ozzie-guillen-meltdownMariners 4, White Sox 3, 14 innings: Bobby Jenks blew a save opportunity, his sixth dud of the year, giving up homers to Jose Lopez and Bill Hall to tie the game. When your closer gives us back-to-back shots on the road to tie it up, you might as well just walk off the field. And they eventually did, on an Ichiro single in the 14th inning that scored Ryan Langerhans. It was his 205th hit of the season. Still, despite his maddening obsession for base hits, you’re probably looking for Ichiro to walk in that spot. Ozzie didn’t have a whole lot to say, but there are 15 games left. He’ll lose it — “Go on and ask (the players),” Guillen said. “I don’t have any more quotes. Seriously, what am I going to say?”

Royals 9, Tigers 2: Zack Greinke entered the bottom of the first with runs on the board for the first time all season. That should tell you everything you need to know as to why he has just 14 wins with an ERA of 2.14. He only went five innings though after being taken out for precautionary reasons (he took a liner off his throwing arm in the fourth). As for Detroit, Edwin Jackson continued to struggle. In his last four starts he’s given up 17 runs. The Tigers only runs of the game came off of Bruce Chen. Never a good sign when you’re heading into a crucial three-game set against a division rival.

6301583P ROCKETS V JAZZReds 3, Marlins 2: Florida had an opportunity to gain half a game in the wildcard race, but they blew it. Emergency starter Matt Maloney bravely kept the Marlin bats quiet, giving up two runs over five innings.

Braves 7, Mets 3: Daniel Murphy hit an eighth inning homer, firmly restaking his claim as the next Paul O’Neill.

Phils 4, Nats 2: Cole Hamels went eight innings and Brad Lidge went one inning, but they both gave up the same amount of runs.

Angels 4, Red Sox 3: I was going to mention Ervin Santana and how it seems like he’s pitching well again (he got the win last night), but he’s given up five homers in his last three starts. He’s shaky at best. It’s good to see Billy Wagner back in that ninth inning role, Boston should do that more often.

raysRays 3, Orioles 0: Positive sign for Rays fans. In his third career start, Wade Davis pitched a complete game, four-hit shutout. He also struck out 10. Gonna have to get back to you with a positive sign for the Orioles.

Brewers 7, Cubs 4: Has anyone checked Dave Bush’s freezer yet? Guy is terrifying.

A’s 5, Indians 2: After looking at the box score and seeing “C. Mortensen,” I can’t help but think of football and then think, what’s worse, an Indians-A’s game or a Browns-Raiders game? I’ll take a piledriver.
