giambiHas anyone seen Tim Kurkjian discussing his choice for the NL Cy Young award? He looks like an emotionally distraught school principal about to announce the name of the prom queen between two candidates of which he’s completely torn. After an intense internal debate, he says his choice is Tim Lincecum.

Rockies 9, Brewers 2: Aaron Cook gave his team eight innings of four-hit, one-run ball, in turn giving the Rockies a shot at the NL West as they head to L.A. for a three-game set. It’s been quite a turnaround for them. Under Jim Tracy, they are 73-40. Great story. Yeah, all that nice stuff. But, after reading the following blurb, it’ll be next to impossible to cheer for the Rockies — “On the other side of the clubhouse, manager Jim Tracy was getting soaked by players serenading him with “Boom Boom Pow” by the Black Eyed Peas.” Worst. Celebration. Ever. Oh, and those are some sweet Oakley Blades, Jason.

race-car-bedRed Sox 3, Indians 0: Jon Lester looked like he’s perfectly ready for game one of the ALDS. He allowed two hits over 6 1/3 while striking out seven. As long as Beckett shows up, and we know he will, the Sox are in good shape to make a run. Yes, another first round sweep of the Angels is on the way. They’ll be dancin’ in Pedroia’s race car bed in no time. Can’t wait.

Twins 8, Tigers 3: Joe Mauer went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, a walk and at least two stolen signs. And it’s Actober, which means Orlando Cabrera is hitting. He had three RBIs.

taker-y-paul-bearerCards 13, Reds 0: Chris Carpenter hit a grand slam off Kip Wells and cruised to his 17th win. The Red managed just five hits, one of them coming off the bat of Scott Rolen. Completely forgot about this trade, but it’s assumed he’s having a stellar time in Cincinnati. The Reds, Pirates and about 2,000 fans will bring the season to a close this weekend at Great American Ball Park. In lieu of any walk-up music or traditional baseball songs, the Undertaker’s entrance theme will play on an endless loop during all three games.

Giants 7, D-Backs 3: Tim Lincecum — 7 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 7K. He finishes at 15-7 with an ERA of 2.48 to go along with 225.1 IP and 261 Ks. But unlike Tim Kurkjian, I refuse to give myself a wedgie over this.

Astros 5, Phils 3: Phils former ace Cliff Lee is waiting for a call from the California Penal league.

pirates-canceledPirates cancelled: The good news? Due to the cancellation, it will take a sweep at the hands of the mighty Reds for the Pirates to lose 100 games. Looks like Jeff Samardzja had quite a gem brewing there. That’s a shame.

This song just screams baseball. Well done, Jon Bon:

It’s Friday. Do something:
