Yardwork: Rockies Are In, Pirates Cancelled
Baseball, Video October 2nd. 2009, 10:15am
Has anyone seen Tim Kurkjian discussing his choice for the NL Cy Young award? He looks like an emotionally distraught school principal about to announce the name of the prom queen between two candidates of which he’s completely torn. After an intense internal debate, he says his choice is Tim Lincecum.
Rockies 9, Brewers 2: Aaron Cook gave his team eight innings of four-hit, one-run ball, in turn giving the Rockies a shot at the NL West as they head to L.A. for a three-game set. It’s been quite a turnaround for them. Under Jim Tracy, they are 73-40. Great story. Yeah, all that nice stuff. But, after reading the following blurb, it’ll be next to impossible to cheer for the Rockies — “On the other side of the clubhouse, manager Jim Tracy was getting soaked by players serenading him with “Boom Boom Pow” by the Black Eyed Peas.” Worst. Celebration. Ever. Oh, and those are some sweet Oakley Blades, Jason.
Red Sox 3, Indians 0: Jon Lester looked like he’s perfectly ready for game one of the ALDS. He allowed two hits over 6 1/3 while striking out seven. As long as Beckett shows up, and we know he will, the Sox are in good shape to make a run. Yes, another first round sweep of the Angels is on the way. They’ll be dancin’ in Pedroia’s race car bed in no time. Can’t wait.
Twins 8, Tigers 3: Joe Mauer went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, a walk and at least two stolen signs. And it’s Actober, which means Orlando Cabrera is hitting. He had three RBIs.
Cards 13, Reds 0: Chris Carpenter hit a grand slam off Kip Wells and cruised to his 17th win. The Red managed just five hits, one of them coming off the bat of Scott Rolen. Completely forgot about this trade, but it’s assumed he’s having a stellar time in Cincinnati. The Reds, Pirates and about 2,000 fans will bring the season to a close this weekend at Great American Ball Park. In lieu of any walk-up music or traditional baseball songs, the Undertaker’s entrance theme will play on an endless loop during all three games.
Giants 7, D-Backs 3: Tim Lincecum — 7 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 7K. He finishes at 15-7 with an ERA of 2.48 to go along with 225.1 IP and 261 Ks. But unlike Tim Kurkjian, I refuse to give myself a wedgie over this.
Astros 5, Phils 3: Phils former ace Cliff Lee is waiting for a call from the California Penal league.
Pirates cancelled: The good news? Due to the cancellation, it will take a sweep at the hands of the mighty Reds for the Pirates to lose 100 games. Looks like Jeff Samardzja had quite a gem brewing there. That’s a shame.
This song just screams baseball. Well done, Jon Bon:
It’s Friday. Do something:

A rare pic from Taker’s first 9 day title reign. That “Tuesday in Texas” crap was bullhonkey.

Would anyone be opposed to a Kurkjian vs. Rosenthal charity boxing match in a tiny boxing ring with pay per view proceeds going to the V Foundation?

This is as close to an achievement as it gets for this team.
Wear it, wear it, suck it.

Pirates played themselves right out of the second draft pick. Excellent work.
October 2nd, 2009 at 10:46 AM
The difference between the 2nd and 3rd overall pick isn’t going to make or break any franchise.
October 2nd, 2009 at 10:56 AM
Particularly when we have a history of drafting 2nd/3rd round talent at that position so we can save on signing bonuses.

the Reds did sweep the Pirates about 2 weeks ago. I wouldn’t get too excited just yet

fantasy baseball update nobody cares about: I lead, 7-4 in the championship with 3 days to play. i kind of messed up – you’re allowed 6 pickups during the championship (2 weeks), and my opponent picked up and dropped a bunch of pitchers and i didnt.
So he picked up some cheap wins, got lucky … and its close.
Ryan Howard and Ortiz are absolutely killing me … i pray they sit this week. He also has Halladay, who has been insane lately.
care, people!

I was holding out hope that Washington wouldn’t drop the cash on Harper and he would drop, or Crow wouldn’t sign, oh well.
October 2nd, 2009 at 11:02 AM
Since I’m a draft geek, Pirates fans should be all about Anthony Ranaudo.
Darkhorse: Nick Castellanos.
Guy I hope the Twins draft: Kyle Blair
Guy who needs a life: me, apparently.

Would anyone be opposed to a Kurkjian vs. Rosenthal charity boxing match in a tiny boxing ring with pay per view proceeds going to the V Foundation?
Rosenthal would kick his ass. Kurkjian’s nagging voice would paralyze Rosenthal at first, but he’d overcome it and pummel Timmy into a corner while he talks about how crazy baseball is.
October 2nd, 2009 at 11:04 AM
or Crow wouldn’t sign
i wouldn’t want Crow. if he had not signed, that would be twice and I wouldn’t want someone that obviously crazy
October 2nd, 2009 at 11:06 AM
Hey I’d rather draft batshit crazy pitchers instead of guys who end up getting TJ each time.
October 2nd, 2009 at 11:09 AM
Dude, he didn’t get lucky. He out-managed you. YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME.

Crap, we have to see Peavy again tonight. Dude was awesome last week in Chicago. Jackson needs to be on his game.
October 2nd, 2009 at 11:27 AM
Since there is some fantasy baseball talk going on here…
I’m in the finals this week, virtually tied with my opponent.
He has Edwin Jackson going tonight, and I have Jake Peavy. Should be interesting.
and if that’s not reason enough to root for the White Sox tonight, I’m a diehard Twins fan.
Here’s to hoping Peavy throws another gem!
October 2nd, 2009 at 11:40 AM
Fuck Peavy.

Greinke > Peavy
Tigers clinch division Saturday after Greinke beats the Twins.

Chris Carpenter = badass motherfucker.

Does anyone else have a problem with all these baseball teams celebrating just for making the post season? I mean that’s great and all, but I feel like these big celebrations should only happen when you clinch the division.
