Skip Bayless to no end. Green ended up going two innings and was the only Boston pitcher that didn’t allow a hit. Big Papi has three homers and eight RBIs in his last six games.

zane-smithPirates 3, Phillies 2: This is long overdue. The Pirates always seem to be forgotten in this space when they do something good. Well not today! Garrett Jones hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning off the next Doc Halladay, J.A. Happ, to give the Pirates another comeback win over the Phils. Andrew McCutchen also went deep, causing Zane Smith and Johny Smiley to perform embarrassing versions of the moonwalk in their respective living rooms.

Astros 4, Cards 3: For the first time in six starts, the Cardinals did not win a game in which Chris Carpenter pitched. Houston got one in the eighth and one in the ninth on a Jeff Keppinger solo shot to escape St. Louis with the win.

vincente-padillaDodgers 3, Rockies 2: Vicente Padilla, who’s half bullfrog, got the win in his Dodgers debut. Randy Wolf on Wednesday and Padilla yesterday? Those were two games the Rockies should’ve taken at home, especially when up next is Lincecum and Cain in San Francisco this weekend.

Indians 5, Orioles 4: Down by one with two outs in the ninth, Andy Marte implored the city of Baltimore to feast on it.

joe-martinezD-Backs 11, Giants 0: Joe Martinez and his eight earned runs over 4 1/3 innings stood in the way of San Fran gaining some ground on the Rockies. He’s given up 13 runs in his last two starts. This guy lives for pennant races and aviators.

A’s 2, Angels 0: Trevor Cahill — 7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER.

ny-post_phixrRangers 7, Yankees 2: Ian Kinsler had two home runs and four RBIs. It feels like he’s constantly in the mix when the Rangers do well, hard to believe he’s batting just .247. A-Rod failed to hit a 15-run homer with two men on in the fourth, prompting a generous chorus of boos from the home crowd. 79 wins and a six-game lead in the division will do that to a frustrated fanbase.

Um, are you serious?
