The Rams Are the New Lions
1-liner, NFL September 28th. 2009, 3:00pmSt. Louis Rams: With 10 straight losses to end last season, and three straight to open this season, the Rams are the new Lions. This 13-game drought is a franchise record. Compounding matters, their QB, Marc Bulger, has some type of rotator cuff injury, and could be lost for the season. This would leave the Rams with Kyle Boller and someone named Keith Null at QB. The latter was a college QB at West Texas A&M University. When will the Rams win again? If Frank Gore isn’t healthy by the weekend, the Rams could push the 49ers Sunday. Who knows how San Fran will respond after the loss in Minnesota? The Rams also play the Jaguars, Lions, and Texans, none of whom will make the playoffs. If Bulger is done for the season, two wins would be impressive. Start scouting the QBs for next April’s draft. It’ll be Bradford, Clausen or maybe Locker with the Top 5 pick. [P-D]

Are you fucking Clausen on the side or are you his future agent? In what world will Clausen be a top-5 pick?
September 28th, 2009 at 3:02 PM
Anyone see Jerome Bettis has a column at SI.com now?
He even successfully used the word “ingratiate”.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:04 PM
Hopefully they get Locker. I agree with GotG re: Clausen, and Bradford would get killed behind the Rams’ O-line.

taste it. chew on it. swallow it. get better

Why the hell would Clausen come out early when he will have every one of his offensive weapons back next year?
September 28th, 2009 at 3:07 PM
the rams problems are far worse than a qb. they are pre-marshall faulk-warner-holt-vermiel bad. they should draft a badass olineman.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:09 PM
the Rams are the new Lions.
This list doesn’t need to be mutually exclusive, but the Chiefs have played far worse for much longer. Losers of 26 out of the last 28.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:09 PM
Exactly. Unless there’s a can’t-miss Peyton-type QB (and there won’t be), then they gotta what they did in the mid 90s and draft a left tackle.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:10 PM
Clausen is fucking average.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:10 PM
Where’s the post on how bad Tampa Bay is? I think they’re much worse than St. Louis, Detroit, and Cleveland. Bottom 2 in every defensive state and bottom 5 in every offensive one. They were pitiful yesterday.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:11 PM
Apparently because he is a top-5 pick. while I laugh at that notion, if someone tells you that you are going to be taken in the top-5, you bolt like Usain (pun alert, bitches!!).
September 28th, 2009 at 3:11 PM
Maybe he learned a lot from Ryan Leaf?
Null plays golf, right?
September 28th, 2009 at 3:12 PM
esp since they missed this year.
you know when you hear things out of camp that jason smith has been struggling to play with his hand on the ground, that he’s not really all that great.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:12 PM
GoG, nobody thinks he is this year right? I mean sure maybe a top five QB next year, but not this year. I haven’t heard anyone talk about him leaving until these two posts.

STL actually looked better with Boller at QB yesterday
September 28th, 2009 at 3:15 PM
According to the last sentence of this post TBL thinks so.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:15 PM
Where’s the post on how bad Tampa Bay is?
Jeff Garcia must be the Anti-Christ, Bin Laden and Hitler all rolled up into a jelly doughnut for both the Bucs and Raiders to have the QB roster they have and to have both teams get rid of him.

I mean nobody who hasn’t written a post on this site today.

They’ve drafted an offensive lineman twice with their first round pick the last five years. Decision making is the factor. Bulger only has muscle damage, still out this weekend. Doesn’t matter either way.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:17 PM
I have no idea why he is not a starting QB for a West Coast offense right now.
Gotcha.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:18 PM
Maybe he just won’t shut the fuck up about how good Carmella Decesare’s pussy is. I think that would get real old real fast.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:18 PM
has bulger ever been a good quarterback? hes not overrated because hes hidden in st louis is he? and by hidden , i mean st louis isnt really a football mecca
September 28th, 2009 at 3:18 PM
you know how you find out if your scouting department needs to be overhauled? you draft a olineman who doesnt play well from the 3 point stance. how does that happen? is smiths dad a scout for the rams or somethin? do you watch some tape and say “well he is awful in runblocking but kills it when he doesnt have to bend over.” wow seriously.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:19 PM
I have no idea why he is not a starting QB for a West Coast offense right now.
GOTG: Exactly. You put him in a Walsh/Holmgren coaching tree WC offense, he’s been pretty good. Like most QB’s out of his comfort zone, not so much
/some QB’s don’t have any offense they are comfortable with
September 28th, 2009 at 3:19 PM
Go look at Bulger’s 2003-2005 seasons. He had very, very good numbers during those years. For whatever reason he’s not that player anymore.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:20 PM
After the way Locker played Saturday, he’s not ready to be going anywhere after this year.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:20 PM
they key word in that sentence is ‘badass’ unlike the lineman they have drafted. badass like orlando pace when they drafted him.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:21 PM
Only one of him every five years. I’d like them to draft Peyton Manning, but that shit isn’t gonna happen either. I think I’m surly today.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:22 PM
I think Oakland could be decent (7 wins) with Garcia at QB. I covered a HS game Friday night and the team was the Raiders (so unis and all) and their QB wore #2 and couldn’t throw the ball for shit either. I found that funny. You know the media slobs ND’s knob when you can light up a bad Irish team in a bowl game and vault into the #1 pick in the draft.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:27 PM
Stop slurping Garcia. Did anyone see him while with the Lions? The guy was disgraceful.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:28 PM
watch the play were clausen got hurt again, that play made up my mind about him. I have never seen a qb fold into a little ball like that before he gets hit. Clausen deserved to get hurt on that play and showed me he is an average qb who is a pussy.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:29 PM
Stop slurping Garcia. Did anyone see him while with the Lions? The guy was disgraceful.
He was horrible in Cleveland and Detroit, but very good in SF, Tampa, Philly, and sure would have been better than JaMarcus in Oakland
September 28th, 2009 at 3:29 PM
the only person not disgraceful with the lions has been megatron so you cant really blame garcia for being bad with detroit
September 28th, 2009 at 3:30 PM
injury after injury will do that to ya. and a shitty offensive line.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:30 PM
oakland needed to see what jamarcus could do this year. it was a no win situation for them and garcia
September 28th, 2009 at 3:31 PM
if the texans lose to the raider this weekend at home, do you think kubiak is definitely on the hot seat? the thought just crossed my mind
September 28th, 2009 at 3:32 PM
chad pennington expected to miss the rest of the season. torn capsule in his shoulder.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:33 PM
chad henne…lol. dolphins suck.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:39 PM
You’re mad because he beat ankled the “little brother” for four years.
Also, the Rams incredibly suck but they are not the “new Lions.” The Rams have won a championship in the past decade and went to another. They’ve also had MVPs, etc. The Lions haven’t won a playoff game since many of us on here were squeeky-voiced middle schoolers.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:41 PM
little brother still has bragging rights for now. so piss off. and we are keeping them this weekend!

OT:
Not really around today but did anyone see Kurt Warner literally run backwards 28 yards, a la Tecmo Bowl, and get sacked? Nothing beats a “scrambling” Kurt Warner.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:44 PM
that’s all fine and dandy, but how’d he do against ohio state? o-fer you say?
chad henne.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:44 PM
We’ll see about that. It’s a noon game this year, right? Big Ten Network, too???
Yes, Dolphins do suck. That offense is terrible. I hate it. The Wildcat only gets you so far when your QBs can’t (Pennington) or aren’t allowed (Pennington, Henne) to throw over eight yards. Only in that abortion offense could a reciever catch 11 passes one week and none the next. Awful, awful, awful.

This is not your battle.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:46 PM
Al Michaels said someone was trying to find out if that was a record loss on a sack. Did he ever get back to that?
September 28th, 2009 at 3:48 PM
they’re all my battles, lawya.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:48 PM
He should have zig-zagged
September 28th, 2009 at 3:52 PM
yeah, you can thank us for that.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:53 PM
He should have zig-zagged
fuck that game. there was nothing more fustrating than chasing the zig-zag with all 11 players.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:54 PM
their lack of suck is insulting.

Late, but a few lines of thought:
- his stock is soaring per the people that do this for a living. i agree and have said his stars are back, so i think he’ll return.
- Cap Rooney was the one who mentioned Clausen earlier today
- If Weis is canned, is Clausen going to want to stick around for another year under a new regime?
