Ben Roethlisberger’s Accuser: Just Admit Rape, Apologize, and Donate Money to a Charity
Courts, Legal, ESPN, NFL September 9th. 2009, 10:30am
Andrea McNulty’s trying to make a statement that she’s not after Ben Roethlisberger’s money. David Cornwell, the lawyer for the Steelers QB, immediately rejected the offer.
“This case is about Ms. McNulty’s contemporaneous statements and conduct that prove her allegations are false,” Cornwell said. “Against this backdrop, her proposal is bizarre. We previously offered Ms. McNulty a graceful exit. Now, we will continue to press our defenses and claims and pursue our application for sanctions.”
Does the name David Cornwell ring a bell? It should – he was a legal analyst for ESPN. He previously represented Reggie Bush (in 2008; in a bizarre twist that can be found on that link, a story about Bush seemed to be buried by ESPN at the time).

ESPN assured me this morning that Cornwell is NO LONGER with ESPN. Not sure when that relationship dissolved.

September 9th, 2009 at 10:36 AM
well, this is damn weird. I don’t know why Ben would admit guilt though, it’s a civil trial, the worse that can happen is he pays a lot of money and still denies it. It’s not like he can go to jail.

September 9th, 2009 at 10:40 AM
if he admits guilt, he’ll be suspended, for starters. then he has to deal with that his entire career/life.
if he didn’t do it, he should fight it.
September 9th, 2009 at 10:42 AM
That’s what Taguchi was saying. No chance in hell he’d admit guilt, because even if FOUND guilty, the punishment is the same.
September 9th, 2009 at 10:43 AM
This garbage is over, bitch is crazy, glad it wasnt true, glad its mostly taken care of before the season. Trophy defense starts tomorrow night, Titans are getting stomped.
September 9th, 2009 at 10:45 AM
If he did do it he should fight it. Even if he’s found guilty half of America doesn’t trust civil trials because of OJ (and I suppose half really trust them), but everybody knows the burden of proof isn’t as high. Plus rape is such an easy thing to make “messy” in people’s heads that enough people will doubt he did it that he can still be a big thing in Pittsburgh, if not everywhere else. Your right about the suspension, yet another reason to fight it.
September 9th, 2009 at 10:47 AM
Can they bring a criminal trial based on civil trial findings? I would think they couldn’t, but then again I would have thought the same would hold true for the opposite (criminal then civil), and obviously that’s not the case.
September 9th, 2009 at 10:50 AM
Just a ploy to try and deny the money angle. I’ve become so desensitized to rape allegations, it’s really sad. In college, 3 separate rape allegations freshman and sophomore years in my dorm were proven to be false, then the whole lacrosse case showed how badly a false allegation can ruin you…then shit like this occurs, and it’s no wonder people start blaming the victim.
I’m not saying that rape doesn’t happen (it does), I’m just saying that the real victims are not helped by the ever increasing false claims, the mantra, “the girl is always right” that gets repeated ad nauseum, and the automatic guilty until proven innocent stance taken with the accused. Hell, there’s still a sizable portion of both the Duke and the Durham population that believe Mangum was raped, even with all the evidence vindicating the boys.
I’m just…sick of it. Sick of knowing that the rapists are still getting away with it way too often, while countless innocents (the raped and the falsely accused) are destroyed by a system that can’t get it right.
September 9th, 2009 at 10:51 AM
No, this case will never see the criminal court…not even close to enough evidence to survive a summary hearing, if it even was brought by the DA.

rape is probably the most horrible thing you could do but lieing about being raped just to pad your pockets or if you just dont like someone because they didnt like it so they didnt put a ring on it is also on that list.
September 9th, 2009 at 10:56 AM
A serious comment from mrejr? Now I’ve seen everything.
September 9th, 2009 at 10:57 AM
Watch out for selection bias here, You ‘views’ is also likely due to DECREASING victims coming forward, or you selectively paying attention to only the false claims, and what you say will do nothing to alliviate that.
September 9th, 2009 at 10:57 AM
oh well those rich white kids had it coming then. man you’re dumb
September 9th, 2009 at 10:58 AM
Yeah, except none of them could get hired on Wall St even if they tried. Especially since 2 of them won’t have Duke degrees. Plus you know, the lawyer’s fees, the dragging their names through the mud by an overzealous prosecutor, the losing a year of their lives to that shit…I’m not saying they didn’t bring upon themselves, but seriously, to get shit on like that just because a stripper doesn’t want to spend the night in the drunk tank…

Yeah, because even though rape shield laws, increased education, and a much more supportive victim system have put in place, victims are more likely to not come forward nowadays…somehow I doubt that.
Rape is terrible, but girls like this are the reason why it continues to be so hard to successfully prosecute. If she got raped, why didn’t she report it? Why didn’t she go to the local hospital and get a rape exam done? Why did she wait so long to where the only action could be civil? I’m supposed to think it’s because the rapist destroyed her psyche, but let’s be honest, it’s being done for the money. She was hoping for a quick settlement spurred by the bad press such accusations usually cause, period.
September 9th, 2009 at 11:08 AM
PF Changs sucks (along with 99% of chain restaurants), chinese food should be cooked by chinese people, not random cooks hired to shovel out food.
In my opinion, if Ben was guilty he already would have paid her and she would have gone away a long time ago. Being innocent (and awesome), he told this bitch to piss off, she aint getting a dime.
